Steamy romance

If you want the good guys to always win, the gal to win her man's heart, and some rock solid bodies to dream about, this is the book/series for you! The story also has some intrigue in it, but it's still a great and steamy romance throughout. Love it!

Better than the first one...

I got into this book a lot more quickly and easily than the first of the series. I was doubtful after that one about continuing to read, but decided to give it a try because this one was on sale. The author really stepped it up, so I'm looking forward to getting the next one.

Having grown up in a small town in the south, I can empathize with the main characters and the things that they deal with. The 'who dun it' thing was good too since I was able to tell somewhat who was involved, but couldn't guess exactly who and why.

If I had a complaint it would be the narrator's inconsistency in voices and accents. But, that wasn't so distracting that it took away from the story.

Good for an older Brockmann SEAL story

I read this a few years ago, but when it showed up in Audible Escape I decided to give the audiobook a try. It's so hard to rate these older Suzanne Brockmann works. Compared to the level of writing in her Troubleshooters series as well as the production/narration quality of those audiobooks, it leaves many of these Tall Dark & Dangerous books feeling slightly bereft. This book is also not one of my favorites of the TD&D series. Still clocks in at 3.5 stars.

Carter "Blue" McCoy is back in his tiny hometown to attend the wedding of his brother and former sweetheart. Blue doesn't have feelings for Jenny Lee anymore ~ but it doesn't stop the gossip mill from turning.

Lucy Tait is a rookie in the local Sheriff's office and is still harboring feelings for her high school crush. When Blue's brother is murdered and Blue becomes the prime suspect, Lucy is assigned to be lead investigator.

Here's where things get a little tricky for me as a reader/listener. This is a small town, so I'm willing to give leeway in what is protocol or how people would/should/might act. There's a lot of unprofessionalism and "seriously, would anyone get away with that?" going on that's somewhat distracting in it's totality.

Also, one of the things I *love* about Brockmann is her ability to write strong female characters. Even if vulnerable, they're usually no dummies. Lucy is one of her weaker characters in terms of incompetence as an officer and her determination to think that, despite repeated statements to the contrary, Blue is still in love with Jenny Lee. It gets old by the end.

The mystery/suspense part is fairly solid, but as the stage is “small town” the action is fairly benign for a Military Romance. Blue & Lucy get their HEA, but it’s abrupt. The epilogue is cute.

While I prefer dual narration on books with alternating POVs, this narrator was still good. She did have the tendency to sound like she had something in her mouth at times, but overall it was a good recording. Honestly, I think I’d rather read it next time.

Great suspense but lots of angst

This book has wonderful characters and great suspense! I got a bit tired of the repeating whine of Lucy and a bit by Blue and there is a lot of angst. The romance has a rocky road but a wonderful end. The narration is excellent. This is an entertaining book!

Great series

This author is one of my favorites, if you want a romantic Action story choose this series and SBrockmanns' Trouble shooters series.

Forever fun

Ms. Brockmann's books are always great, and this one was no exception. It's not her finest, but it's a good solid story of a SEAL who ends up in a whole heck of a mess (through no fault of his own) while on leave and about the woman who helps him turn the whole fiasco in a happily ever after. It was written in the late 90s, and one thing that jumps out is the change the events of the early 21st century brought about in terms of how the average citizen treats members of the military. Blue/Carter received no respect from the town where he had grown up, but were the story written today, I think the environment would be much more welcoming. As in all Ms. Brockmann's books, the hero deserves his title, and his heroine is every bit as fiercely deserving of hers.

always loved this series

I remember reading these when they were first released in paperback, it's fun to listen to them again and see how the author has developed over the years.

Blue’s story

Ok, but not my fave storyline in the series. I really like how supportive Blue was in Prince Joe, and I appreciate hearing his backstory. It’s just the trying to frame him for his stepbrother’s death wasn’t working for me. I also like Lucy as a character; and I’m happy they get their own HEA.
Adlon was ok as narrator.

Somewhat predictable.

The unconventional woman with a torch for the older guy who was her HS hero and the local boy who left and proved himself get together. It was a little hard to believe the local police chief. The framing job would never have stood up in court, but without last minute rescue Blue wouldn't have made it to court. Good series to learn about the SEALS.
