Publisher's Summary

An American heiress nobody wants; a duke every woman desires; and a murder no one expects.

As a young duke, all Nathaniel wants is to be left alone. So when he meets Charlotte, an outspoken American heiress, he is suspicious of her indifference. Too many women have sought - and failed - to catch him.

However, Charlotte is unimpressed by his title. She has no interest in English dukes. All she wants is to leave dreary England and travel to the sunny sands of Egypt to see the grand pyramids.

Unfortunately, a debutante seeking to entrap Nathaniel gets murdered, and his reputation as a confirmed misogynist makes him a suspect. On impulse, Charlotte comes to his aid, unaware that her actions place her in danger, too.

Neither Charlotte nor the duke know that a highwayman interested in rich heiresses is following Charlotte, and that another debutante lies dead in Nathaniel's carriage. And unfortunately, the evidence soon complicates Nathaniel's efforts to prove his innocence and convince Charlotte that he is worthy of her love.

Some nights just don't go as planned.

    "Cute, but...."

Grammatical errors or not, this was a cute book!!! But my heavens how can one woman be SO stupid when she's (supposedly) so smart?! Silliness!

Will I listen again, probably not.
    The story was good.
    The narrator was good.
    The problems were tolerable.
    But Charlotte was SO irritating!

    Clean.

"You can't be intelligent and lack common sense!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I knew, "who done it" within the first hour of listening. The heroine was supposed to be sooooo intelligent but constantly misjudged every single character in the book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Amy Corwin again?

Only if I was extremely bored and probably not even then.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I don't think there was one. The gambling problem of the guardians was never resolved, the statement written by the second victim and handed over to the police never came full circle and the status sought by the gentry women was condemned while the status sought by Rose (Red's wanna be girlfriend) was rewarded! The Rose character was less concerned about Red's character and wrong-doing and more concerned about what he could give her.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I think the problem with this book is that the author gave Charlotte academic curiosity but gave her no common sense.

    Any additional comments?

The narrator did a good job with the English voices but the American accent really needed work.

    "A Madcap Romance"

An enjoyable read with quite a bit of madcap happenings but ultimately the mysteries are solved, the murderer gets justice and the H/h get their HEA.

I wasn't thrilled with the narration for Charlotte as she was supposed to be a southern girl with a drawl. That did not come across at all.

    *A Clean Read

"Regency romance with a murder mystery thrown in."

A little long and a little corney at times. The murders kept the plot going.
