Publisher's summary

Pathological mind games. Covert and overt put-downs. Triangulation. Gaslighting. Projection. These are the manipulative tactics survivors of malignant narcissists are unfortunately all too familiar with. As victims of silent crimes where the perpetrators are rarely held accountable, survivors of narcissistic abuse have lived in a war zone of epic proportions, enduring an abuse cycle of love-bombing and devaluation - psychological violence on steroids. From how to heal our addiction to the narcissist to how to recognize a covert narcissist, Shahida Arabi's articles on narcissistic abuse have gained renown as some of the most accurate and in-depth depictions of this terrifying trauma, resonating with millions of survivors all over the world and receiving endorsements from numerous mental health professionals. In this essay compilation, listeners can enjoy some of her most popular articles as well as new thought pieces on narcissistic abuse: what therapists have to say about malignant narcissists and how children of narcissistic parents can become trapped in the trauma repetition cycle. Survivors are offered new insights on what it means to be both a survivor and a thriver of covert manipulation and trauma. Power teaches us that it is important to not only understand the tactics of toxic personalities but also to recognize and combat the effects of narcissistic abuse; it guides the survivor to learning, growing, healing and most importantly of all - owning their agency to rebuild their lives and transform their powerlessness into victory.

A “Powerful” book

I heard so much confirmation of what I was going through my whole life, including now. Even things I had previously only thought in my own head as a contrary response to a couple things other narcissistic abuse experts have said. It’s an extremely affirming, uplifting and emotionally supportive book, I highly recommend it. In fact, after a bit of time passes to allow what I am processing from it to fully absorb, I will re-listen to it in order to absorb more of the caring and loving support and information it provides that I was not able to absorb in and process all at one time.

Horrible performer

The story is gripping but the reader sounds like a bot. The voice is distracting.

Book content is incredible IF....

Book is incredible IF you can get past a computerized/automated female voice reading! So annoying and distracting! I couldn’t endure it. I got a refund and bought the print version. Such a shame that I couldn’t listen....

100% Validation

This is the most spot on description of what I survived. This has helped my healing/recovery in so many ways. It helps my emotions catch up to my intellectual understanding of this abuse. Invaluable resource used in conjunction with traditional therapy and alternative modalities that develop self-soothing and self-love. Thank you a million times!

Eye opening

This author touches on words and explanations that make so much sense to someone who has lived with someone that expressed this behavior. Made things that happened understandable.

Lacks substance.

This book promises understanding but lacks the substance to bring to light the subject matter. It is filled with mixed metaphors and blanket statements that sound like a snake oil salesman who offers a cure for all ills, but ultimately cures nothing.

A Male Listener

A comprehensive, compassionate, and highly instructive work. The performance ranks second to none. The content was gender-neutral enough to be valuable to both men and women.

I intend to listen again soon to allow the author's expert discussion of this important subject to really sink in.

I was dumb and didn't listen to the sample before I picked this audible book with my 1 free credit. I can listen to this robotic performance at all.
