Publisher's Summary

Samantha, a feisty private investigator, knows how to handle herself around cheaters, liars, and thieves, but vampires? That's another story.

During a routine investigation, Samantha's seemingly ordinary life is turned upside down when she crosses paths with a mysterious vampire. Adam's as terrifying as he is alluring.

His attention towards Samantha inadvertently draws the eye of a notoriously dangerous creature of the night. She doesn't trust Adam, but he may be her only hope of staying alive. Or is he?

Sam's shy but attractive neighbor is hiding dark secrets of his own. Gabriel knows more about vampires than a mild-mannered professor should, but who is Gabriel Devereux, really?

The clock is running out for Sam to save herself and those closest to her, but can she survive a game played by beautiful monsters, without becoming one?

5 Fangs Up! 👍

I fell in love with this book when I read it, but the audiobook took it to a higher level. Natalie Naudus did a wonderful job narrating and making sure the audiobook was elevated for a different experience from in print.

This is the type of paranormal series that makes me excited and anxious for the next audiobook to hurry up and come out.

Great story!!

What a fun read!

In today’s world, there are more vampires than there are stories to tell about vampires. Thus, it is increasingly difficult to find fresh and unique reads. R.K. Close has done a wonderful job of giving us just that.

Samantha is funny and intense and, yet, she isn’t hard and closed off like so many other female characters are presented. She’s strong and her strength is apparent through the whole book.

This was a pleasure to read and the narrator was very good. I look forward to more!

Loved Red Night!

Wow, I’m very glad I gave this book a try. Red Night was a wonderful combination of romance, suspense and humor. The story moved at a good pace and characters were very likable. Within a few page I was quickly immersed in the world Mrs. Close created and before I knew the book was over.
Natalie Naudus did an excellent job narrating the story. Her performance is well paced and her voices are easily distinguishable between characters. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by Natalie Naudus.
I can’t wait to start Red Moon, the second book of this series.

Fantastic!!

First I want to say that the story was well developed with great characters. Samantha was a fun character who was strong and funny at times and I loved her attitude. Adam was also a fantastic character who had great chemistry with Sam. Secondary characters were also well developed and I loved Gabriel. The story itself has some mystery, lots of action some humor and some steamy scenes all with a paranormal theme with vampires. I loved it!! Next O have to say that this narrator was outstanding! Natalie brought this book to life and was a pleasure to listen to. I would highly recommend this book.

Love this take on Vamps!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am so glad I found RK Close's Red Night! I did not want the story to end and can not wait to start the next one. Sam stumbles on to the supernatural and has a fight for her life. You will not be disappointed with the book. I want my own Adam.

What does Natalie Naudus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Was so nice just being able to close my eyes and feel like I was there in the story.

Not your typical vampire story

Wow, what a great story. I absolutely loved the characters. R.K. Close has come up with a very unique storyline.

The book can certainly be enjoyed as a stand-alone, however there is a great setup for the series to continue, and I’m looking forward to the next book.

Natalie Naudus did a fantastic job with the narration.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Great Read

Red Night by R.K. Close is the first book in the Vampire Files Trilogy. It was a great read. Samantha is a detective and meets the equally sexy and mysterious Adam. She suddenly learns that not only are vampires real, but many things aren't as they seem. I loved reading Samantha's story and can't wait to read more in this series.

TEAM ADAM!

RED NIGHT is the first book in the Vampire Files Trilogy. They do need to be read in the order of release.

I have to separate the story from the narrator… that took me some thinking time.

The narration was good. First I’ll tell you all of the bad: I have the feeling Ms. Naudus shared the same cute lisp as Cindy Brady had when she was a child; there is a remnant remaining. She’s also a “g-dropper” – goin’, doin’, catchin’, etc. I have at times said I would read a grocery list if written by my favorite author. This narration was like listening to that grocery list and each sentence was an item to be purchased – separate and flat. (I would recommend a coach, such as YourVoiceProfessor). Still, I say it was a good narration, because I could understand every word that was said, even if cut off, and I didn’t lose track of the storyline.

The story, on the other hand, I loved.

Let’s start with the two vampires: Adam and Zachariah. As far apart in personalities as A is from Z. Never forget that they are vampires, but Zachariah is also a sociopath! Samantha, aka “Sam” is equal parts silly and serious, which I can totally relate to as a constant state of being. Rounding out the team is Gabriel – another sexy man intent on claiming Sam’s heart.

I got the definite feeling that there was a parallel to Buffy – with Gabe as Miles, Adam as Angel, and Zachariah as all of the bad guys rolled into one sexy package. Her BFF, Dayna, will have to take on the role of the Scoobies.

It’s hard to believe this is a first release for this author. I thought the story was very well organized, presented, and written. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing and occupied, especially since I’m an audiobook reader just trying to keep the miles going.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

#TeamAdam ... though I'm admittedly usually #teamVampire for any triangle hehehe.

First time Vampire audio book listener, very very

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I don't have too many friends who read vampire books; however, ever since Twilight came out and I began my foray (addiction) for romance books/audio books, this is the first vampire book I've "read." I was incredibly impressed with the plot line, the characters, and most especially the talented narrator's ability to so easily blend into each character, both male and female. If I have a friend who is interested in this genre, I would recommend the audiobook.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Since the narrator's ability to clearly use the multiple character voices so specifically, it was easy to determine who was speaking. My favorites bounced back and forth between Gabe and Adam, although Zachary's accent was quite enchanting. Gabe was just so tender and caring for Samantha. Adam was a close second but Gabe's sweetness stuck out.

Which character – as performed by Natalie Naudus – was your favorite?

She was amazing with her character voices. You could so clearly tell who was speaking by the inflections, accents, and tones. I think Samantha was so well done by Natalie. Her speaking and thought process were so clearly delineated, and her humor came through very well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not an extreme reaction, just a pleasant one. Although it was a "fantasy" book, which is not my preferred genre, it was pleasant to experience the fantasy events through Samantha's voice and eyes.

Any additional comments?

This Audible was generously provided to me by the author, and I am happy to offer my review. I often listen to audio books when I lay down at night, so it takes several sessions to get all the way through. I often have to backtrack quite a bit. This was so pleasant to listen to that I made it through in just 3-4 nights of listening.
