Publisher's Summary

Notorious Nora Sutherlin is famous for her delicious works of erotica, each one more popular with readers than the last. But her latest manuscript is different - more serious, more personal - and she's sure it'll be her breakout book…if it ever sees the light of day.

Zachary Easton holds Nora's fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: He wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards - in six weeks - or it's no deal.

Nora's grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing. And a dangerous former lover has her wondering which is more torturous - staying away from him…or returning to his bed?

Nora thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in a world where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

    "Terrible Narrator"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Siren to be better than the print version?

NO, the print version is excellent. The only good audible versions of Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners are The Saint and The King narrated by Elizabeth Hart.

What did you like best about this story?

    Eleanor ,Søren and Kingsley.

How could the performance have been better?

    Elizabeth Hart as narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Couldn't finish the audible version. The print version was excellent.

    Any additional comments?

Use Elizabeth Hart for the rest of the Original Sinners...The Virgin and The Queen.

Lost interest very quickly. Had a hard time following sometimes because of the narrators accent.

"Nice intro to a new-to-me author"

After finishing 13 hours of audiobook, I feel a strange sense of loss now that I'm done with this book. "The Siren" crushed and destroyed all of my expectations. It was nothing like I had anticipated.

    It is NOT:

    Erotica
    A traditional romance novel
    Cliche-ridden

Let me break it down for you. This book is Tiffany Reisz writing a novel about an author writing an erotic novel. Confused yet? I was. I was expecting a down and dirty explicit BDSM erotic romance. That is not at all what I got. Though the content is taboo (it can't get much more taboo, honestly, without the addition of incest), there is very little on page sex. What sex content is shown is surprisingly, shockingly tasteful.

Much of the actual book mirrors what Nora (the erotic author and main character) is going through in the writing of her novel. The sex scenes serve only to further the plot line (like Nora's editor told her to do)- nothing is gratuitous. In fact, this story is edited to perfection. It is really and truly flawless in its execution.

What I liked best about this book is that it is the overlapping plot lines that sort of seamlessly come together in the end. There is Zach, the editor having serious marital issues, Nora and her torrid relationship with Soren and Wes, Nora and her writing process, and the whole BDSM dynamic that colors each relationship (for good or for bad). The different story lines don't interfere with one another but rather help progress each other.

Nora is a complicated and compelling character that will stick with me for a long time. I found her to be utterly fascinating. However, that brings me to why my rating is 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I felt very detached from Nora. I was not emotionally invested in her or rest of the characters. Mentally, I was so intrigued and loved the story, but it was more from a clinical point of view. I never grew teary eyed or screamed or got nervous- it was all in my head and not in my heart, I'm afraid. I adored the story but it wasn't an emotional read for me.

A word about the audio version of this book: I loved, loved the narrator for this one. His Zach and Grace voices were flawless, as was his Soren voice. I even forgive him the iffy Nora voice and the HORRIBLE Wes accent because he did such a perfect job narrating the rest of the story. My favorite narrator on any audiobook thus far.

"GREAT Listen! Finally a romance/erotica book with"

I don’t remember which category romance or erotica this book was classified in, however, you get both and much more with this book. I listen to a lot in the combined category and most of the time it’s full of sex scenes, not well written and typically been there read that! This book is truly refreshing and unique since it has a plot, great writing, romance, passion, hot/erotic scenes with “cliff hanging” anticipations. If that is not enough, the author combines many “non vanilla”, taboo and scenarios that are typically seen as “socially deviant” demonstrating a unique and creative mind that breaks the mold for this category of book. After all how many more stories can we tolerate of a “kinky” billionaire that finds the unexpected ordinary woman outside his wealth and kink experience that is going to turn her to his world and ends up falling in love with her… Boring, please stop writing those. I find it interesting that the author describes the editing process of the book Norah is writing in great depth and how the editor is ripping it apart to make it a better book, It seems they put the same effort into providing us with a great book/listen.

    Starting book 2 tomorrow.

    "I'm returning it"

A word of warning, I didn't finish the book, I called it quits after 5 hours, just not my kind of book. Without having my review pulled for spoilers let me explain. There was no love story, I like listening to romance. There were no steamy scenes in 5 hours, I like steamy scenes. And while I have no problem with the idea of Doms or subs or even willing collared slaves I take great exception to the hardcore S and M in this book. Apparently in this context S and M basically means torture, violence, beatings without pleasure, zero sub care oh and the "training" started when the female lead was a teen and the Dom was 30 something. This didn't read like a loving empowering relationship it read like a man who likes to beat a woman until she can't stand and only then have sex with her and then he is done.

I'm sure there are relationships out there like this, but I don't see the point in it, it's just damaged people damaging each other more. Nothing sweet about it, not even drawing a bath for the sub that was just beaten...I don't like the book and feel no compulsion to finish it.

"Too much hype, don't waste a credit"
What would have made The Siren better?

Characters you could CARE about. They were so bland! How is that even possible when its an erotica writer and her publisher?

What do you think your next listen will be?

Hopefully something good. I got a lot of 2 for a credit books and so far I have liked one of them. Anything Kresley Cole or Joey W Hill I will purchase and love.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think the narrator did as good a job as he could with the source material. His female voices were a bit obnoxious to listen to.

What character would you cut from The Siren?

The whole book needed a rewrite.

    Any additional comments?

I disliked this book I almost got a refund. If I hadn't gotten it and another for 1 credit I would have, It had so many good reviews. What a disappointment.

"4.5 "Choices" Story Stars & 3 Narration Stars"

4.5 "Choices" Stars for the story and 3 Stars for the narration by Aeron James.

Glad I finally had a chance to go back and listen to the book that started it all. Interestingly I had only experienced the White Years Quartet, so I think going back and listening to the Red Years Quartet, starting with The Siren, gives me a different perspective than those who have read this series in chronological order.

With certain secrets having already been revealed, there was no big twisty revelations, as I can only imagine at least one priestly revelation must have been in this book. For me, however, it allowed me to more dissect and really analyze the characters. I loved how Ms. Reisz has been remarkably consistent in her characterizations and moral persuasions of these characters throughout. It also made me appreciate how meticulous of a process writing The White Years must have been, as a number of the flashbacks in this book form the backbone of the story of the early years which of course is fleshed out in much more detail in The White Years.

As for the narration, I must admit that as these characters have already become so ingrained in my head, I'm afraid there was no way Aaron James could do them justice. For me, Nora could only be performed by a strong dominant female narrator. Moreover, even Soren didn't sound quite right to me. He sounded to soft to be the powerful winter king that he is. Kingsley also didn't sound quite right to me (even the French accent sounded off and lacked genuineness).

I must admit that I was so engrossed in the story though that I let the narration pass for the most part without affecting my enjoyment of the story even though it definitely didn't fit my mental image/voice of the characters. However, I would love to hear this book recast with a new narrators using a duet narration. For such a treasured series, I think this would make the audiobook a 5+ star listen!

    "Erotica."

I actually thought this was going to be a story with some substance. it wasn't. it was erotica. the female character was SO unbelievable. If you like erotica maybe you'll like this book. I don't and I didn't.

"The unicorn of BDSM books; sexy and good writing"

I am only rating this book a 4 because of the narrator (he was not the best...sorry Mr. James, I mean no harm). Otherwise, it would have been a 5. It was a really well-written book. This is particularly unusual in this genre. I was educated, amused, entertained, amongst other things ;-). Someone described this book as BDSM with a soul and I whole-heartedly agree. I liked the surprises this book had in store for the listener. I liked relationships the main character had with the men in her life. I knew all of them had their flaws but they all stimulated something that needed to be tended to. I have no interest in BDSM other than it's certainly an interesting proclivity. But the writer slowly unfolded the story in a way that at some point I realized I had developed some real understanding and acceptance of Nora's life.

    "Intense!"

This was deep, moving and intense. The sex was... crazy. This is probably the darkest book I've read in the category and truly, it helped give me a true understanding of what this type of relationship actually entails. Wow! I loved the story and was totally entranced.

Even if I can't relate to the sexual preference/lifestyle, it was very seducing and alluring. I will be reading more by this author!!!
