Publisher's summary

At the age of nine, Josephina Cochrane is mockingly dubbed the "Duchess" by her half-cousin, Marcus Wyndham. Little does Marcus suspect that the Duchess will one day reign sovereign over his own future. For the Earl of Chase, the Duchess's father and Marcus' uncle, leaves a double-edged inheritance, a legacy that will bind their fates.

When the Earl of Chase dies without a son, Marcus stands to inherit his fortune and title. But the old earl, bitter that Marcus escaped the tragedy that claimed the lives of his two sons, has laced his legacy with vengeful stipulations.

But there is another Wyndham legacy, one beyond the Earl of Chase's rank and holdings - a treasure from long ago that's shrouded in legend. Before the rival legacies can be settled, the Duchess and Marcus must solve two mysteries - one from the past and one that shadows the present.

Critic reviews

"Unexpected plot twists, witty dialogue and an engaging cast of secondary characters contribute to the charm of [this] Regency romance." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A terrific addition is the voice of Maggie McClellan. Clarity, even pacing, consistent vocal quality, and successful accents, American and British, make The Wyndham Legacy a great listening adventure." ( AudioFile)

Very entertaining.

Similar to some of her other story lines. However, it has a bit of a punch that I liked better than some of her other historical romances. I guess it is the 'winning out' over adversary.

Again, if you like historical romances, you will enjoy this one; treasure hunting and all.

Narrator ruined it for me

I rarely leave bad reviews, and I definitely do not like to leave reviews for narrators because listening to narrating is so subjective and personal. I even more rarely return a book, However after 3 1/2 hours of this narrator, I just can’t take it anymore and I am returning the book. I’m thinking that this book was probably recorded a long time ago before narrators really started becoming a thing? She tries too hard and the thing is driving me crazy is she’ll say something and she’ll just speed through the end of the sentence. Ugh. Im really disappointed too because CC was always one of my fav orite authors. This was my first audiobook attempt. I will try another, but never ever again with this narrator.

Starts Legacy Trilogy, a fun story and performance

A twist on the bastard daughter who learns to be self possessed and creative. She sees her hero for his flaws. A nicely drawn set of characters and with an audio performance that adds the entertainment of the story line. I truly enjoyed this reader's ability.

Lovely, entertaining and a good read

This was a lovely tale of an independant woman, with a free spirit and loving heart. It is entertaining, has an excellent commentary on the times via verse. I really enjoyed it, the leading man was frustratingly loveable and the supporting characters entertaining and diverting. Well written and spoken.

So much potential

The story started promising. But god it just draaaaaaaggged on insufferably!! I eventually stopped at chapter 27.
And the narrator was god-awful!! It’s always hard when voice talent has to do both a British and American accent. Well congratulations. She did both of them poorly. The British accent was filled with American dialect and the American southern drawl seemed out of place for Baltimore. Can’t believe I kept listening for as long as I did!

Awful......

The only point of reading or listening to romances is escapism into fantasy world and obviously there are “ different strokes for different folks”, I personally like my hero to be in love and besotted with the heroine, than I can forgive him many evil things he has to do to win his love (“ Devils Embrace”)
in this case Marcus hates Duchess venomously, humiliates and degrades her at every opportunity he gets; their first night together is especially appalling.... She is, on the other hand, acts like a doormat and endures it for a long time for some unknown reason. This whole mess is not very romantic....

Couldn’t Stomach it!

I stopped listening less than half way through the story. The hero angered me. His verbal abuse and condescension was too much. Allowing his sex and privilege to deem his behavior as acceptable. I couldn’t stomach his behavior or the heroine to allow herself to remain in his abusive situation. Not for me!

Story missed connections & too exhausting details about sex which seemed to be reason for the book
