Publisher's Summary

Ten years ago, Peter Pan left Neverland to grow up, leaving behind his adolescent dreams of boyhood and resigning himself to life as Wendy Darling. Growing up, however, has only made him realize how inescapable his identity as a man is. But when he returns to Neverland, everything has changed: the Lost Boys have become men, and the war games they once played are now real and deadly. Even more shocking is the attraction Peter never knew he could feel for his old rival, Captain Hook - and the realization that he no longer knows which of them is the real villain.

Lovely Tale!

Not a re-telling of Peter Pan, more a version of what it coulda been. I loved the creativity behind the story, and the spin Austin Chant puts on the characters - all beautifully unique and very personal.

My heart broke a few times, both for Peter - the way the dad treated him, and how stuck he was in his situation at home. And for James - soooo sad (and I'm not going to spoil it here).

Chant paints a vivid picture of Never Land and all the creatures who inhabit it, and the story is faced paced and fun.

Highly recommend.

Unfortunately I was locked into the audiobook since I owned it, the narrator wasn't my cuppa - but maybe that's his style, and maybe that's what they were going for?

All I knew about this book was it was a Peter Pan retelling

And Oh My God it’s so much more and so amazing. The narrator is perfect. The story telling is heart breaking/ warming. I couldn’t ask for more.

An Enchanting Story

I read Peter Darling before listening to the audio book version as I often do with stories I want to revisit again. I found it just as enchanting as it was in print. Hearing my favorite passages voiced gave me the same goosebumps the second time around. My issue with audio books is, as I enjoy reading aloud, I have a set pacing and inflection for certain passages that the narrator doesn't always interpret as I would. This can draw me out of the story as I debate with myself about the correct delivery. However, not being an expert on London dialects or pirates, let alone fairies, I will defer to this narrator and all in all I enjoyed his performance.

A new favourite

Almost as soon as I finished listening to this book, I started it all over again. Chant has given his Peter and Hook such rich depth that this story stands unique over the great many Peter Pan retellings in the world. On a personal level books with such excellent LGBT representation are hard to come by and I was so thrilled to find that representation, written so naturally and so sensitively, here that I’ve been in the best mood I have been in months since finishing it. Do yourself a favour and download this book! 💚
