The year is 1878, peak of the Texas cattle trade. The place is Dodge City, Kansas, a saloon-filled cow town jammed with liquored-up adolescent cowboys and young Irish hookers. Violence is random and routine, but when the burned body of a mixed-blood boy named Johnnie Sanders is discovered, his death shocks a part-time policeman named Wyatt Earp. And it is a matter of strangely personal importance to Doc Holliday, the frail 26-year-old dentist who has just opened an office at No. 24, Dodge House.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Publisher's Summary
Betrayal, revenge, and a family scandal that bore a 150-year-old mystery.
When Cooper McQueen wakes up from a night with a beautiful stranger, it's to discover he's been robbed. The only item stolen: a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. The thief, a mysterious woman named Paris, claims the bottle is rightfully hers. After all, the label itself says it's property of the Maddox family, who owned and operated Red Thread Bourbon distillery since the last days of the Civil War, until the company went out of business for reasons no one knows...no one except Paris.
In the small hours of a Louisville morning, Paris unspools the lurid tale of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery that became an empire. Theirs is a legacy of wealth and power but also of lies, secrets, and sins of omission. Why Paris wants the bottle of Red Thread remains a secret until the truth of her identity is at last revealed, and the century-old vengeance Tamara vowed against her family can finally be completed.

Mixed Feelings
I have to start off by saying that up until now I have absolutely loved everything Tiffany Reisz has written. This book I'm not so sure about. I found myself bored in some parts and totally captured in other parts.
The book had enough twists and turns and surprises to keep me listening, but seemed to be a story aimed at older teens and young adults. Lots of angst and melodrama that seemed to stretch credulity at times; even Levi didn't seem to be much more than a teen-aged boy in spite of his age.
Kim Staunton was OK with the delivery of thew story except I found it difficult to know who was speaking at times. This meant I had to back track to work that out.

Very interesting story and full of surprises!!!
My wife and I read this book together. We both enjoyed the storyline and the many surprises. Sometimes we were on the edge of our seats!!! While for the most part we enjoyed Kim Staunton's narration, we felt that she was not able to fully capture the nuances of each character. We kept having to rewind to figure out who was talking. I would also like to add that just because we enjoyed this book does not mean there are not parts that did not frustrate us. But I think they all lent to make it the interesting story that it was. No matter how much we yelled at the characters they just kept going down their own paths. :-) We hope there is a part two to this book. Well done Tiffany.

A masterpiece of storytelling!
I loved this book! I'm fairly new to this author's writing, but this was not at all what I had expected. The story starts with Paris stealing a bottle of bourbon and turns into a masterpiece of storytelling.
"You’re real good at asking questions and terrible at giving answers.”
“I’m trying to figure out what to say.”
"Tell the truth. That shouldn’t be too hard.”
“The truth is the hardest thing to say.”
As Paris tells the story of the bourbon, I got lost in this book, immersed in the past. This story had some amazing twists and left me wanting to know even more. Paris gave us the story of the bourbon and the story of Tamara and Levi, but now I want to know more of the story of Paris!
“And bourbon’s like the truth, you know.”
“How’s that?”
“The first taste burns, but once you get used to it, it’s the only thing you want in your mouth.”
The audiobook narration by Kim Staunton was awesome! She really put the Kentucky into The Bourbon Thief!

More Romance than Fiction
I agree with another reviewer who said this reads like a romance. So many sex scenes. I'm not a prude, maybe it's just listening to it that makes it seem like they're having sex every two minutes vs reading a hard copy. I was excited because this got such good reviews but I found this to be just a mediocre story.

A great performance and heart breaking story
This was my first Audible "read" and I wasn't really too excited about Audible but decided to give it a try and I'm really glad I did. The Bourbon Thief had been on my TBR for a while so I decided to use my free credit to get it. I loved the story and couldn't put it down. I even teared up a little when it was over. I can't say too much about the plot without giving anything away. Some people may not be happy with how it turned out but I was completely satisfied. I'll be reading more from Tiffany Reisz.

Might want to think twice about your bourbon
Any additional comments?
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
The Bourbon Thief is the story of the Maddox families rise and fall. This was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. A crazy crazy ride of every emotion you could possible have. There is so much that happens in this book that I didn’t expect or was prepared for. There is so much that I could tell you but I don’t want to give away anything. I will give you just a little.
The Bourbon Thief starts with a woman in a fancy red dress looking for a man to share a nice glass of bourbon with. Lucky for Cooper McQueen this woman just walked into his bar and is about to change his life.
Such a great story! This is also my first Tiffany Reisz book and I really enjoyed reading/listening to this book.
I did listen to this book on audio. This was also my first book listening to Kim Staunton. Ms. Staunton did a fabulous job of bring these characters to life. Even though I was listening to this book in the Pacific Northwest I felt like I was in the south. Ms. Staunton did a wonderful job with the voices and accents. I will be adding her to my list of narrators I enjoy and will be watching for more of her work in the future.

Enough twists and turns to make me dizzy
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Bourbon Thief?
I absolutely loved this story. It was so strongly written and had enough twists and turns to make me dizzy. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, or who was who - I was wrong!
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The only issue with the narration was that the narrator didn't make enough difference in her voice for the different characters and I was often confused about who was speaking. Even men and women sounded similar.
