Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Lexi Blake comes a new series set in her Masters and Mercenaries world.

A man without a past

Jax woke up in a lab, his memories erased and his mind reprogrammed to serve a mad woman's will. After being liberated from his prison, he pledged himself to the only thing he truly knows - his team. Six men who lost everything. They must make certain no one else gets their hands on the drugs that stole their lives, all while hiding from every intelligence organization on the planet. The trail has led Jax to an unforgiving mountainside and a beautiful wilderness expert who may be his only hope of finding the truth.

A woman with a bright future

River Lee knows her way around the Colorado wilderness. She's finally found a home in a place called Bliss after years lost in darkness. The nature guide prefers to show her clients the beauty found in the land, but she also knows the secrets the mountains hold. When she meets Jax, something about the troubled man calls to her. She agrees to lead him to the site of an abandoned government facility hidden deep in the forest. She never dreamed she was stepping into the middle of a battlefield.

A love that could heal a broken soul

Spending time with River, Jax discovers a peace he's never known. Their passion unlocks a side of himself he didn't even know he was missing. When an old enemy makes his first move, Jax and River find themselves fighting for their lives. But when his past is revealed, will River be caught in the crosshairs of a global conspiracy?

Loved it

The first in a new series spin off from the hugely popular Masters and Mercenaries. When I heard about this series I jumped at the chance to read.
Rescued by McKay Taggart, 6 men wander the world no longer knowing their true identities. Used as experiments they have had their memories stripped from them and they all react in varying ways.
This is Jax’s (formally known as Harvey)story and that of the woman who comes into his life River Lee.
Now in the town of Bliss to investigate a long abandoned research facility Jax is tormented by his lack of a past and what he did while under the control of the mad doctor. However in Jax has found a little peace in Bliss.
However when his past comes back to haunt him, danger will rear it’s head. Will Jax be able to keep River safe or will he lose the woman who has come to mean so much to him?
Nobody does romantic suspense books like Lexi Blake. Memento Mori is filled with suspense, danger, intrigue and the growth of a deep and committed love; one that made my heart pound at times. Lexi Blake always ensure that her characters are never one dimensional or superficial and I was engrossed from the first chapter to the last. As always it was great to see some familiar faces pop into the book.
I cannot wait to see what Ms.Blake has in store for the rest of The Lost Boys, The Forgotten… as they seek to find their past and in doing so find their future.

Ryan West does a fantastic job narrating this book.

Spin-off is like original series w/o the BDSM aspect

This spin-off is more like a continuation of the original series. It has the same characters, the same narrator, the same type of special op type action and the ultimate goal is similar. Now, since Hope is dead and her “boys” have all been rescued, the goal has transitioned to finding all of Hope’s research material to ensure that no one can pick up where Hope left off. In addition, the team wants to find any information that can help the “lost Boys” discover who they were before their memory was erased. The biggest difference from the original series is that the story is not surrounded by the BDSM lifestyle. ‘Tis is more like a standard romance, rather than erotica.
Anyone who enjoyed the original series will slide comfortably into this spin-off.

The Taggert Group continues.

This series of books covers the"lost boys" that were a minor part of the Masters and Mercinaries series.
The narration was read by the same narrator that read the M and M books, Ryan West. He seems to have the perfect voice for all the males roles and his female tones are pretty good also.
This is the1st book in this series so I felt that the book was used to introduce many characters by name but they weren't necessarily party of this story. I imagine those persons will get their own book. This was more of a "set up the players" type story. It centers around Jax, one of the men who had been tortured and rescued by the Taggert team and River, the owner of a backpacking, hiking company - for hire to lead excursions into the forest so to speak. This book didn't go too deep into back stories for each of the two main characters, just enough to lay some basics for them.
Taggert and team are searching for the lab facilities that was used by Dr. Hope. McDonald, brilliant evil doctor who was killed in the M and M series. She conducted experiments on unwilling soldiers and forced them to do unspeakable acts. Her father, who is also dead, was part of this conspiracy - to produce a super soldier that will do what they are told, no questions asked. The Lost Boys had much of their memories erased and they only hope that if they can find the buildings and possibly Dr. McDonald's lab notes, they will find out their real name and where they are from. Then they will be able to reclaim their lives.
This story also centers around factions within the CIA working against one another, agents crossings lines, being double crossed, set up to take the fall for someone else's screw up or leaving the agency because they are fed up with personal agendas of high ups.
There is mention of the BDSM club owned by Taggert, but this story does not revolve around it. Ian Taggert does make brief appearances along with his gruff humor and "tagg-isms". Always good for a laugh.
Looking forward to discovering what this group gets involved in next in the 2nd book.
While it isn't necessary to read the Masters and Mercenaries series to enjoy this story, you will find that if you go back to the start of this story line, things will make be
tter sense.

Great Start to Spin Off Series

5 stars for everything. Lexi once again delivers a story with heart, humour & the whole gamut of emotions. Add in appearances of characters from Bliss & Masters and Mercenaries series, a twist didn't see coming, and it was no wonder I locked myself away to both read and listen to this book. Ryan West is the absolute best choice for all of her series audio. His voice really sets the characters up.Highly recommend.

Love the start to this spinoff series

Lost Heart by Lexi Blake was remarkable. Action packed and the chemistry is off the charts.
I love the sarcasm. I laugh, cried and shouted while reading about The Lost Boys.
I also loved the fact that Lexi incorporated people from her Bliss series under her pen name Sophie Oak.
Lexi writes good strong characters. I can't wait for Owen's book.
I would recommend this book.

New team

This was great story with this new team. The tie ends are fascinating and great way to tie in the older group to the new one. I loved the way she wove her story. I can not wait for the next book.

Love the Way Ryan West Narrates

Once again, the book is just too long. Too much introspection. I am starting to think if it wasn't for Ian Taggert and Charlie, I might stop listening to this series at all. They are at least funny.

I really want to know what happens with the Lost boys, which is the only reason I am continuing. I got tired of listening to River go back and forth. I could tell which position Heather took early on. Same with Andy. It was rather obvious.

I admit I skimmed through or rather fast forwarded through some of this book. I don't feel like I missed anything. There was the inevitable HEA for Jax and River. I did like the nice twist at the end. And, the search continues for the rest of the Lost Boys identities. The Ryan West narration is good. It is also what keeps me coming back. I love the way he narrates these books.

Good spin off

The circle surrounding Big Tag and his family (by blood, by marriage and by honor) is getting wider. I loved both Jax and River.
Lexi Blake creates great, consistent characters and her stories are suspenseful and entertaining.

The downside for me is that the BDSM merely is being mentioned and not really practiced.

Still a very good read.

Dreadful

Who talks like this? The dialogue was dreadful; the plot meandered and seemed to get lost at times. Not compelling at all.

Stellar off shoot series from Lexi Blake

I really loved this book. What was the most interesting to me was the intersection of three of Lexi's series in one place. Zach Hayes is president. Sigh! Learning more about the Lost Boys is wonderful. Jax and River's story is great. Loved it!

Action packed

This is a great book. With good characters and a brilliant storyline. It says this is the first book in the series, however I felt that there should of been at least 1 book before this explaining the past. I enjoyed it nonetheless,

Trumps good night story !

If you want a story full of insane conspiracy theories !
This is a book for extreme right wing Americans with a love for a sprinkle of light BDSM !
Ryan West is the only positive thing about this audiobook, any other type of paper or kindle version of this ‘thing’ would be a total waste paper and time.

super cheesy/cringey

I love romance books, but this was a too cringey for me. I kept listening because the suspense part was good, even though the author made the bad guys too predictable. i haven't read anything from this author before so it's hard to compare but I didn't feel like it was well written, but I'm.not sure if that's just cos then men were socially awkward. I found the other men in the story also really weird. everyone had unrealistic dialogue and it was strange. I wasn't the biggest fan of river, my favourite character was her friend Heather. didn't feel like there was enough depth to the main male character. he was just super optimistic and untraumatised and it wasn't believable. I'm tempted to continue just cos I did really enjoy the actual plot! and I'd like to know if a story with Heather is better.

Wow

I soooo enjoyed this book. All the fun and sarcastic comments you expect from big tag. It was as great as what you expect from Lexi. I have to admit I read a review saying that masters and mercenaries was done. But that was not so. So many characters from another series. Was great.
Ryan was awesome as always at narration.

The Lost Boys start to find a way home!!

I was captivated by the Lost Boys (as coined by the ever fabulous Ian Taggart) after we met them in Theo & Erin's book and was thrilled to see that they had their own series. Jax and River's story takes us to Bliss (the first time I read this book I hadn't read the Nights in Bliss series so this reread was great to make connections with all those fabulous characters) and I loved every minute. All the side characters are wonderful, Jax & River's story has me hooked and the jaw dropping moments that happen towards the end of this book had me clambering to read more!!

Once again Ryan West does a fabulous job bringing this story to life. I could listen to his voice ALL DAY!!

A bit long winded.

It got a bit confusing with all the names at one part and it wasn't needed to get the story of the characters. A bit to long in parts which wasn't necessary. ok story.

Jax and River

The Lost Boys are looking for Hope McDonalds lab in the wilderness of Bliss.
River is a trail guide and the group seek her help to find the facility.

The beginning to the story was not helpful. It gave many names that caused confusion, but keep going, it becomes clearer.
As this is the first book it deals with the experimental side of the story, which is not pretty.

nope

there are so many Lexi Blake books I thought of reading but decided to give this a go. nope....not for me. when it comes to black ops I'm a Susan stoker Anna Hackett, Riley Edwards and definately the ultimate Kris Michaels kinda gal. unfortunately Lexi pales in comparison.
the 1st chapter was setting the hero in my mind but there was so many names and scenes I felt so confused and felt like I probably got a summary of a backstory....it was a brutal reckoning that gave me a semi shock type of value but it didn't have depth of the how's, why's and where's, hence I felt it was a summary of a backstory.
I got to chapter 4 and started to turn off, the history of the hero and his present day just didn't work for me. again his mind set and the heroines mind set just jumped everywhere.....
I mean deciding to talk about leaving in the middle of a very important part...(no spoilers)....nope just couldn't connect.
it's a reasonably long book, hours wise and it will probably get better but when I switch off in a black ops book that's normally an indication that something doesn't gel.
it just seemed too much too quick, like setting the whole book in record time, regardless of the depth of emotion your suppose to feel.
If it gets better then my bad.....but had to stop.
Kris Michaels has just released Jeremiah....gotta go to my fave lady.

not my cup of tea

I get that the premise of the story is unrealistic to begin with, but the painfully relayed backstory was so unrealistic, that I just couldn't continue listening. The main character seemed angry and resentful but had no depth. calling people brothers rather than using their names was weird -Especially seeing as there were so many of them.

The narrator did an ok job but wasn't very good at accents.
