Publisher's Summary

Police Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara found her calling at an early age, when a violently unstable man broke into her family's home, trapping and terrorizing them for hours. Now she's Savannah's top hostage negotiator, who puts her life on the line every day to defuse powder-keg situations. Phoebe knows when to reach out and when to pull back - and when to jump in and take action, even if it means risking everything.

It's satisfying work - and sometimes those skills come in handy at home when Phoebe deals with her agoraphobic mother, still traumatized by the break-in after all these years, and her precocious seven-year-old daughter, Carly.

It's exactly that heady combination of steely courage and sensitivity that first attracts Duncan Swift to Phoebe. After watching her talk one of his employees off a roof ledge, he is committed to keeping this intriguing, take-charge woman in his life. Phoebe's used to working solo, but she's finding that no amount of negotiation can keep Duncan at arm's length.

When she's grabbed by a man who throws a hood over her head and brutally assaults her - in her own precinct house - Phoebe can't help being deeply shaken. And when threatening messages appear on her doorstep, she's not just alarmed but frustrated. How do you go face-to-face with an opponent who refuses to look you in the eye?

Now, with Duncan backing her up every step of the way, she must establish contact with the faceless tormentor who is determined to make her a hostage to fear - before she becomes the final showdown.

    "Excellent in every way!"

I don't usually take time to write reviews unless a book is really good or really bad. High Noon is a thrilling ride with a good mystery, a scary stalker, and a fun romance. The secondary characters were fully developed to add both humor and complexities to the main story line. Nora Roberts obviously did her research on negotiators because all of Phoebe's, the main character, actions on duty felt very real. Phoebe is a great woman with lots of talents but far from perfect with many dependent people in her life she uses as walls to keep others from getting close. Duncan comes along impressed by the woman and unwilling to look at the people in Phoebe's life as anything but a plus. His laid back charm hides a very smart guy with a heart of gold and a stubborn streak as wide as Phoebe's! If someone can't enjoy this story I think they don't like anything. Some people just like to write bad reviews.

The narrator did well. I always knew who was talking and had no trouble understanding what was said. When I listen to a book the best narrators are the ones I don't "hear". I am simply lost in enjoying the story. She did a great job at that.

    "Fabulous book! "

This is one of her best books. I had no idea who the villain was until the very end. It was a little slow to start but I preserved and then I couldn't put it down.

    "AMAZING!"
What did you love best about High Noon?

I loved all of the characters, each and every one of them. As usual Nora does such a great job with each one that by the end of the book you feel like you know them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of High Noon?

It kept you on the edge of your seat as you had no idea who the bad guy was. You thought you knew, but then it all changed and you realize Phoebe had some very bad luck.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She had a way of making each character unique and different. Each had their own accents and personalities that came out through her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No crying in this one but some super sweet moments.

    Any additional comments?

This is up there with my other favorite Nora book, "The Witness" I loved the story, the setting in Savannah, and the people in the book. I would love to see where there story went after the smoke cleared. :)

    "Phoebe and Eve Dallas"
Would you listen to High Noon again? Why?

Awesome - love Susan Erickson as narrator

What other book might you compare High Noon to and why?

Very similar to the Eve Dallas character in her series - only with a little girl

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

She is excellent and her manner and inflexions are great.

    "Negotiate a romance"

There's something quite comforting about Nora Roberts' books, after getting a few unknown doozies lately, I knew I could rely on a tame drama with some romance, yay!

Phoebe is a hostage negotiator trying to cope with a nightmare work colleague, a possible mole in the unit and an agorophobic mum. Good thing a hunka chunka appears on the scene!
