Publisher's Summary

Bailey Wingate's scheming adult stepchildren are surprised when their father's will leaves Bailey in control of their fortune, and war ensues. A year later, while flying from Seattle to Denver in a small plane, Bailey nearly dies herself when the engine sputters - and then fails.

Cam Justice, her sexy Texan pilot, manages to crash-land the aircraft. Stranded in the wilderness, and struggling to douse her feelings for the ruggedly handsome man by her side, Bailey begins to wonder whether this was a mere accident.

Sure enough, upon her return to civilization, Bailey's suspicions mount: Who tampered with their plane? Who's trying to reunite Bailey and her husband in the afterlife?

Trusting her life - and heart - to Cam, Bailey must outwit a killer who will stop at nothing to finish the job.

Great survival romance

When I was (much) younger, I did some backpacking in some very remote areas. So I enjoyed this story a lot. The whole "strangers struggling to survive under terrible conditions and falling in love" plot was great fun. And I feel like she did a good job of it. I really enjoyed seeing the heroine figuring out how to make do with what was on hand in order to survive. And I enjoyed the way the two of them worked together, and I liked the way they verbally sparred with one another.

In short, I liked this book. A lot. Try it. I don't think you'll regret it.

More a survival story than a romance.

What did you love best about Up Close and Dangerous?

The characterization was good. Like many of Linda Howard's novels, it gives you a detailed look at the main characters thought process.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There are really only two characters through most of the book, Cam and Bailey. I liked them both. They came across as very real. Linda Howard has a knack for putting normal people into unusual situations and letting us watch the outcome.

Have you listened to any of Natalie Ross’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to many of her performances and loved them all. I find she has a nice range and I never catch myself cringing at her male/female voices as sometimes happens with other narrators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found i had a hard time putting this down. Or turning it off as the case may be. I wanted the drive to last longer so I wouldn't have to pause the book.

Any additional comments?

The romance itself felt rushed. There was a nice twist at the end.

Interesting Story -- Great Narrator!

Up Close and Dangerous is not a predictable story, but a well written story of survival, romance and mystery.

Although fiction, it's very believable, as a person never knows what they are capable of until circumstances necessitate a need for strength beyond what's normal, as in this story.

Natalie Ross gave a wonderful performance.

Natalie Ross doesn't sound like herself

Would you consider the audio edition of Up Close and Dangerous to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

Surprise ending

What didn’t you like about Natalie Ross’s performance?

Very disappointed in her voice for males in this book. Normally she is my #1 narrator for American accent books because she does so well with different genders and ages. But her male voices for this book were poor.

Nice story. Good characters.

Most of the book took place on the mountain where Bailey and Cam had to survive cold, hunger, thirst and injuries. This was more of a survival story than a suspense story. I loved Bailey's common sense strength and how she saved Cam's life. I was drawn to both characters while watching their decisions and actions during their mountain experience. There was a mystery as to who sabotaged the plane. The ending was good. The side story about Seth was interesting. There is some romance but not a lot.

STORY BRIEF:
Cam is pilot of a charter plane flying Bailey. She is the widow of a wealthy man. They didn't like each other before this trip. The plane crashes on a mountain and they start seeing the true character and personality within each other and eventually fall in love.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Natalie Ross was excellent.

I love this book and audible books too!

Loved it from begining to end. I read this book about 5 years ago before I got into audiobooks. But, listening to it, was so much more intense than reading it.

I could feel my brain cells dying!

Really struggled to finish this. I've enjoyed a few books by this author and it's rare that I wind up disliking her main character by the middle of the book.
