Publisher's summary

In the town of Charming, Alaska, shifters are dying in mysterious ways. It's up to one woman to set things right. In a world full of supernatural, will her lack of magical abilities let her and the town down?

Red Mountainbear, a blowhard, money-grubbing conservative from Fairbanks, wants to take over leadership of the town of Charming, Alaska. Town manager Chia is determined to solve the mystery, protect the shifters, and save her town. Hindered by her vampire roommate, helped by her Husky dog shape shifter best friend, Chia has more than a few challenges ahead. And then, romantic possibilities arrive in the form of a very sexy bounty hunter.

When Hung Durand, ultra-sexy bounty hunter and shape shifter extraordinaire, comes to town, with romance on his mind, Chia's distracted from her focus. His tantalizing presence makes her adherence to rules vaporize as she contemplates shameless, naughty acts with the outlaw.

Will Chia lose her town to those with dollar signs clouding their judgment, or will her undeniable, wanton attraction to Hung distract her efforts? Or, worse yet, will her vampire roommate take his crazy pranks too far, resulting in her untimely death? Find out in this dark fantasy with a vampire bite fans are favorably comparing to the Sookie Stackhouse series.

book 2

So, this was book 2 in the Charming Shifter Mystery Series and it left me a little confused. The biggest question for me was how the dynamic between Chia and her bestie Cecil changed in this book. The comedic banter between the two was gone for the most part. It may be partially due to the narration which was not my favorite - I found the narrator could have done this read more - IDK how it's written in the actually book but it seems that the word ask was said as ax in multiple places (that is such a pet peeve of mine and may not bother others). I thought that some of the speech was stilted and choppy, especially for D who was a great character in the first book and I think I still like him but it was just really hard with this narration. What I did love was how the story line dug deeper into Chia's parents and grandparents and the mystical that surrounds her. I also loved that we found out how Hung got his name and would love to know more about his past. I also loved the conclusion which gave great closure to the twists within and also left enough open to make you excited for book 3.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Shifter Territory

Wonderfully written and narrated. Multi different breed of shape shifters all getting along. Even a white owl. When when it was discovered was not Hung unless I missed it was never revealed I believe it was her grandfather. Deranged the vamp that lives in her basement I love that man..
I absolutely love shifter stories and with all the hot sexual desires and great multitude of shifters made this book one of my all time favorite stories.

so I have started the series on book three and have listened to book 5 coming back to this book. So learning more about what happened makes more sense. I do need to start with book 1 and relisten to the rest; but overall it seems like a decent series.

Charming, Alaska where Paranormal Happens

Power Shift: Hunting the Bounty Hunter beneath Haunted Alaska Skies starts with a hostile power takeover by Red Mountainbear. Chia Petite who has been the town manger, has kept the peace in small town, Charming, Alaska between normal humans and shifters for quite awhile. The only fault is that Chia has tied the town with all her rules that there are no rooms to make exception when self-defense is difficult to prove.

Red and his partner Dick have Chia cornered with Hung Durand, bounty hunter/shifter, accused of several criminal acts and attempted murder. It was also the perfect way to forced Chia's hands in resigning her position of town manager.

If it isn't bad enough Chia has a thing for Hung Durand. She doesn't know whether to sleep with him or kill him. With her rules, she couldn't self-indulged her extra-circular activities to have a one-night stand or even an affair with him.

With the help from her prank-playing vampire roommate and her dog shapeshifter friend, Chia is in for a showdown of who will end up being the town manager. Chia also have her six stupid ghosts that are always haunting her, helped her out as well.

Power Shift has colorful characters. I love the the bantering between Chia and Hung. Hung also seemed to get the drop of Chia but with his protectiveness of her, Chia always ended up in lust for him. The readers/listeners will have to read this book just to get the full characterization of each others.

There is also a lesson involved in this story which Chia has learned. In her effort to keep the town safe and peaceful, Chia and her rules allow no room for flexibility when the rules applying to the situation no longer works. This allows interlopers to use their influences to corrupt the system.

The narrator Dana Le Voz does an excellent job of narrating the story. The narrator makes Chia cute and adorable with the no nonsense, kick-ass attitude. Hung is a total alpha hero, who really tells Chia his opinions of her. He is intelligent and direct to the point. The story isn't over so I do hope that the narrator will come back for the next adventure of Chia, Hung, and their fun-loving friends.

Interesting Storyline

This is the second book in The Charming Shifter Mysteries Series. The characters are interesting, and the storyline is complex, with a great world building. Dana La Voz did a good job with the narration.

Love my Paranormal Books

Would you listen to Power Shift: Hunting the Bounty Hunter Beneath Haunted Alaska Skies again? Why?

No. I have way too many books I have yet to read to reread any books.

What other book might you compare Power Shift: Hunting the Bounty Hunter Beneath Haunted Alaska Skies to and why?

Since I read many authors of paranormal books, I can see similar traits in this book. Some might be Jennifer Ashley, Nina Bangs, Michele Bardsley, Rhyannon Byrd, Dakota Cassidy, MaryJanice Davidson, and Christina Dodd, just to name a few. I like the fact of secrecy of paranormal with a little woo woo thrown in.

What does Dana La Voz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

When I read a book, I miss what I would enjoy in the different timbre of voices that I would hear if I read it as an audio book. It really adds to the picture of the characters in my mind.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, sorry but I usually never laugh or cry while listening or reading a book. I am more of a visual person.

Any additional comments?

Great story and new paranormal traits.
