Publisher's Summary

A dark storm is on the horizon.... Return to Christine Feehan’s “steamy and dreamy” (Publishers Weekly) world of her New York Times best-selling Carpathian novels as roiling passions collide in a perfect storm of dangerous desire that only a precious few can hope to outrun....

Awakening after all this time in a world of absolute darkness and oppressive heat, Dax wonders in how many ways the world above must have changed. But it is how he has changed that fills him with dread and loathing. Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in the Carpathian Mountains, Dax fears that he has become the full-fledged abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries.

But there are some things that never change.

His name is Mitro, the vampire Dax had hunted all these long centuries. Second in command to the prince of the Carpathian people he is the epitome of everything malevolent, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man - and beast. Even his friends and family weren’t safe from Mitro’s bloodlust. Neither was Mitro’s lifemate, Arabejila, an extraordinary woman with extraordinary gifts.

But now that Dax has re-emerged, so too has Mitro. The ultimate battle between good and evil has been re-engaged. Between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun - one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

    "Another Feehan Hit!!!!"

This book was well worth the wait, I believe this book is one of her best. The narrators did a wonderful job! The story is one that draws you in and keeps you wanting more and the narrators make the characters come to life. It's the perfect combination! All I can say is I love this book and I'm glad I went with my instincts, I'm glad I didn't get discouraged by bad reviews. I'm happy I took a chance and spent the credit, it was well worth it!!!!
Way to go Christine Feehan!!!!! I'll patiently wait for the next Dark Series Book.

    Story
    "Feels like home"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely, I have read ever book in this series, and the story seems to lead back to the original storyline. If you are a big fan of the Dark Series, this will remind you of Falcon and Sara's story, Traian and Joie or Dayan and Coriane. Where the lifemate recognize each other right away and they come together to defeat the vampire, and at the same time are very comfortable with each other and truely love each other. No violence to win them. One of my favorite in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The dragon was my favorite. Even as he was dying and giving a piece of himself to Dex he never gave up is spirit.

What about Erik Bergmann and Kristine Ryan ’s performance did you like?

Very good performance. I like that Feehan's uses both a female and male voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me laugh or cry, but it did make me feel that the storyline was going back to the original storyline.

    Any additional comments?

I was glad to see that Jasmine and Jubal were getting close. I also like all the interaction with the other characters.

    "A new story line"

I am trilled that Christine Feehan has introduced a new story line, touching on some old ones, with some new characters in this book. I can't wait to see where she goes next and hope that she expands this line in future books.

"Sexy, Sexy, Sexy Now, More, More Please!"

I have been waiting for this book for a long time. I was totally excited to download this one. Sometimes when the anticipation is high you get a little let down. It did not happen this time. I have all the books in the Dark series. One thing that I like about Feehan’s books is that she knows how to work in adventure, drama, and still have those hot sexy moments. I fell in love with the story of Dax and Riley. Now for the die heart Dark series fans like me…Feehan sheds more light into the mystery of why the Carpathian women have such a hard time with child birth, she introduces several intriguing missing elements, which just happens to make one of my favorite love scenes in the book. Believe me, you will never thing of flowers the same way again. It took me a while to write this review because sometimes I like to listen to the good ones twice. This was a good one!

"GREAT!!! Christine Does it Again w/this Series"

Christine Does it Again w/the Carpathian Series. I've been waiting almost 2 1/2 years for her to write the next series w/the Carpathains and it was worth the wait. The Narrators did a great job as well! Christine Feehan always (in my opinion) writes a good book and I really hope I don't have to wait long before she continues with the Carpathians or Leapords series.

"Another worthy addition to the Carpathian series"

I am a huge C.F. fan and have listened to most of her books available on Audible including this series which have all been brilliant from book 1 - so if you haven't listened to any others in the series then I suggest you start there and work your way up to this book otherwise you will miss so much about the Carpathian's.

Dark Storm was enjoyable, entertaining and had some really tense moments, it will have your interest from the start. I did however, find it a bit gloomy and slightly depressing, coupled with this, Riley and Dax fell in love from the very first moment they saw each other which wasn't until quite a long way into the first half therefore there was no 'drama' to their romance at all. So unfortunately, for those reasons, I would have to say that this is my least favourite out the entire series.

Worth of credit? Yes definitely, but I would just have liked a 'pinch' of something more to have been able to give it 5 stars.

"Very good story and addition to the series :)"

    4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked both Dax and Riley and enjoyed their story.

Riley is a language expert that has a natural skill at languages. Riley father died right before the book began and her and her mother were left on their own. Every 5 years, Riley and her mother go to Peru to perform a ceremony on a volcano. It's something that the women in their family have been doing for centuries but Riley never realized that there was a very immportant reason for doing it.

Dax is an ancient Carpathian male; Carpathians are born vampires with abilities like shape shifting (to any form, even mist), magic spells and psychic powers. The males of the Carpathians have a darkness in them and if they don't find their lifemates, they can lose their souls and become evil. Dax is more ancient than most and was focused on trying to kill a clever vampire named Mitro. He was unable to kill him so Dax was imprisoned in a volcano with Mitro to keep him trapped and hopefully kill him.

Because of Riley's father dying, her and her mother's 5 year trip to Peru is delayed. When they do get to Peru, it seems like everything that can go wrong, does go wrong in order to delay them further. Riley and her mother run into some major issues as they make their way to the volcano and might not have made it at all if it wasn't for some unexpected help from Gary and Jubal. Gary and Jubal happen to be in the area looking for a flower that could help the Carpathian people. They don't know Riley and her mother but have the feeling that they should help them so they do. Despite Riley and her mother's efforts, they don't make it in time and the volcano erupts and Mitro escapes with Dax hot on his heels.

Once out, Mitro is able to escape Dax but Dax runs into Riley, Gary and Jubal. He realizes right away that Riley is his lifemate and he also figures out that Gary and Jubal are friends to the Carpathians...which is lucky because Dax could use the help, not only with the hunt but also with learning all that he's missed by being trapped underground for centuries. Gary and Jubal also help Riley to understand that Dax is good and trustworthy which helps her to accept him and not fight the strong attraction between them. The romance actually goes pretty well but there's some major issues as they try finding Mitro. Mitro is a big bad that is a bit unusual from the normal vampires in this series and it had me somewhat flummoxed...thankfully, Dax and company were able to figure out how to take Mitro out, leaving Dax and Riley free to start on their HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. Riley was a really good heroine and I liked her (maybe almost too perfect but not in an annoying way, LOL). Dax was a pretty good hero...I especially liked the "something special" he left the cave with. Overall, this was a very good story with likable characters so I'd recommend it. :)

    "Tropical Trouble and Steamy Saviors"

I really enjoyed the story line, proof that finding love can happen at the most unusual time. The way Christine always pulls her characters together and makes the new additions feel like part of the family you know and love is remarkable. I also really enjoyed the narrators, they truly bring the characters to life. I sincerely hope to hear about Dax and Riley in the future. Even if you have not read any other books in the series, it is still worth the read. I originally started with the Dark Slayer (because I picked it up at the airport) and then decided I needed to start at the beginning.
