Publisher's summary

Why does the allegiance that radical terrorists give to their false cause exceed the allegiance that most Christians today give to Jesus Christ? In Insurgence, best-selling author Frank Viola presents a radical proposal for Christians. Namely, that we have lost the explosive, earthshaking gospel of the kingdom that Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles preached. Viola argues that we've lost this dynamic, titanic, living gospel and exchanged it for a gospel of religious duty or permissiveness and "easy believism." In today's politically charged era, Christians on the progressive left as well as the conservative right both equate their particular viewpoints with the kingdom of God. Viola challenges and dismantles these perspectives, offering a fresh and revolutionary look at the gospel of the kingdom. Viola writes with gripping power, challenging Christians to embrace an unparalleled allegiance to Jesus Christ and his kingdom. This high-octane message is being reclaimed today, launching a spiritual insurgence.

Great Book.

It is hard to listen to a theology book and not be reactionary. If you are a person who does not have a background in Kingdom Theology. This book is a must. Viola does a great job of unpacking Kingdom Theology and what it means theologically and practically. Very easy to understand and follow. My only complaint is there are spurts where I can not fully agree with his conclusions. But overall I would agree with roughly 90% of what is proposed in this book. He offers insights and links to multiple articles and resources to help better equip you to be a part of the "Insurgence" - which is basically a person who sees Jesus as King and lives accordingly. Definitely a good book to jump in on and get a B12 shot of early church practice and devotion. If your Christian walk is feeling really bland and lifeless, get this book and get new vision of who Jesus is and what He is calling you to. Much Love.

a Callout to the status quo of this Present Age !

The message of the Insurance will most definitely callout and challenge the status quo of this present age, this combined with the Master Class (Everlasting Domain: Restoring the Kingdom Message) has shaken me a lot just after listening to the MC, I was emotionally drained because of all the crying then came the book and it all started over again….no place to hide. It exposed a lot of things in my life and I am still busy working thru them.

The practical “Taking Action” part of the book is really ingenious, apart from the Message of the kingdom which is explained and expanded so clearly.

Personally I am doing quite a bit of “Restitution of what is Stolen” mostly items which I forgot about, in one case I am paying back a large amount of money.

Re my Work, I have abandoned the desire to “Progress” in Status or Monetary value, if the position should change then I want more time for the Kingdom.

Re Idols, I am questioning everything we own. I have asked the Lord to put his finger on the things that are smothering his Life to my surprise the Lord responded by showing me that the seed within in me is not growing effectively because I fall way in the day of trouble and persecution. The message “The Ultimate Issue” (Audio Supplement to the book) expanded this further, it’s very difficult to loose and not fight back when a brother points his finger at you but gaining an instinct for the Cross is the high road to take….what a valuable pointer.

As stated, the linchpin of the Kingdom is to learn by Living by the indwelling Christ corporately. I only know of 1 person that will perhaps join me. Some days I wake up and feel this is truly impossible why someone would want to do this, if I must be brutally honest if the Lord did not show me many years ago that he dwelled in me I would have perhaps given up completely.

Amazing insight! Turn On My Spiritual Afterburners

Saved and baptized 55 years ago; intentionally following the Lord for the past 40 years. I've been an unintentioan Legalist / Shade 4 and unfortunately raised my four children ( who are now grown and all serving the Lord everyday) in that environment, bringing heartache into their lives and others. Frank's book is teaching me and correcting me, and I look forward to a New Perspective and relationship with those around me. I'm telling all of my children, my pastors and everyone in our small group, and church acquaintances about the impact of this book on my life.

Eye opening!

So many of the things that I had only seen a glimpse of are made so much clearer. This is truly revolutionary in the timeless message of Christ.

One of the most important books of our time.

This book is one of the most important books I have ever read. It’s one of those books that I will read again and again. The author Frank Viola has been given a great spiritual gift. He is able to lead us safely through some of the foggy paths that run through the Bible. I suppose that’s why many of his writings start out with the word “Rediscovering”. In this book Frank shows us how to rediscover the true but mostly lost gospel and how it signals the end of legalism and libertinism in the life of a believer. The end results in a drawing together of all true believers into the unstoppable force and movement on this planet known as the body of Christ.

grains of salt are needed to find the gold

Frank has some really beautiful statements that could truly realign the church to its "first love" purposes. However, he lost me in the altar sacrifice parts where his description of a life of sacrifice sounds a lot more like Buddhism (absolute self removal and denial of all self) than Biblical Christianity based in the heart of God revealed in Jesus. Perhaps his wording caused me to lose his message. Maybe he was not trying to use such blanket statement "one size fits all" rhetoric. Don't let this sway you from reading though. The bulk of the book is very good.

This book has been a true life-changer for me!

I read this book last summer, and man, the gospel presented here resonated with my heart mightily. I was enabled by Jesus to break free from what had become a victim mentality and lack of action on my part. I now understand evermore so that the Lord of all creation wants me, will never leave me, and that he is holding on to me in the jealous grip of his nail-scarred hands.

I get to live a life of joyful gratitude and service even when my medical condition seems to be an obstacle. Instead of playing the victim, my illness is a reminder of the grace of God active in my life. Had it not been for my illness I would have never realized my need for Jesus. The enemy meant it for harm. God intended it for good. Now I get to be there for others who are struggling and be used of God to bring healing to those around me.

Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so. And I get to let others know of the hope found solely and uniquely in the gospel of the Kingdom of God where weakness is power, humility is strength, love is currency, and Jesus "who owns and loves us" is King and YHWH. Read Insurgence and you'll be encouraged and challenged to plow deeper into God without hesitation.
