Publisher's Summary

In the heart of Scotland, this Highlander is about to meet his match in a brand-new romance from best seller May McGoldrick.

Highland warrior Alexander Macpherson has lost his wife. When he agrees to take Kenna Mackay as his bride to advance his clan's power in the north, he expects a bit of an adjustment. He doesn't expect the sharp-tongued beauty to run away on their wedding night. Still, Alexander wants his runaway bride...and he has the sneaking suspicion that she wants him, too.

Kenna Mackay thinks she is safe in a priory full of nuns learning the craft of healing, but when she is kidnapped by her own husband, the battle of wits begins anew. But even as passions ignite, a deadly secret from Kenna's past rises to the surface and puts their new love in jeopardy. As a heartless villain closes in, two headstrong lovers find themselves locked in a struggle between evil and the power of undying love. And this time Alexander is determined he will not lose his wife again.

Loved it!

I cannot wait for the next two Audible installments to complete the series. I loved the banter between the two characters. The intimate scenes were steamy and the love they shared was perfectly developed throughout the story.

Good Story!

I've never read any of May McGoldricks books prior to this one, and I found it to be very entertaining. The only parts that took me slightly aback were the gore, but once I got used to her writing style I really enjoyed the story, plot, and characters. The suspense goes right up until the end, and that's the part where I buy the next book because I want to find out what happened next ;)

VERY ENJOYABLE AUDIO BOOK

This book was exciting all the way threw. I look forward to the next book on audible. Kenna and Alexander made the perfect couple. They wasn't this lovey dubbing couple at first, they fought like wild cats. But alway there for each and when the enemy was close the new how to work together. It really was a fantastic book. I look forward to the next one.

PLEASE put the rest on Audible!?

Such a good book! The perfect highland romance, except it's only the one book. According to goodreads there are quite a few May McGoldrick books they just aren't on audible! WHY NOT????
Saskia Maarleveld is great too, have her do the rest of the series at least, please?

Excessive violence & gore

This writer could be quite good but this book isn’t appealing. Excessive graphic detail of sadistic villains on killing sprees is not material I want to read or hear. More deft writers can portray sadistic threats without the gore.

Definite capability in witty repartee & crafting interesting characters.

I had to skip most chapters owing to the violence. Then found the end commits a fatal sin: this is not truly one complete book but rather one-third of one book. Unlike good trilogies, this one cannot stand on its own. It has numerous loose ends & attempts to lure the reader into buying more.

I buy books gladly - including multi-volume series- when the author completes each book well. In such a series each book intersects & offer intriguing interplays with others but each can stand on its own as a complete book. E.g Lisa Kleypass, Julia Quinn. This author needs to work on this skill, & editors need to require it.

So much potential

This story had so much potential but I found myself losing track as the narrative bounced from one character to another. All of the characters pretty much sounded the same. Better to read than listen.

Great book loved the story

This book had a lot of humour in it which I quite enjoyed. The story line was well written and characters believable. The narrator did a nice Scottish accent. Can’t wait to hear the next story in the series

Definitely worth buying!

This was a great book to listen to - the characters were beautifully crafted, the dialogue and banter between the main characters very engaging and the story full of enough twists and side stories to keep you very entertained! Saskia Maarleveld does an amazing job of narrating the story - I think she is my favourite narrator!!
