Publisher's Summary

When an early 1900s love story makes its way from revolutionary Russia to a small town in America, a young girl’s life begins to change. Clara Bradley moves from the city to a remote farming town in Eastern Washington—with nothing to offer a young cheerleader but miles of snow-covered wheat fields. She now has no cheer team and nothing to cheer about. But that move brings her an unusual neighbor: an elderly Russian woman who has a love story she is translating into English. Clara’s love of books draws the two together and she becomes immersed in the lives of Nina and Pasha.

"Nina sat beneath the tree, winding a bright yellow ribbon through her dark, shiny mane, then wove it all into a long, thick braid. Catching her reflection in the pond, she had to admit she felt pretty. As she filled glasses from a water pitcher, Pasha appeared in the orchard walking toward her. He was wearing a clean white tunic shirt contrasting his dark hair and tanned face. The instant his soft gaze caught Nina’s, her heart fluttered. For the first time, she had an acute awareness that Pasha was not her brother, or even her best friend. He was someone far more endearing."

Dawn’s Gentle Light transcends two Countries, two different time periods, and two hearts in need of friendship, hope, and the goodness of God.

Beautiful story for all ages

This book was not at all what I expected. I went into it thinking it would be a typical romance book but, I was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong! This book isn’t just a romance story, it’s a beautifully written story for all ages about love, kindness, friendship, loss, sadness, happiness, and just LIFE! It’s truly a hidden little gem! I will definitely be looking for more from this author. The narration is fabulous, too! I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Outstanding!!! I loved this book!

I absolutely loved this book!!! I wasn't familiar with the author or narrator prior to listening to this wonderful book, and will now add them to my one-click list. Both are extremely talented. This story was so much more than a historical romance. I loved the details and vivid imagery the author wrote. The narrator did an excellent job with the accents and distinguishable voices. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I thought this was a clean listen and age appropriate for most audiences.

Dawn's Gentle Light

A wonderfully sweet story within a story. Clara is not happy about her family's move to a small town. Circumstances allow her to befriend an old Russian woman and help her with a book she is writing. The story that is shared with her is life altering.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet Story

A pre-teen girl is upset because her family had to move to a different town. On top of that their new home is across an old cemetery. She becomes friends with a neighbor, who is an old Russian woman, and she now looks forward to visit her for tea after school to help her with the translation of interesting stories that the old lady’s dead husband wrote in Russian.

I also enjoyed the narration and the Russian vocabulary!

I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!

Unexpected Jewel

👰

Renée Riva really surprised me! For some reason, I was expecting the typical MOB (mail order bride) for some reason. However, this book is much deeper making the listener listen closely and think about each decision that is made or made for Clara. Nina shares her experiences with the young Clara.

Susan J Iannucci has a very smooth and comforting voice. I appreciated her voice performance.

Overall, this is not a lighthearted listen. It is something that really makes the listener think. It is a great book with a matching performance.

Beautiful story

This is the second book by Renee Riva that I have enjoyed. The story weaves between modern day and historic events, telling a Russian love story. I really liked the various characters and the settings were great too. I hoped for a happy ending in this book, but you will have to read it for yourself to find out if that happened or not.

Great performance on the audio as well.
I enjoyed and would recommend.

A well-wtitten story

This was a very good plot, and well-written. The reader has a beautifully clear voice and delivery; my only dissatisfaction was that sometimes I wanted her to hurry up because I wanted to know what was going to happen next!
I really liked how Renee Riva brought in so much of Orthodox Christianity's beauty, reverence, and real presence in the lives of her characters.
Finally, it was nice to have my suspicions confirmed regarding Pasha and Nina. 😊
I would definitely recommend this to a teen/young adult, or older person, I'm 51 and enjoyed hearing the story.
