Publisher's Summary

Tru Blue is a sexy, dark, standalone novel written in the same loving, raw, and emotional voice romance listeners have come to love, and the deeply emotional literary prose women's fiction listeners have come to expect, from New York Times & USA Today best-selling, award-winning author Melissa Foster.

He wore the skin of a killer, and bore the heart of a lover.

There's nothing Truman Gritt won't do to protect his family - including spending years in jail for a crime he didn't commit. When he's finally released, the life he knew is turned upside down by his mother's overdose, and Truman steps in to raise the children she's left behind. Truman's hard, he's secretive, and he's trying to save a brother who's even more broken than he is. He's never needed help in his life, and when beautiful Gemma Wright tries to step in, he's less than accepting. But Gemma has a way of slithering into people's lives and eventually she pierces through his ironclad heart. When Truman's dark past collides with his future, his loyalties will be tested, and he'll be faced with his toughest decision yet.

Just not for me...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I am usually pretty easy as a critic, and unfortunately (in this case), I am one to always finish a book, but this book just seemed to drag on, and on, and on, and on... The 2 main characters just seemed to have no flaws, and there wasn't really any ups and downs in the story. I honestly, just wanted more from the story.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Just as expected, very predictable ending. And I am not saying that as a bad thing. I don't really mind a predictable ending when it comes to a romance novel. I want a happy ending

What aspect of Paul Woodson’s performance would you have changed?

His performance wasn't all that bad, I just didn't think that his voice fit the story. He actually has a great voice, and I would listen to another story with him as narrator. When you have a story about an ex-con that hangs out with a bunch of bikers, I expect something deeper, more gravely.

Any additional comments?

To me, this story almost felt like something you would read as fanfiction. Writing was good, but the story just seemed so... picturesque at times. I'm not sure if it was the narrator and the fact that I didn't think his voice fit with the story, or the lovey dove unrealistic story line, but this book just didn't do it for me. This was my 1st book by this author, and there are more by her that I would like to read/listen to, hopefully, I will enjoy them more.

Stand Out...

What stood out for me in this book was how Truman stood in the gap for his siblings even though he didn't have to. I love how a young single guy put his life on hold to do this. He also found a gem in Gemma (no pun intended). It was also gratifying to listen as well read this moving story. It really made it more enjoyable.

Unexpectedly Sweet and Tru Love Story

This was nothing that I expected and everything that I loved... a mix of tender family interactions and sexy new relationship moments. The hero was a tru hero in every sense of the word, and despite the odds stacked against him, the HEA felt right, unrushed and deserving. A beautiful and sweet love story.

Big Brother Hotness

What made the experience of listening to Tru Blue the most enjoyable?

Being able to connect with book

Would you be willing to try another book from Melissa Foster? Why or why not?

This isn't my first Melissa Foster book, although I do have to say this one was hot! Love that you can picture big brother standing in the bathroom with poop running down his arm or standing in aisle at Walmart...This book was a great quick read, but it was missing something!

What about Paul Woodson’s performance did you like?

He knew the book! He didn't hesitate on putting emotions or twist in narriation when book called for it!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Powerful Princess vs Big Brother Hotness

JUST OK 😑

I love romantic books, but this one was just too sappy for my taste buds. I Liked the narrator he did an excellent job with this book. I hope that this short review is helpful to someone.
