Publisher's Summary

Audiobook four of the best-selling Eden's Gate series!

Edgewood is under attack, and the threat of war lingers across the Serpent Sea. A thief is becoming a thorn in Gunnar's side, and a tempting elf is getting a little feisty.

In order to protect their village, the members of Unity will need to work together to level up and find better gear. They'll need to lay the foundation of a castle that can serve as a fortification from intruders.

But what if there's a better way?

When Gunnar learns the king of Highcastle will grant an audience to anyone who wins an arena championship, he decides to enter the competition as a gladiator. If he can earn a meeting with the ailing king and persuade him to stop Dryden before his dragon flies, he can save Edgewood and countless lives. He'll also get his name posted in every arena, which could lead Rachel one step closer to finding him.

The arena is a spectacle where people gather to watch fighters put their skills to the test, earn fame, and take home gold. Does Gunnar have what it takes to become a champion, or has he bitten off more than he can chew?

From hero to zero 101

I don't think I ever saw a worst ending, I'm baffled. Book suicide. After rewriting this review several times I conclude that my vocabulary does not have the words to express my overwhelming disappointment towards the ending of this book.

Why is the MC stupid?

This has been my over riding question during this series. He never seems to grasp blatantly obvious things. Constantly judges other people without seeming to realize he did similar things. His actions are justified but no one else’s actions are. Please please make him less stupid and these books will be better for it.

too much unnecessary detail.

It is not necessary to constantly cover level information and it gets really irritating and becomes grating. otherwise great storyline.

bridge story

This story was not as good as the previous ones but i feel that that was mostly because it was mostly tiding up loose ends and setting up for the next part of the story. The beginning and end are really good but the middle would best be described as filler. There are a couple obvious audio patches but they arn't disruptive. Overall a good book that leaves me excited for the next one.

More or less great

The only issue I had with the story was the ending. Seemed a bit rushed, but other than that it was great.

Good, but not great.

I like the series as a whole, and the narrator does a decent job, but this book was kind of...meh. No real character development, several minor plot points, but nothern that really pushed the story forward. this book felt a bit like a filler episode. It's the kind of book you could skip in a series without really missing any main plot points at all, which makes it a bit of a disappointment.

I'll still get the next book, as I hope to see the plot actually move forward and see how things play out. I just wish this book had done that as well.

Good enough but needs a better editor

I enjoy the world that was created and the story, but I felt this book didn't move the story enough until the last chapter. A few notes I hope the author reads... the repeated use of "snaps his/her lips" is very grating. Maybe in text it isn't as glaring, but it was a particular word whisker that detracted from my enjoyment of listening. I can't figure out how you snap your lips. Maybe snap your mouth shut or something?

I look forward to the next book, but I really hope for more movement of the story.

Overall pretty good, but ends on an off note

Most of the book was pretty well done. Great performance, fairly engaging story. The last chapter really fell flat though. it felt rushed and compressed, like it ran ahead without me. This made me lose a great deal of interest. I'll still listen to the next one, but I'm glad it's not out yet, as I don't really feel like doing so right now.
