Dear Listener: Impulse is an exciting mystery of suspense that first came out in 1990. I’ve done a bit of rewriting and updated it.

Now, I want you to get ready. Rafaella Holland, a Pulitzer Prize winner, now a journalist for the Boston Tribune, discovers from her comatose mother’s journals that her "real" father is Dominick Giovanni, a wealthy, very powerful arms dealer who lives and runs his operations from his own private island compound in the Caribbean. She wants revenge for what he did to her mother. She wants to gather enough proof to send him to prison for the rest of his miserable life.

Marcus Devlin manages the resort on Giovanni’s Island, a private playground for the wealthy and powerful. He’s very good at what he does, but Rafaella wonders if he’s really what he seems. Then someone tries to kill Dominick Giovanni. Who? Then someone tries to kill Rafaella and Marcus. Why?

As Rafaella and Marcus grow closer, events threaten to spin out of control when their small world on Giovanni’s Island starts to implode.

Loved the story and the slim connection to Coulter,s FBI series. Great narration which always adds to the enjoyment!

it started out a great thiller

the book started out like it was going to be a great thriller with twists & turns but it turned out from thriller to a romance novel. I really didn't know what the miscarriage had to do with anything either. the same thing happened in the 1st book I read with Savage in it. If I wanted a romance novel I would have purchased one!

Read this one, DO NOT LISTEN!!

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Renee Raudman and Paul Costanzo ?

The story wasn't so bad but the narration was absolutely awful. Please understand these narrators voices are great, BUT not at all suited for this genre of book. It was so difficult to get past that I could barely listen to it. The so called hunk of the story sounds like a history professor giving a not so riveting lecture. The main character sounds like a Great Aunt Mildred. They did well but their voices are not the right fit for this story. I recommend you read this one and save an audible credit for something better.

What other book might you compare Impulse to and why?

Catherine Coulture always has enjoyable books but this one was not one to listen to.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrators voices could have been younger and more vibrant, excited when the story called for it.

Was Impulse worth the listening time?

No, would have returned it if it was possible to do so.

too much graphic sex your story didn’t need it!

I like the story but was continuesly fast forwarding through the sex. it wasn't necessary!

I highly recommend this thriller

Mesmerizing plot with many unexpected twists and turns. The narrators were excellent. I really enjoyed the experience

Excelllent Adventure in Listening

For me this was an excellent,unexpected, suspense filled audio book experience. The characters were well defined, the narrators amazing. No cardboard cut out characters here.
The male villians in this are truly creepy. Not the usual "brutal, obvious villians you may hear in other books but these are the kinds of rich, mobster types that I sincerely hope I never meet. They have no remorse and totally justify how they treat women. (Nope it may not be what you think). This had everything, a strong female lead (like this is a movie or a play, sounded like it to me) good romance, sexy scenes, action and adventure.

If you enjoy staying on the edge of your seat....listen to this one.

Too much gratuitous sex which didn't add to plot

My only complaint. The sex scenes was repetitive and totally not needed. Ms coulter is great novelist and her FBI series were clean and exciting. But her early books too much sexual fillers. Glad she got away from that formula with her much later books Cause she is on level with john Grisham and jack Higgins and Daniel Silvia and you don't get any better than that Had to ding her for that reason alone.

Liked the story, the wide diversity in the characters, and the way the story came to its climax.

The "who-dunit" part was great. Kept me guessing to the very end.

Maybe Renee Raudman but not Paul Costanzo.

Not really.

Unfortunate

Disappointed in explicit sexually abuse not matter that it was villanized. Found it very offensive!
