Experience Star Wars: A New Hope from a whole new point of view.

On May 25, 1977, the world was introduced to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and a galaxy full of possibilities. In honor of the 40th anniversary, more than 40 contributors lend their vision to this retelling of Star Wars. Each of the 40 short stories reimagines a moment from the original film, but through the eyes of a supporting character. • Gary Whitta bridges the gap from Rogue One to A New Hope through the eyes of Captain Antilles.
  • Aunt Beru finds her voice in an intimate character study by Meg Cabot.
  • Nnedi Okorofor brings dignity and depth to a most unlikely character: the monster in the trash compactor.
  • Pablo Hidalgo provides a chilling glimpse inside the mind of Grand Moff Tarkin.
  • Pierce Brown chronicles Biggs Darklighter's final flight during the Rebellion's harrowing attack on the Death Star.
  • Wil Wheaton spins a poignant tale of the rebels left behind on Yavin.

Featured Article: The Definitive Guide to the Canonical Star Wars Timeline

The Star Wars timeline is complicated. With a recently reestablished canon, a tendency toward nonlinear storytelling, and an ongoing creative surge of new films, television series, books, and comics expanding the already massive universe, it can be incredibly difficult for even the most dedicated among us to keep the Star Wars timeline straight. This unofficial timeline explainer offers a brief illumination of each period and the stories set within.

No One has Raved About this yet?

Getting a secondary perspective on a New Hope adds so much incredible depth to the story and deepens the relationship SW fans may have on the film that started it all to an immeasurable degree.

If you are a SW fan and it has changed your life for the better you HAVE to get this audiobook!

And may I mention... it's canon...

A New View of A New Hope

What a fantastic collection of stories. Take a bunch of side characters who were bit parts in the original Star Wars movie and give them a story to tell. You remember those guys in the band playing the Cantina? Yeah, let's tell their story. Remember that little M1C6 droid who Chewbacca scared on the Death Star? Yeah, he has a story. How about the stormtrooper who Obi Wan used his Jedi mind powers to fool into believing that C3PO and R2D2 weren't the droids they were looking for? Fantastic continuation!
There are stories in here from a ton of angles, including Lando, Yoda, Obi Wan, and Mon Mothra, as well as that red R5 unit who blew up at Uncle Owen's farm and the monster in the trash room. These stories fill out a universe so well fleshed out already. Even things like the stormtrooper bopping his head on the door make sense now.
And the voices. Oh, the voices are so great. This book is just about the perfect book. What a great anthology of the Star Wars Universe's lesser known characters. I not only highly recommend this one but I, myself, will be listening to it several more times in the future.I have a new hope that they will do a project like this for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in short order.

These are the Stories You’re Looking For

I’ve laughed, cried, gasped, snickered and smiled through this entire book and still want more. This is an ingenious idea to have the POV of so many characters whose appearances in the movie was minimal but whose contribution to the overall story was critical for the rebellion’s success. I hope they do this with Episodes 5 & 6 as well.

Well worth the time!

I have always been a fan of alternate viewpoints, and this is great. I don't care for all the stories, but that is what is great about an anthology of short stories. Some are great, some not so much, but overall the book is worth it.
Some of the voice actors are also better than others. But the fact that this is a full on production makes it wonderful. I have always wished that audiobooks had background music, and this does and more. Some clips from the original soundtrack, sound effects of laser blasts, howling wind, a hyperdrive, and voice modifiers for stormtroopers and Darth Vader. It is awesome!

wow! so glad i got the audio book.

this book is a fantastic full production that any fan will love. I am a fan, meaning I've seen the movies several times and will watch again. I haven't really explored the larger universe. I was considering the hardcover edition but settled on the audiobook. best credit I've spent in awhile.

these short stories are entertaining and full of sound effects. the voicing is excellent and brings you right into that world. a lot of love went into these.

my only complaint is about the audiobook chapters. they are all about 5 minuets long and are numbered 1-200 something. this makes it impossible to find that one story you'd like to hear again.

Odd story's

My biggest problem with this book is the fact that they keep telling the same story over and over. Some points of views last for hours. Some of these story's are far too long, and are just bad. There are a few that are good, and some that are funny. But overall, I would say most are forgettable.

Very fun

An interesting look into the world of Star Wars outside of main story line; if not necessarily canon, still entertaining. The multitude of stories covered characters only glimpsed in the films but add a depth to the events of the main story line. Furthering the idea that the Force is intertwined and influences more than the reader may have originally thought.

Some of the stories dragged on a little longer and more repetitive than I would have liked and some of the voice acting was rather annoying to the point I almost skipped a story or two but thankfully stopped before I did.

All in all, a fun collection for any Star Wars fan than ever wondered, 'what's that guy's story?'

The Worst Type of Star Wars Prequel

A series of interconnected stories answering questions noone ever asked or wanted to know about Star Wars.

If you are the type of person that needs to know what the bartender in the Anchorhead cantina had for lunch, then this is the book for you. If you're looking for something imaginative that adds to the Star Wars universe, skip this one.

It's more checking off boxes than original and almost wholly devoid of fun.

Entertaining & Thoughtful Stories

Isn't it funny how things come full circle? Many years ago I read. book called Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina. It was a selection of non canonical stories, written mostly by fans. Some of the stories were a little far fetched. R5 could use the Force in one of them. However it was a good read.

Hoping this book would also be a good read, I purchased the hard back. I couldn't get I to it. Life kept getting in the way and it was a big book. So when the opportunity arose I purchased the audio book. A brilliant ideas en if I say so.

This book brings together new characters, new background stories and tells the events surrounding the birth of the rebellion and the events in Episode 4 from another viewpoint. Voice acting is most good to superb, with some actors offering excellent mimicry of many of the Star Wars cast. If I was going to pick a favourite it would be There Is Another, (I think that's the title).

If you are a fan of Star Wars, I would get this. No questions. Who knows how long it will remain as Star Wars canon, or even if it is to start with? Get it while it's still relevant.

Must Listen for Star Wars Fans

This a book of hilarious and tragic backstories to A New Hope. I was blown away by some of the angles of personal stories. The tiniest details in the main film were thoroughly explored. It flashed out the Star Wars Universe and that is always a good thing. Why are you even reading this? Buy the book already!

An enjoyable new take on a well known story

Plenty of drama, some comedy, some tragedy - what more do you need? I skipped a couple of chapters but that's the benefit of these being short stories. Best chapter is probably the trash compactor creature's life story. Defo give this a punt if you like Star Wars.

Even the Garbage Compacter creature has a story.

From the start of Star Wars episode IV, these are the stories of the cameo character's that appear and interact with the main characters. The Red droid at the farm, the Rodian bounty hunter, Grebbo before he gets blasted, Bobba Fett (chapter 15) is just funny as hell, but then I expect he was young, arrogant and cocky then, the Storm Troopers that weren't looking for those droids and many more. Even the creature in the garbage compacter has a story to tell.

I've had a bad feeling about this..and I was right

It started really well. Just as I'd hoped... But one or three stories just dragged themselves along to the point of just skipping them.
Now, it did eventually come back to enjoyable.
And a guest appearance by the emperor was strangely stunning but I don't think I'll be getting the next one.

Absolute gem for real SW fans!

The destruction of Alderaan just became more emotional to me, and the original dialogue of the film now has more depth to it.

If, like me, you gradually wore down your original Star Wars (Ep4) VHS from viewing and hence can quote the film backwards, this is certainly for you. You will appreciate the humour and detailed extrapolations from these beloved scenes.

I also recommend for younger and newer star wars fans. The storys stand although I'd say original fans will appreciate the subtlety more.

Balance of the force??

Balanced between some great little short stories, well written with nods to the source material.
Along with some bizarre and weird rambles and one or two absolutely awful ones which left my head spinning and me wanting my time back.

Everyone has different tastes but some of these are not for me

May the Force be with you!

An interesting take on the New Hope's story line from all the bit-part characters you recognise from the movie, even if some of them are on screen for only a minute or 2. I was surprised that Hammerhead didn't get his own story, he did get a figurine in the 70's, after all. An entertaining read for any Star Wars fan.
