Publisher's Summary

On a splendid August afternoon, Susanna Osbourne is introduced to the most handsome man she has ever seen...and instantly feels the icy chill of recognition. Peter Edgeworth, Viscount Whitleaf, is utterly charming - and seemingly unaware that they have met before. With his knowing smile and seductive gaze, Peter acts the rake; but he stirs something in Susanna she has never felt before, a yearning that both frightens and dazzles her. Instantly, she knows this brash nobleman poses a threat to her heart and to the secrets she guards so desperately.

From the moment they meet, Peter is drawn to Susanna's independence, dazzled by her sharp wit; he simply must have her. But the more he pursues, the more Susanna withdraws - until a sensual game of thrust-and-parry culminates in a glorious afternoon of passion. Now more determined than ever to keep her by his side, Peter begins to suspect that a tragic history still haunts Susanna. And as he moves closer to the truth, Peter is certain of one thing: He will defy the mysteries of her past for a future with this exquisite creature. All Susanna must do is trust him with the most precious secret of all....

Contains mature themes.

Best so far

I have read three of the four books in this series and liked them all but this one I loved. Mary Balogh's romances are not full of angst but just full of love and other deep emotions, which makes the characters very appealing and the books easy to enjoy.

Great listen!

Very enjoyable, sweet, intriguing, and passionate . Most importantly more realistic than many historical romances. I definitely recommend. Well written and as always love the narrator.

Why the change in Susanna's accent in this book?

I enjoyed listening to this book and it flowed well. The only thing that puzzles me is why Susanna's accent has changed? In the first two books Susanna had a scottish (??) accent yet in her own book she has the accent of a polished english lady??? Slightly confusing if you ask me but overall still a great book!

Too Slow....but nice suspence at end

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Story was predictable until the end. However that was hours later.
Not up to Balough's other books.

As always, love her stories.

This story is interesting, with an unexpected twist toward the end. I became thoroughly immersed in it. As always, the combination of this author and narrator makes for pure enjoyment.

For Those That Love Happy....

if you can't resist a happy ending, this is a book for you. There's never any doubt that Peter and Suzanne are in love and that each will (eventually) break whatever social rules that it takes to be together. Without giving too much away, the storyline regarding their parents, is a new twist for romance readers. So, Mary Balogh gets full marks for the unique plot . Yet, as a reader/listener I found it hard to connect to the couple's anguish and frustrations in their quest to be together. I would give this book a 3 star rating. The narration is an excellent 4 stars. Of all of the "Simply" series, Simply Magic has the weakest sense of emotion. The best by far remains Simply Love, which I highly recommend.

Big build up to a nothing ending.

All the possibilities were there, interesting characters, plot potential...but it didn't happen! The selfish , witchy mother should have got her come-uppance.
