NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

A scifi classic

The book is great. The narration is great except the changing voice actors is very distracting.

Amazing! with a caveat

this book was phenomenal, and the reader and cast were amazing- in moments. the switch between cast and single reader was a bit annoying, as it seemed to happen almost randomly and without a point. maybe it was meant to be a switch between dialogue and inner monologue but it felt like there were points where that wasn't the case. I really liked it though

Raced to finish

The writing truly pulls you in and the narration and voice acting help to add to the drama of the story. Book 3 was definitely a hard left turn down doom and gloom alley but overall LOVED the book, characters, themes and even the sounds of sand blowing in the wind between chapters.

All time classic

The greatness of science fiction is the ability of the author to put you in a foreign place, make you believe you are there, then place you with people and situations that make you think and develop your own moral and ethical ground. That is the purpose and greatness of world building, and I don't think I've ever read a better world builder than Frank Herbert. I have loved Dune since high school, and love it more now than ever. And the performance is talented, with great voices brought in for certain characters to complement the great performance of the main narrator. I loved this audio book.

Amazing!

Written in 1965, only 8 years after the most advanced spacecraft in human history was Sputnik 1, a basketball with 4 six foot long antennas!

What an imagination Herbert had! His story picks you up and carries you. He weaves future technology with ancient king-based politics, resource-based geopolitics and fanatical religion into a gripping story that grabs you from every direction.

"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer...”

Thirty years ago it was one of the best books I ever read. It still is.

The acting was slightly disjointed.
Sometimes the baron Harkonen was read by a deep, powerful voice that projected his personality perfectly. Other times, all of the characters were played by the narrator. Did they run short of money for the production?

Did they split the difference by having the narrator read half the parts and other payed actors read the other half?
Weird. Not weird enough to spoil this amazing book. Still worth buying!
(But a stupid cheapness for the production).

Simon Vance is my favorite

I really loved this reading, except there were times when others were brought in to play the parts of others. It was handled disjointedly in my opinion and I wish they would have skipped it or went all the way with it, with Vance being the narrator.

Didn’t like how characters voices changed

The book was incredible. I loved the music in the audio book. I enjoyed the different voices but found it deeply frustrating that a particular characters voice kept changing. It made it strange and hard to follow.
