Publisher's Summary

Deathmatch is now a number-one best seller in postapocalyptic science fiction, number one in dystopian science fiction, number one in military science fiction, and number one in war fiction.

Humanity's most fearsome enemy is no longer death.

Alpha and Marsoc meet their match

Lurking in the bush is the dark shadow cast by the operators - a terrifying force every bit their equal in skill, ferocity, and sheer resolve...but utterly unconstrained by humanity, compassion, or brotherhood. Now, to complete their mission and save the world, the operators will have to pay with their lives, or their souls, or possibly both.

One troop descends into hell

Rolling the dice on a last-ditch plan to save London by retrieving the Kazakh's zombie-annihilating virus, Jameson leads his last best men into the dragon's den - an underground bunker home to the savage and hyperskilled Spetsnaz Alfa group. Getting out alive is a million-to-one shot - and then their real problems begin.

The Kennedy is burning

The world's deadliest maritime commando force were made homeless when their battlecruiser went to the bottom of the Atlantic. Now they're looking for payback - and a replacement nuclear-powered warship. But not only is the whole JFK in play - so is Dr. Park, his vaccine design, and thus the fate of the entire world.

    "What Just Happened"

The worst book of this series. It should be included in a package b/c it's not worth the credit by itself. It didn't draw me in like the others. I didn't feel invested in any of the story lines. Pretty disappointing

"Just Simply The Best ZA Series out there"
Where does Deathmatch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Arisen series is crazy good. Non-stop action with great characters and plot twists.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Handen, Homer, Hano Juice, Ally, Fick, Pred, you can't just pick one.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

R C Bray is perfect for this part. He might be right up there with Scott Brick

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Too many oh man moments to list.

"Need anti- depressant meds after this series"
What did you like best about Deathmatch? What did you like least?

Does anything ever go right in this series? Honestly, I think the only reason I keep listening is hoping something will be a victory. Every situation is ok , ok ,ok, this is going to work out,,,,,,,oh wait, the unexpected happened and things go wrong. How many more books can there be( can I stand) in this series?

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

    Performance is fine.

Do you think Deathmatch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The series needs to be brought to a close. One way or another, enough is enough.

    "Another Enjoyable Half-book"

This is a great series, wonderful writing, mostly authentic and believable (after you accept the whole "zombie apocalypse, end of the world" premise), gripping and action packed. This book is another great listen, continuing the epic tale of tier one combat and survival in Russia and the Horn of Africa, while setting aside (I hope temporarily) the plight of the survivors in Britain. Narration by R.C. Bray is superb, like every one of his readings. R.C is first rate, one of my favorite narrators. I've made the decision to purchase books just because he's the narrator, and he never disappoints. This one is no exception to that rule. He makes the story and the characters come alive.

But this book, like most of the others in the Arisen series (and a rapidly growing number of other book series') is really just half a book. I give it 3 stars overall for just ending in the middle of a cluster of parallel and evolving action sequences, leaving the listener hanging. Again. There are four or more groups of operators in various parts of the world up to their eyeballs battling zombies, the Russians or both at the same time and Fuchs (or his editors) decide to just end the book mid-battle. "Buy book 12 to find out who wins, who dies and whether or not the JFK survives another assault!" Other reviewers have pointed out this apparent editorial trend but I have pretty much had it with books/series that just arbitrarily stop after so many pages or a certain number of hours (usually a totally insufficient 8-9 hours), probably to maximize profits. Certainly, the last two books could have been combined into one and would have been better for it. Of course, I understand authors wanting to make a buck. But I truly appreciate authors like S.M. Sterling and Jonathan Maberry who can, and are willing, to write a comprehensive ten or twelve book series and make each book a fully fleshed out and action packed 15 or 20 hours of listening that is complete on its own.

I will end up spending the credit on Book 12 and any others in the series because, I'm already invested in this otherwise excellent story and because I enjoy even half-a-book when read by R.C. Bray. Fuchs does a good job with this one, a continuation of a really interesting story with good action over two continents. But in the future I won't start a series made up of a bunch of incomplete books that just...end for no literary reason.

    "Sweating from reading this!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Deathmatch to be better than the print version?

    Next question.

What other book might you compare Deathmatch to and why?

    Nothing compares to it!

    Which scene was your favorite?

    River firefight

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could of, I would of.

    Any additional comments?

Been hard to top the other books in this series, but my god, this one did it.
Cannot believe how exciting this has been to listen to. Literally cheering as Henno and the team fight through the river fight, the Royal Marines assault the Spetsnatz layer in Moscow and the abuse the JFK keeps taking.
Have not been this excited and worked up over another book as this and I have listened to many great ZA books over the last few years.
    This one was truly epic!!!
RC Bray was fantastic as always and I do not think another narrator could even come close to what he brought to this book. Just awesome!

    "Frustrating"
What would have made Deathmatch better?

    Less stupidity.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Frustration, exhaustion.

    Any additional comments?

Anything, and everything, that can go wrong, does go wrong. Like the other books, this book continues the non stop action caused by mistakes, ignorance and stupidity. The Russians are the best of the best of the best of the best and despite the 'allies' having air superiority with the best fighter ever, they just can't seem to do anything right.

You would think that after 2 years in the ZA and after having fought the Russians and knowing they are out there.. that someone, anyone, would do something to counter them. Instead, the JFK holds positions in visible range of the shore instead moving 20 miles or more off shore. The fighters are easy prey. Everyone is asleep.

The continued issue I have with this series is that it is exhausting to listen too.

    "Wtf is up with Spetsnaz"
What made the experience of listening to Deathmatch the most enjoyable?

    Lots of nice characters

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The Speznas was waaaay too lucky and skilled during most of the story, it felt so unrealistic when they started shooting down everything the kennedy sent at them it started feeling like a childs/fanboys plot.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances? How does this one compare?

RC is the man, and allways will be.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Spetssnaz the invincible force of insane unstoppable ferocity of godlike perfection.

    "Another Cracker..."

Yet again, another great addition to the series by Mr Fuchs. The background story is well known by book 11, this leads to an adventure with a lot more action. Ok, towards the end, it was, maybe, a little too full on, but it was satisfying and did keep you gripped. Definitely looking forward to 12, really hope it's not as big a gap as there was between 10 and 11.

Of course, a special mention to Mr R.C Bray, this guy just gets better and better. He brings these books to life in a way that, I don't believe, any other performer could. HE ROCKS!!!!

Brilliant story, amazing attention to detail. Still not sure if I liked hearing the end at the start. But exciting. The tension is brilliant.

Another outstanding performance by R. C. Bray. His Russian accents are spot on.
