Publisher's Summary

Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape - a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.

As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure... especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival.

Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph - and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

Hours on the couch doing nothing but listening!

Gripping story about the rise of Darth Bane. The author allows the reader/listener far more than a mere glimpse of the dark side of the force when telling his origin story of one of the great dark lords of the Sith.
Darth Bane is the one who will eventually instate the Rule of Two, which we know from the movies and which says that there can only be two Siths at one time. Which means that for most of this novel, the Rule of Two isn't there yet, hence there are a multitude of Siths and dark side force wielders!

The story is read brilliantly by Jonathan Davis, and of course enhanced with awesome SW audio effects.

In conclusion, I literally couldn't bring myself to do anything but sit on the couch and listen - which is an absolute first for me for usually I do all kinds of stuff while listening to audio books.

Highly recommend!

Wonderful Book - Great Story Depth

What did you love best about Path of Destruction?

The creation of Bane had a little bit of a weaker childhood story but his character development and transition to the dark side from his age was incredibly well-written.

What about Jonathan Davis’s performance did you like?

Jonathan Davis did a great job with the voicing of the entire cast - even the women. It was easy to differentiate the characters as they were voiced.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Many of the descriptions of bodily injury caused me to cringe - well done!

Drew Karpyshyn's book is a master piece couldn't stop listening to this first part of three.
Jonathan Davis narrated the Hell out of this book. his performance couldn't have been better between each character.
I look forward to the next two books!!! This is well worth it!!!

Great read, great trilogy

Darth Bane trilogy is easily the best Star Wars series. It tells you how Bane sacrifices his own people for the greater good of the Sith. In doing this he begins a journey to what eventually becomes the Empire by implementing the Rule of Two. Hollywood is always slow to realize what fans really want. But I think at some point you will see Banes story on the big screen. The most influential Sith Lord ever!

Just what I wanted

I was in the mood for a book that's fun to listen to, with a rich world to explore.

Something like Harry Potter or LOTR, but not as heavy to listen to. This hit the spot.

Great performance, subtle sound effects and a fun story. Rooting for the villain is so much more fun

A gripping and thrilling story of a mighty Sith Lord's rise!

The story of a man's journey to the Dark Side and path to domination. The story follows a well known Sith Lord, Darth Bane, from his humble beginnings as a miner to his time as a soldier for the Sith army, and eventually a Dark Lord of the Sith! The writer is very detailed and learned in the lore of the Star Wars universe and paints images and depicts scenes that play out in your mind as if you were witnessing them yourself. The amazing narrator takes it a step further by bringing it all to life with his talented voice and emotion that changes to suit many characters, differing them from each other and masterfully fitting them each. The only exception is the female voices, he does his best to imitate a females voice but understandably doesn't perfect it due to his gender of course. This however takes almost nothing away from the experience and is negated by his masterful delivery of all the other characters. I was already familiar with part of this story due to reading the graphic novel "Jedi vs Sith" which mirrors the part of this story it is based on surprisingly well. However this was the first novel I've ever read/listened to all the way though and I found it very hard to stop when I had to. I highly recommend this novel to anyone that has an interest in the Star Wars universe and especially...the Dark Side!

Through passion I gain strength

If you could sum up Path of Destruction in three words, what would they be?

Gripping, educational, passionate.

What other book might you compare Path of Destruction to and why?

I can only really compare it to Darth Plagueis. No other book has inspired so much of the interest in the dark side in comparison. Between these two it will be a thoroughly enjoyable education in the dark side. They both give it so much more depth then 'it is evil, don't', as well as show why the Jedi are held in such contempt. I'm inclined to agree with them...

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a phenomenal listen, he brings such life to each of the characters its like listening to a movie. The only real issue I hear is all the Twi'lek (there are 3!) all sound the same, making me forget who was who from time to time, which is not a good thing as they are all very different.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, once started it was hard to put down. If I didn't have to work I don't think I would have.

Any additional comments?

What are you reading my review for still?!?! Listen to it!! Its amazing!!

A great book

I was looking for a decent series oh Star wars novels and I came across the Darth Bane series. I read some reviews and ask highly recommended the then, so i thought I'd give the first a listen. How very glad I am. I really enjoyed this book, it has me gripped from the very beginning. the story doesn't drag and leave most of the action until the end of the book, but almost throws you into the drop end straight away.
To see the how Bane rose to power and to eventually overthrow the brotherhood of darkness was really fascinating. Bane is evil personified, but you can't help but love his style.
