Publisher's summary

Centuries ago, by a scaffold in Manhattan, rose petals drifted gently to the ground like snow on a wintry Massachusetts night. Melody Tarleton is driving home for Christmas when a man - clad in Revolutionary War-era costume - appears out of nowhere, right in the path of her car. Shaken, she takes the injured stranger in, listening with concern to Jake Mallory's fantastic claim that he's a Patriot soldier, sentenced to death by British authorities. The last thing he remembers is the tug of the noose.

Safe at her parents' house, Melody concocts a story to explain the handsome holiday guest with the courtly manners, strange clothes, and nasty bump on the head. Mark, her close friend who wishes he were more, is skeptical and her family is fascinated - though not half so fascinated as Melody herself. Jake is passionate, charming and utterly unlike anyone she's ever met. Can he really be who he claims? And can a man from the distant past be the future she truly longs for?

With the aid of enchanted petals, ancient potions and the peculiar magic of the season, Melody and Jake embark on an unimaginable Christmas adventure - and discover a love that transcends time.

Didn’t expect to like it so much!

It was a lovely story. I thought the premise was a little childish but it turned out to be a beautiful Christmas fairy tale.

Enjoy every year! SPOILERS

I have enjoyed listening to this book each Christmas for the past few years. The narration is excellent and the storyline is very interesting. I love the history woven throughout the book-that is what drew me to it in the first place. Something else I find interesting is that while some of the views of some of the characters differ from my own views, and their beliefs differ from my own, it is written in a very respectable manner. The characters can disagree on certain topics, but still be respectful towards each other. I also love the relationships shown throughout. Mona and George, as husband and wife have a deep devotion to one another, and Melody and Keith as sister and brother seem to be very close as well. When Jake comes into the picture, they all take him in in a very “familiar”-type way. Even Mark, after it is clear that there is no future for him and Melody, is still very cared for by the whole family. There are really no “villains” here.
Again, with the narration, it is easy to hear a character change and the acting is excellent!

Fun listen for the holiday

If you suspend any thought of reality, it is a fun concept, especially how a 1770's mind might veiw a 21st century world. Wish there had been more of that.

Really enjoyed it!

I loved the whole time travel thing. It was well written and believable. The story is good so don't wait for Christmas to read it.

Predictable and a tad monotonous

The story was typical, feel good, cosy romance. Nothing earth shattering. For me, stories like these can get tedious real fast so authors need to keep the pace.

This one barely made the mark of being tolerable. Too draggy, heavy repetition of the same tired tropes, same dialogue and 1 dimensional characters. I couldn't bring myself to like any of them.

The only thing that kept me listening was the otherworldly bits of time travel and magic. Without that, I would've given up long ago.

Unusual but awesome Christmas story

What a unique Christmas story that will warm your heart and perhaps make you look at your family relationships through a different lense. I love Heather Graham's books, but this was an unexpected delight! Don't miss this one! It is truly awesome!.😍

Good story and narration..

I’ve read a couple of other books by Heather Graham and she’s pretty good. I did like this one especially, because time travel is my favorite genre, if it’s written well. And this was written well.

And I really like when the hero is the traveler, instead of always the heroine.

This was about Jake, who was about to be hanged during the Revolutionary War, when he suddenly disappeared and showed up in the 21st century and was nearly run over by the heroine Melody.

I loved every secondary character in the story: Mona and George, Melody’s parents, Keith, her brother, Mark, the one who was supposed to love her, and Serena, Jake’s sister who was back in 1776. Great family Christmas story.

No sex or swearing.

As to the narration: Angela Dawe is one of my very favorite now, and she wasn’t half bad, considering she read this in 2009.

Good narration and some funny moments, but...

There are a few instances of the "a" word, and in Chapter 5, I heard the "b" word used four times in a conversation. There's some drinking. Wiccans and other beliefs are represented. There was possibly implied lovemaking, but no actual scenes. I was hoping for a Christian romance, but it was not so much.

My Favorite Time Travel

I've recently become a huge Heather Graham fan, but I'm always nervous about time travel stories because they frequently end tragically and I prefer happy endings to my romances. I should have known Graham wouldn't let me down. This was an awesome story that took place mostly in the present with some scenes taking place during the American Revolution. All the characters were so likable, I felt like I was a part of their family. The hero, Jake Mallory, who traveled to the present to escape the noose in 1776, was such a wonderful hero. Everyone who met him loved him, including me. There were Christmas themes about faith, belief, and love. Angela Dawe did a great narration. She was good at the different voices and accents. Overall, it was just a wonderful Christmas listen that I highly recommend. #TimeTravel #ChristmasRomance #AmericanRevolution
