Publisher's summary

*AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*

"This novel will be remembered as one of the best thrillers of the year." --Associated Press

"A shocking stunner in every way. The perfect thriller." --Robert Crais

When darkness closes in - he's your last, best hope. Evan Smoak returns in Gregg Hurwitz’s #1 international bestselling Orphan X series in Out of the Dark.

Taken from a group home at age twelve, Evan Smoak was raised and trained as part of the Orphan Program, an off-the-books operation designed to create deniable intelligence assets - i.e. assassins. Evan was Orphan X. He broke with the Program, using everything he learned to disappear and reinvent himself as the Nowhere Man, a man who helps the truly desperate when no one else can. But now Evan's past is catching up to him.

Someone at the very highest level of government has been trying to eliminate every trace of the Orphan Program by killing all the remaining Orphans and their trainers. After Evan's mentor and the only father he ever knew was killed, he decided to strike back. His target is the man who started the Program and who is now the most heavily guarded person in the world: the President of the United States.

But President Bennett knows that Orphan X is after him and, using weapons of his own, he's decided to counter-attack. Bennett activates the one man who has the skills and experience to track down and take out Orphan X - the first recruit of the Program, Orphan A.

With Evan devoting all his skills, resources, and intelligence to find a way through the layers of security that surround the President, suddenly he also has to protect himself against the deadliest of opponents. It's Orphan vs. Orphan with the future of the country - even the world - on the line.

Outstanding

Legitimately one of the best series of books I’ve read. I can’t express plainly enough how incredible this book is. So simply enough, read it, you won’t be disappointed in the slightest!

Brick and Hurwitz—A match made in heaven

I have said before, and the orphan x series is no exception, that Gregg Hurwitz is absolutely one of my favorite authors. I love his style and his characters with all their flaws and vulnerabilities. Having Brick as narrator just makes it perfect

no manicure needed this is a full-on nail-biter

big fan of this series. big fan of Scott Brick. together this story comes across like a tsunami it has everything you could need to Escape real world issues. The Duel storyline, the over-the-top battle scenes, and the never ending love interest creates the world that is indistinguishable from reality. I hope this series never ends, my love for this character will not

Favourite of the series so far

I just think these books get better and better. It’s as though the author has relaxed into the series and is spending less time repeating the same information and needlessly filling pages and stretching the storyline. We now get an action packed story that has great characters, interesting dialogue and a combination of short and long term plots that keep me riveted.

Best in the series so far!

While this might be book 4 in the series, it's the best one so far! Non-stop action, head dizzying plot in parts. just not enough down time between action and story line flipping to guess what's coming next. While Orphan X might have a commandant about having only 1 mission at a time, there are 3 in this story, all spinning around simultaneously. You have the battle with the president (continuation from the previous book), a new Nowhere Man mission, and a side battle with another Orphan.

I really liked the pacing with this one. I also appreciated the side stories - like with Candy; Mia & Peter; and Naomi Templeton.

I look forward to what's next for Evan!

And great narration!

Exceptional

Greg Hurwitz and Scott Brick have done it again. Edge of the seat listen. A solid 4.5 stars for action, character development, and sub plots. My only criticism (without going into too much detail) is the suspension of belief required for the presidential scenario.

Well worth a credit. Just make sure you have another on hand, you won't be able to push the stop button.

BEST SERIES EVER!!!

I have never really listened to this type fiction. Scott Brick is the reason for many of my "outside the box" purchases on Audible. "The Passage" being another of those. If Scott Brick narrates it, I'll try it. Add that to the fact that I'm a huge fan of Gregg Hurwitz and it's MAGIC!
Evan Smoak is the most interesting and intriguing character I can remember. I really hope there is another amazing novel added to this series. If you've not already read the first two books before this, DO IT! You'll be glad you did.
