Publisher's Summary

Old fans and new listeners will embrace this steamy thriller by the writer USA Today calls "the reigning queen of romantic suspense."

Meet Vinh Murphy, part African American, part Vietnamese, with just enough Irish thrown in to make things confusing for anyone looking for a guy named Murphy.

Since an assignment in which his wife, Angelina, was fatally shot, Murphy has been unemployed, battling booze and blackouts, and bumming it from shelter to shelter. He eventually reaches out to Hannah Whitfield, an old friend and his saving grace.

Meanwhile, the FBI is looking for a guy named Murphy in connection with the murder of Tim Ebersole, a Neo-Nazi leader whose group - the Freedom Network - may be connected to Angelina's death.

As Murphy fights for his freedom and for his will to live, Hannah fights for justice, and for the man she loves.

Looking for trouble? Listen to another romantic thriller in the Troubleshooters series.

    "Into the Fire"

Brockman's books just keep getting better! It is nice to read a series and get to know everyone. I was thrilled while listening to this story. In the future I am going to buy the audible first.

    Great story

"Great reading of a pretty good book"

This isn't really all that interesting as a suspense novel, although I suppose it's good as a romance. The writing is good, and much of the character development is above par. The pacing, however, is great, which makes up for an average plot. The ending is far too neat and tidy, and it feels like a set up for her next book.

What I especially liked was the reading. While the narrators sometimes switch at odd moments, they're both excellent and kept the story interesting.

    Story
"I never want to read another of her books"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Her characters and the plots were just thrown together. They were unbelievable and so were their actions. Among other things, I couldn't accept two professionals going into a white supremacy camp, knowing they couldn't leave any trace evidence in a shack and almost having sex there. Come on! If they are professionals, they get the job done first. The author obviously doesn't like SEAL's and treated them like over sexed muscle men.

It felt like this book was written to satisfy some contract with a publisher and was hastily thrown together.

My bookclub read this book and most of them didn't even finish reading it. I kept reading hoping it would eventually it would redeem itself. No such luck. All of us agreed it was terrible.

Has Into the Fire turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I like action adventure stories. I like Linda Howard, Nora Roberts, Dean Koontz, Craig Johnson, Lee Child, to name a few . I need to believe the characters and their actions are consistant with how the author portrays them.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrators read the book as written. Would have been happier if they read something else.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment and disgust. It seems to me that highly trained professionals would behave like professionals on the job and save locker room antics for after their jobs were solved. I felt I just wasted my time reading it.

"Had to give it a second listen"

When I first started listening to "Into the Fire" it seemed all over the place and difficult to follow. The flipping back and forth from character to character, passed and present tense was originally overwhelming so I stopped listening. Curiosity made me pick it back up again. By the 15th chapter I was so hooked I listened even in the shower. This was a well crafted book with a good ending. I would definitely recommend listening to this story weaving in and out of this thick plot.

    "This story has it all"

Suspense, Romantic Interest, Great Characters, Great Storyline: this book has it all. Another great installment in Brockmann's Troubleshooters series. Well worth the purchase price. I appreciate the continuity of Lawlor's narration. Raudman's throws me a little because I'm used to hearing it in the context of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews.

    "Horney SEALS"

the summary of this seemed interesting. but if you are not a teenaged boy high on hormones you might find the action drivel. The characters are all thinking about or engaging in sex all the time. the actual story is interesting enough even though it relies heavily on last minute saves. strangely it seems like a boys wet dream crossed with a bodice ripper with some action thrown in.

While the story had potential to capture and maintain my attention, I found it challenging to finish. There was a disconnect between the performances and the story.

Not to take anything away from Renee, but I like the Patrick/Melanie pairing better for Suzanne's books.
