It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. I was too young, he said. I would wait. But I'd learn that no matter what you achieve in life, it means nothing if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn't matter. My older sister saw him next.
I'm getting really good at cutting my losses. First, the husband. Divorcing him was the best decision I ever made. But between single-parenting and job-hunting, I can't catch my breath. When a celebrity blogging position falls into my lap, I'm determined to succeed. That is, until I get my first assignment and actually see Noah Frazier for the first time...practically naked and dripping wet. My heart races and I forget how to form complete sentences. His chiseled abs, irresistible smirk, and crystal blue eyes are too perfect to be real. So, what do I do? Get drunk and humiliate myself, of course.

Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn't been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

The first time I met Jade Jameson, I lost my words and accidentally dropped a beer bottle, smashing it to the ground. The Broadway star sister of my brother's wife had paid us a surprise visit on Christmas. Quite simply, she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen; I was mesmerized. I'd made a fool of myself, and to make matters worse, my girlfriend was standing right there when it happened. Jade went back to New York, and we didn't cross paths again for a year - until one night when a Facebook notification lit up my screen, setting off a chain of events that would change my life.
I'm a reporter, and I've got the best assignment in the world - get dirt on the hottest country star on the charts, Keith Perkins. The sexy beast who rocks those tight jeans like nobody's business. I'm supposed to learn all of his Dirty Laundry, his deepest and darkest secrets. Without sleeping with him. Easy enough, right? Wrong. I mean, just looking at him makes me wonder what those big, rough hands could do to me. With a voice that's one part velvet and one part growl, it's hard for me to sass him when he melts me into a puddle with a single look.
She's the tutor I hired to teach me Italian. She's way too young for me, but she's also gorgeous, bright, and filled with a curiosity about life that I find incredibly refreshing. It's f--king adorable. I’m old enough to know better, but this pretty, young thing tempts me beyond belief. And for the first time in my life, I can see myself falling. But is our attraction enough to get us through the complications of a massive age gap and an international love affair? Only one way to find out....
I'm one puff piece away from tearing up my journalism degree and hurling my laptop into the Hudson River. So when I smell a juicy story brewing at my brother's Wall Street investment firm, I'll do whatever it takes to get my scoop. One clever disguise later, I'm deep undercover as the firm's newest broker, simultaneously gathering intel and spouting off stock tips like a boss. Go me, right? Sure, it sounds good on paper, but there's a catch: the actual boss. Chief Executive Panty-melter Jack Holt is cocky. Infuriating. And one smoldering look has me ready to violate every rule in the employee handbook. Thank God my assignment has an expiration date. Because falling for my brother's best friend and business partner is a lose-lose proposition. Right?
I couldn't have scripted a more perfect night. For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I'm not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine - multimillionaire. But who's counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I've ever met. And that's why I'm eager to get to know her more, since my mystery woman seems to like me for me, rather than for my huge...bank account. Everything's coming up aces. Until the next day, when things get a little complicated. (Newsflash - a lot complicated.)
He’s my most delicious secret. The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening. I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name. Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked. We met in room 301. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul. The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him. I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch. I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him.
Thirty days ago, my boss, Mr. Wolf of Wall Street, came to me with an offer I couldn't refuse: Sign my name on the dotted line and pretend to be his fiancée for one month. If I agreed, he would let me out of my employment contract with a "very generous" severance package. The rules were pretty simple: No intimate kissing, no actual sex. Just pretend to love each other for the press, even though I've secretly wanted to knock that sexy smirk off his face since the first day we met.
Sadie Hunt isn't perfect - but her husband is. Nathan Hunt has her coffee waiting every morning. He holds her hand until the last second. He worships the Manhattan sidewalk she walks on. Until one day, he just...stops. And Sadie finds herself in the last place she ever expected to be: lonely in her marriage. When rugged and sexy Finn Cohen moves into the apartment across the hall, he and Sadie share an immediate spark. Finn reveals dreams for a different life. Sadie wants to save her marriage. Their secrets should keep them apart, not ignite a blistering affair.
We were childhood friends, me and the boy who would grow up to become Hollywood's hottest star. When I was six, I fell for him at the bus stop. When I was 15, he moved away, taking my heart with him. When I was 24, he came back for me, even though I didn't want him. The nine years we spent apart, I tried like hell to fill the void. Apparently, so did he. Instead of being addicted to me, he became addicted to women, drugs, and money.
The final book in the Something in the Way series, and a USA Today best seller.
Manning and I have what happily ever after is made of....
A home he built us on the unshakable foundation we fought for.
A life of laughter carved out of heartache and betrayal.
A love story to stand the test of time.
But between a trust that can’t be broken, joy that can’t be bridled, and passion that would scorch the sun, the empty spaces are becoming more and more difficult to ignore....
Fears that keep Manning up at night as he slips from our bed.
Our complicated relationship with a man he respects, and one I don't know how to forgive.
And a sprawling, beautiful home with one small room I'm afraid I'll never be able to fill.
Manning and I have what happily ever after is made of....
But I'll beg the heavens for just one thing more.
This book was so unnecessary. I really dislike lake now, she is so whiny... basically just a bunch of sex scenes and lack of communication about them wanting children and trying to have them... the previous book should have ended it.
This series is one of my favorites! It is full of love and adoration ,romance and is hot and steamy! ❤
I was glad to hear the finish to Lake & Manning's love story but I felt it was rushed. I was happy to come across this series as I always rushed to my vehicle to hear Lake & Manning's story via e-book.
Would you consider the audio edition of Lake + Manning to be better than the print version?
Love, love, love Andi!
Which scene was your favorite?
All of it.
Any additional comments?
This was an end to a really good series that drove me crazy, in a good way, for much of it. It’s a good story that can keep you guessing as to how and when a couple will get their HEA.
Would you try another book from Jessica Hawkins and/or Andi Arndt?
I'm not sure.
What do you think your next listen will be?
A thriller
What three words best describe Andi Arndt’s voice?
She's ok, but I kind of felt that there she made Lake and Manning seem like they were "Debbie Downers." Of course, she still did a better job than I could ever do.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lake + Manning?
The whole angst about everything!
What a roller coaster ride! This is a beautiful love story that I will never forget. C
I would have liked a little more but that's just because I love these characters so much! I also would have liked to hear somethings from Manning's perspective but all in all this was great! Sad that is over😢
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
not really, I wish I had stopped at book 3#.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I wish I knew.
What aspect of Andi Arndt’s performance would you have changed?
Andi is a great narrator, but she can only read the words that are written.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
less pregnancy angst ..
Heart wrenching, but I loved every minute of it! And of course the narration was spectacular as usual. this series is definitely a new favorite.
This book was the perfect way to end the story of Lake and Manning! I’m really sad to close the chapter on one of my favorite book couples! The only minor issue I had with this book was not having pieces of the story told from Manning’s perspective. We did in the first 3. There’s a few parts in here I would’ve loved to have his input. But other than that really great, not a deal breaker for me.
