Publisher's summary

As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark.

Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way. But they are both unprepared for the dizzying passion sparked by their partnership. Amanda Quick’s light, breezy style captures the sophisticated nuances of the 19th century British social world that surrounds these two unconventional allies. Filled with spirited dialogue delivered by the incomparable talent of narrator Barbara Rosenblat, Mischief is a thoroughly delightful adventure.

One of my favorites

I enjoyed this book of the author's one word title romances better than any of the others. The female protagonist is neither whiny nor stridently bossy. Nor is she stupid. The story also seems to hang together better, more plot driven than characters leaping this way and that to fit a trope.

And, of course, I love Barbara Rosenblat as a narrator. Characters are given distinct voices; she can nuance humor (which seems to be a rare talent in voice people), and her characters sound like people instead of 'characters'. My one, very small, gripe is that she couldn't decide how the main character's name should be pronounced so it came out differently in different parts of the book. At first I thought it might be the characters whose accents, but alas, no.

If you enjoy this sort of mind candy, something that doesn't require your full attention and characters who are probably not going to make you either thump your head against a wall or want to shake them for their stupidity/rudeness/inconsistency, then I suggest this book.

I've listened to it twice, during long car trips, and will probably leave it on my iPod for another one in a year or so.

This is a comedy not a historical Romance

The narration doesn't help and already bad story. It is a poorly done comic interpretation of historic romance. I really couldn't even bring myself to laugh. I only cringed. I confess that I listen to almost the whole thing trying to find some redeeming factor. I never found it. Don't waste your credits.

Fun

Pretty silly, but lots of fun. There's a mystery and characters that the narrator has fun giving life to. She's not at the top of her form, but still perfect for this book. I like humorous light romances with a minimum of angst and no explicit sex. There is some bodice ripping but it doesn't take over the book.

Stellar Performance

This is one of Amanda Quick's best and handled superbly by Barbara Rosenblat. Charming, humorous and entirely enhanced by the narration.

If you're a fan of Regency romance, this is decidedly worth a listen.

Adding a bit of fun

This story is definitely a favorite of mine (as are most of Amanda Quick's books)! Imogen is a feisty and intelligent woman who won't take no for an answer and is determined to find a criminal who has been harassing her. Enter the Earl of Colchester and not only does chaos ensue but laughter, danger, and a bit of love.
Barbara Rosenblat is still such an amazing narrator! She gives the characters depth and fun so you are even more sucked into the story!

The story was good, the narration was terrible.

Amanda Quick delivers another entertaining story full of humor, romance, and suspense. The narration took away from this story, the worst I have heard in any audible book.

Typical Amanda Quick book.

I have enjoyed Amanda Quick for some time now. I usually like her older work better and this book is one of her better attempts. If you have ever read Amanda Quick you know most of her books are similar to each other. This book has quirky characters, romance, some mystery, and of course a scandal. This is one of those books you read when you don't want anything too serious. Narrator isn't my favorite but she is better than a lot who try for Regency English accent.

Couldn't finish, misses every mark

I've got to return this if they'll allow, it's a waste of a credit, or as the female protagonist loves to quip ad infinitum, "rubbish!"
I usually like Krentz/Castle/Quick historical, they can be good audio pastime, but a protagonist has to have some good character interlaced with some flaws for us to cheer for her on the way to HEA; I can't find a single redeeming thing about the girl in this story because there is no girl, only a puppet stuffed with contradictions. Supposedly highly educated and literary, yet actually just shallow and obnoxiously over-assuming henwit whom everyone regards with fond exasperation but no reality checking, a bluestocking who can't plot herself through a doorway yet hellbent on ruinous revenge of a powerful man, all the while utterly innocent, bunny-soft and oxheaded, blundering, naive, hyper, scatterbrained and ever so generous with the dude's money despite having her own. Allegedly a brilliant translator of an antique language and culture, yet less-than-zero social/situational awareness and takes everything said by everyone at 100% face value only. Trust me, you can't be a translator and not understand conversational subtlety. The dialogue with the guy, probably meant to be played for comedy, actually comes off much more like verbal abuse that he for some reason finds adorable; she's not a bull in a china shop, she's Godzilla in Tokyo, except that she's sweet and sexy, except painfully virginal. The sex scenes were cringey; she creates endless trouble for everyone around her and the man supposedly is infatuated and deeply in love, yet willing to hook up in furtive impulse sessions in semi-public. She's so delusional that even though she's narcissistic and annoying I still felt like the guy was taking advantage of somebody developmentally vulnerable. Left me too creeped and disgusted to finish.

Silly Woman

Struggled to finish this book. This woman is too silly. No common sense. I'm surprised.

Historical Fluff -Nothing Deep -Forgettable 2*'s

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Amanda Quick has many fans and this is my first try. I was bored. It took many a night to get through the first few chapters, as I kept falling asleep.

The elements for a good story, but it was as if the author skimmed the surface. I continued to give the author a chance but this particular book didn't grab me at any point.

Historical buffs may enjoy this light work. But I found the plot not complicated. I'd like something deeper, sexier, more action, etc.

I got this on sale and would not recommend buying or using a credit - even if you are an Amanda Quick fan. Wait for a sale.

NOTE: No disclaimers for this one. Pop it in with the kids around, its that 'safe.'
