Publisher's summary

The heart always knows.

Lando:

My muse is gone, and I haven’t written a word of music in more than a year. Every time I close my eyes, all I can see is Dawson. Nine years ago, just before Downward Spiral’s first major tour, I met my soul mate, and then I walked away. Now that I’ve finally tracked him down again, things have changed. I’ll have to make him fall for me all over again. But is it possible I put our single weekend together on a pedestal, or could Dawson really be the one?

Dawson:

A traumatic brain injury nine years ago left me deaf and with spotty memory of the first 20 years of my life. When one of the biggest rock stars in the world shows up and seems to know me, I’m not sure what to believe. Is it possible he’s telling the truth when he says he’s been in love with me for nine years, even if I can’t remember ever meeting him?

Play It by Ear is the second audiobook in the Replay series. Each audiobook in the series will focus on a different band member getting a second chance at love. Each audiobook can be listened to as a stand-alone.

So good!

Second chances just seem to mean more...Dawson and Lando deserved to find each other again because they had both suffered enough. Mr. Obi once again did an amazing job bringing these characters to life!! Love this series!

I loved the book when I read it, and the way Kenneth Obi brought it to life was awesome! I sometimes have a hard time with getting into audio books but this was top notch. I can't wait to listen to more!

Enjoyable book

I really like this series, but really am still not a fan of the narrator. He slips out of character and it makes it hard to follow sometimes. That being said I will listen to the next in the series.

Lost love found

This is book 2 in the Replay series and should be listened to in order.

As usually Kenneth Obi has done an outstanding job with his narration.

I love the concept of this book - its it a bit unrealistic - yes but its a lovely idea and I think this story arc is perfect for Lando and Dawson.

I loved it.

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the 2 narrators (so far), I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

Loved It!

This was a great continuation of the guys from Downward Spiral. Lando and Dawson are a fun twist on a second chance romance. The narration by Kenneth Obi is fantastic, capturing the guys perfectly. I really appreciated that he accounted for Dawson's hearing loss and rarely used voice.

love it!

Lando is a Rockstar but his band is in trouble. The members are falling due to their own demons, the tension is too thick, and there are no words coming, no new songs being written. His muse is missing. Most of his songs are about a man he shared a weekend with once, the man he still craves. When the band takes a break, Lando goes to Florida hoping to find his muse again.
Dawson can not remember Lando when they meet again. The day they parted a decade ago, he was is a major accident that stole not only his hearing but some of his memories... Including the weekend he had with Lando. But now they have another chance to see if they can work... If the muse is back.

Lando and Dawson are sexy, sweet, fun and perfect! Definitely recommend.

Kenneth Obi does an amazing job bring the story to the audiobook audience. the characters and story come to life and really grab you. great job!

Entertaining although not very realistic

3.5 Stars. I really loved the first book and I really enjoyed the second although obviously not quite as much as the first. Be prepared to suspend your sense of disbelief for this book - it's VERY sweet with not a lot of angst and the premise is just a bit unbelievable.

Lando is a rock star but he's obsessed with Dawson who he had an amazing weekend with 9 years ago before the band really hit it big. First off I have a hard time believing he would be obsessed with someone for 9 years who he only spent a weekend with and then would do nothing to track the guy down. At the very least you'd think he'd look him up on social media just to find out about him. (Come on we all do it so I bet Lando would to). At least Dawson has no memory of the weekend due to the car accident he was in that caused him to lose his hearing. I enjoyed the flashbacks (which I don't always like in books) but again these two were practically ready to spend their lives together after one weekend - a bit too instant for me. Then of course there is the idea that the two of them end up in the same bar, in the same place they met 9 years later. But again I was willing to just go with it and when I did what I had was a very sweet, entertaining romance with two characters that I very much liked and wanted to see happy with each other. I loved watching Lando get Dawson to fall for him again.

As for the audio it wasn't bad - not one of my favorite audio performances but I enjoyed the narration. The only thing that bothered me a little was Dawson's voice - he wasn't deaf for the first 20 some odd years of his life so I don't think his pronouncement would have been as off as it sounded in the book - he sounded more like someone who was born deaf but that's a fairly minor quibble.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.

Great book

I loved it. Kenneth Obi brought the story to life perfectly. Lando finds the perfect man he spent an unforgettable weekend with...only Dawson did. Dawson not only lost parts of his memory, including the last year of his life but his hearing. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles?
