Story
Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

Publisher's Summary
I didn't just wake up one day understanding how to take care of myself. I had to learn how to do so over time, and I continue to learn - each and every day. This is a process, and my body is constantly changing. So is yours. And when I learned how to accept that I will always be like this, I relaxed. Our bodies do not stand still for time.
When you understand yourself and connect to how you can become body smart, you realize pretty quickly that the perfect, the ideal, is not the goal. Instead, the goal is feeling good in your body. That's what leads to confidence, to feeling and looking fit and being pretty happy. Doesn't that sound great? I think so!
In almost every interview she gives, Kate Hudson is asked the same questions: What do you eat? How do you stay so fit? What workout do you do? What's your secret? Well, the secret is that the sound bites the media loves so much don't tell the story, and the steps you need to take to have a healthy, vibrant, and happy life can't be captured in a short interview. The key to living well and healthy is to plug in to what your body needs, understanding that one size does not fit all all the time and being truly honest with yourself about your goals and desires.
Like everyone else, Kate is constantly on the move, with a life full of work, family, responsibilities, and relationships. In Pretty Happy, Kate shows how she honors her relationship with herself through exercise, making the right choices about what she eats, and constantly going back to the drawing board and starting fresh instead of holding herself to unrealistic standards of perfection and giving up when she falls short. Focusing on the Four Pillars of Health to enhance well-being, Pretty Happy shows the benefits of:
- Cultivating an intuitive relationship with your body
- Eating well
- Awakening your body through movement
- The miracle of mindfulness
Full of questionnaires to help you assess your body type and your stress levels, advice about cleanses and keeping your diet and body balanced, and plenty of interactive drawing-board exercises, Pretty Happy is a beautiful, insightful, and personal look at health from the inside out, an authentic plan for an authentic life from a woman who truly lives what she speaks.

Information to basic if you are health concious
Would you try another book from Kate Hudson and/or Kate Hudson?
no
What do you think your next listen will be?
not sure
Did Pretty Happy inspire you to do anything?
yes.
Any additional comments?
This book was somewhat enjoyable to listen to, but if you are not just getting interested in health and wellness, it will probably be too basic. She lightly touches on a variety of things such as food, meditation and mindfulness, and excercise. While I agree with most of her opinions whole heartedly, it was just such basic info that I didn't get too much out of it (being an active, healthy eater, already health consious individual). If you really want to learn about food and how it effects your body, I would recommend Cameron Diaz's The Body Book. If you really want to learn about mindfulness and meditation? plenty of other much more in depth books. Try 10 Percent Happier. I did enjoy the section on Doshas as I did not know much about that, and I did think her performance was great. The PDF is somewhat helpful, although I feel like it was disjointed and not proof read enough, the results it gives you for the stress quiz CAN NOT be right.

Worth a listen!
Kate gives great wisdom and tips for bringing balance to your life. Mentally and physically. It's not revolutionary or fix all, which is why I love it. She mentions what she's tried, works for her, and gives you lots of tools to find what works for you. And most importantly to love you.
I already love Kate Hudson, so I loved that she narrated. She's relatable. She's busy, she's a mom, and she's trying to find peace with herself to enjoy it all. Something I'm going to work on.
I'm already a bit of a health nut, but this still gave me some really good pointers. Meditation is something I will try after reading this too.
Definitely worth listening too. Plug it in while you take a walk or do the dishes.

I appreciate her enthusiasm for this book however it was pretty basic for a book's topic on being pretty happy. She goes into detail explaining her own personal experiences on finding happiness. It's not really a book I would recommend for self help if that is what you're looking for.

What one needs will come to them if they are open
What made the experience of listening to Pretty Happy the most enjoyable?
Love that Kate read this herself. Its easy to listen to, down to earth and believe it or not, its practical. Her insights are spot on for me....it is exactly what I am looking for, and what I needed....and likely will be every time I need to go back to the drawing board to reassess.
What did you like best about this story?
1. The drawing board theory. I'm a creative and its often difficult to harness ideas and feelings for reference. The concept works in my mind.
2. Self care is almost foreign to me. Some of the best of me is the worst for me and its a challenge to maneuver through it when what (all) that I'm doing, attempting or feel responsible for, isn't healthy. She gets it...and she, like me, loves her go to guru, her mom.Its a joy to hear her, the daughter of the "laugh-in" silly girl (Goldie Hawn), find such wisdom with grace. I loved this. PS I never review books, that's how much I loved it.
Have you listened to any of Kate Hudson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
nope
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes it was, and I got through it in two.
Any additional comments?
Why don't they sell an affordable package of an audio book and the paperback so while I listen I can have reference and note potential? No need for me to buy the book twice, now really. Smarter marketing would package the deal. I'd buy it.

Just enough depth and lightness
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I was pretty concerned that a celebrity telling me to be mindful was going to be eye-roll-worthy experience. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. Hudson provides just enough information to ground what she says, but balances it with a lightness that feels more a casual chat with a friend than a new age lecture. It focuses on her own experience, so some of the personality traits won't apply to all of us, but the bigger concepts still ring true. Thought provoking and enjoyable.

Great Read for the subject Matter
what i loved about this book is that Kate gave HER version of well being. It's so refreshing to actually get insight from a person whom you can tell it actually worked for them. i gave her top stars for delivering exactly what she promises.
As from a content point of view? again its information which we already know but here its from a celebrity we so well love.
