Publisher's Summary

"There was a boy once. A boy who wasn’t strong enough to save me when I was taken."

"There was a girl once. A girl called Tess Snow who sat with me in the dark, waiting to be sold. There was an owner once. An owner who bought me, entrapped me, and made me his unwilling goddess."

Eleanor Grace is a naïve dreamer. Trusting and young, she believes her travel-loving boyfriend can save her when her freedom is snatched and sold. Squirrelled away to an island at dawn, delivered to a man even darkness won’t touch, she’s bound by a contract.

Four men.

Four fantasies.

Four pieces of her soul.

Sullivan Sinclair is the giver of fantasies. Any wish, any desire - he is the master at quenching even the filthiest appetites. His private paradise and perfectly trained goddesses are there for one purpose: to ensure every guest is extremely well satisfied.

He bought her.

He trapped her.

She belongs to him.

CLIFFHANGER

omg I so hate when they don't tell you there are more books and this is a series. I prefer to wait till all books are out to listen.

Unsatisfying

Problems: The story ends in the middle... not so much a cliffhanger, but just in the middle of a sex scene. There are a lot of words either misused by the author or mispronounced by the narrators. Repetitive boring parts. Characters that are not compelling or interestingly.

Twisted, Intense and Dark

Well one thing I'll say is that this book inspired strong feelings in me. Unfortunately, not all of them were good ones. Overall I thought the story itself was captivating in that "Can't look away, even if you want to and darn well know you should" way. It is an intense, dark, twisted and often disturbing tale that seriously pushes boundaries. As for Eleanor and Sully, they are complex characters. I thought Eleanor was spunky and I felt for her and the situation she found herself in. Sully for me was where things got to the breaking point. There are great book boyfriends that simply leave you swooning and the bad boy anti-heroes you love-to-hate and hate-to-love that make your heart beat faster and tempt you to walk on the dark side but Sully is none of these. I can forgive plenty of sins when I read. Do you lie, cheat, steal, bully or stalk? I'm sure if you just open up to me I'll understand. Murder or kidnapping? I'm sure you had valid reasons and were totally justified in doing so. However, I don't think you will ever make me feel that human trafficking and sexual slavery is right in any way, shape or form. Sully is in my opinion the worst type of human being and if this author can find a way to redeem him, it will be an epic miracle. Also, just so you know this book ends on a huge cliffhanger. #Audiobook Obsession

4 stars

I will say that this book is a good start. Definitely one big build up. I almost wished there was more of a premise or prologue in the beginning because I feel like I'm missing 10% chunk of the story that it just sort of jumped right into the action. Fans of Tess will get a nice cameo. I liked that Pepper is connecting her other books. Of course Pepper sure knows how to leave a cliffy though. I'm really wondering how this entire series will play out and I look forward to them!

Sarah and Scott both did a great job narrating. Love the Duet narration. This is a first listen by Scott and he was great!

Deliciously Dark

Wow! Just...wow. This book gutted me. Just ripped out my soul, shredded it, and put it back together again over and over. These flawed, damaged, beautiful characters took me on a rollercoaster ride I didn't even know I needed. But dear lord that cliffhanger ending...whew! I'm still processing that.

As for the narration, it was well done. It's only the second this I've listened to a duet narration and I kind of wonder how I ever settle for anything else! These narrators bring the story and characters to life in the most beautiful way! What a great listen!

holy crap, how can something so dark be so freaking hot?!??! This book does an amazing job at really giving you a visual of "your surroundings", and I LOVED the duet narration. Now if only I could acquire some of that elixir to feed to my husband 🙈

Once a Myth

Boy oh boy will this book take you for a ride. So much happens in this book in a relatively short amount of time. You will find yourself begging for more when this is over with the cliffhanger we are left with. I will definitely be getting the next in this series.
Narration is fantastic! A perfect pairing with these two.

whoooaaaa, dark but good

I was not ready for this book. The intro did not properly prepare me at all. The first part of the book was hard to get through, its definitely dark. But then, holy crap! I was sucked in, and disturbed, and turned on, and other warring emotions. Maybe its just the first book of this type I've ever read, but throughout the whole thing I went from enjoying it to feeling like I shouldn't enjoy it (but still did). I really liked both narrators too, the dual narrative really helped the story in audio form. I think I might have enjoyed this story much less had I read it in hard copy.

The interdialog of the two main characters is so in depth and speaks on issues of morality that it adds another dimension to the story. The whole book takes place in the span of a week, to give an example of the level of detail provided. Even the world building if you can call it that since it's based in our modern world.

It's the first time I read this author and I while I enjoyed the story it is definitely not for everyone. The story starts out with human trafficking and then to the girl's new life. I'm still torn on alot of this, but the story is so far redeeming itself quite a bit. And that ending! Not fair. Thank God book 2 was already out so I could immediately get it and continue on. And even though this is a review for the first book, I already finished the second one too...and it keeps getting better.

A dark romance with an exotic twist!

Pepper Winters is back to her roots with “Once a Myth”, a dark romance full of everything we come to expect from this author. This book may not be for everyone, as Pepper pushes the boundaries on topics that might make you uncomfortable. She’s known for her intense, disturbing and twisted plots, and does not disappoint as this story unfolds and grips you along the way. Eleanor is a strong and independent character who finds herself in a helpless situation as she fights for her life and her freedom, never giving up hope. Sully is a complex character, with two sides… the one you want to hate for his involvement in how he acquires his goddesses, and the other you want to swoon over for his irresistible sexiness and god-like demeanor. However, Sully’s met his match with Eleanor, as she weakens his control and has him questioning his true desires. I enjoyed how cameos of past characters are cleverly weaved within, connecting to the rest of the PW’s universe. A fabulous start to this series, it ends with a cliffhanger that will surely have you jumping into the next installment! Sarah Puckett and Scott Rider’s performance on narration was AMAZING, and the duet storytelling was flawless! Casted perfectly, Sarah portrayed the strength, spunk and fearlessness of Eleanor, while Scott’s voice was exactly how I pictured Sully to sound, portraying the controlled, alpha hole that you’re just going to hate to love!

Wow. Definitely dark but very hot. This story will take you for a ride. If you don't mind a dark theme, you need to give this a listen.

I loved that both narrators spoke their characters' lines and not just when there was a POV change. I hadn't come across that before.

Left looking for more!

In the mood for a dark romance? Once a Myth is the book for you. Eleanor Grace is kidnapped, and sold to Sullivan Sinclair. Sinclair is the genius behind his sexual Fantasy Island. Buying women and keeping his clients happy is what he does. But there is something about Eleanor that is different. Will he be able to let someone else touch her? Pepper Winters is the master of dark romance. I don’t know where she gets her ideas, but no matter what, her antihero is one that I secretly fall for and can’t get enough of. I know I want to dislike Sinclair. After all, he objectifies women, and lets them keep his client pleasured for the right price. But there is something about the man that draws me to him. Is it his charisma? The seductive qualities he has? His money? I am not sure. Eleanor is a fantastic character. I love her tenacity, her never ending spirit and her inexplicable attraction to Sinclair. These two are enough to keep me engaged and ready to listen to the next book.

Sarah Puckett and Scott Rider narrate this series. This first installment wowed me. I love Puckett, but am used to hearing her in dramatic, angsty roles. When I saw her listed I was not sure about the casting, but boy did she show me her range of talent. Her versatility shines through and brings Eleanor to life with her own underlying darkness as we slowly find out her story. This is my first narration by Scott Rider and I was blown away. Perfectly cast, he has an element of class in his voice for Sinclair with that edgy evil undertone. I loved this team and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Wow, Sarah Puckett does it again!!

Sarah Puckett and Scott Ryder made a good team. This book...… I just don't know what to say. The book was written well, and the dialogue was highly engaging. The narration was excellent, the story as well. I have no words. This book was really good. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Hot Dark Romance!! 🔥🔥🔥

Oh my Pepper Winters. Just when I think she can’t come up with a more twisted story she does it again.

Heroine is on a European backpacking trip with her...meh, I guess you could say boyfriend although there don’t seem to be many feelings there. She’s captured by men and sold to the highest bidder. After traveling blindfolded she arrives at a beautiful island covered with gorgeous women that everyone refers to as Goddesses. The goddesses are there for one purpose—to fulfill the desires of the men that pay for them. Heroine is tied by contract to become one of these Goddesses... except our anti-hero and the man responsible for this whole island is having doubts if he can give her up to the men that visit his island.

I read this via audiobook and let me just say... Sarah Puckett freaking 👏🏼killed 👏🏼it. I was beyond excited when I saw this series was a collaboration of one of my favorite authors and my favorite narrators!!

Euphoria!

I am at lost of words. I just finished it and don't know what to say or do... that "ending" ...
Overall it was really really good, from beginning to end, I couldn't stop listening, it kept me enthralled by everything happening, and wondering what was going to happen.
Sullivan is a really complex character, a "mystery", to dark but yet to human at the same time. Eleanor is to feisty, outspoken, she won't back down or accept her new reality without a proper fight. The hate relationship between these two is so complex, he is enthralled by her, he wasn't expecting her, her attitude, they have many things in common and this throws him out of balance. While Eleanor hates him so much, but yet at the same time there's something there, she can't explain.

I really need the next book, because that last part left me like WTF had just happened!

As for the narration. One of the main reasons I grab this book was because Sarah Puckett was narrating it, yet this is her first duet narration and is the first time I listen to Scott Rider. But seriously it was amazing, so well done. They made a perfect narrating duet, both of them brought the characters to life, you could feel all their emotions in their voices, their infections delivering the story so perfectly. I truly LOVED their narration and cannot wait for more.

WOW!! What can I say except WHEW!!!!

I received this audiobook free, as an Audiobook Obsession Reviewer, for an honest review. This was a amazing book. Pepper Winters deliered AGAIN, as always. This is a dark story, not for the "faint of heart". All I can say is I want some of his elixir. Sex trafficing is scary, but if I was stolen, I would want Sullivan Sinclair to buy me. I know I have to wait for the next in the series, but it is going to be hard. The narrators were/are fabulous. Sexy Scott Rider does things to me and Sarah Puckett is here usual awesome self. I was listening to it last night to help me go to sleep, and there was no way I was going to fall asleep. My heart almost beat out of my chest.

This book is everything.

Sully is everything. I fell in love with Pepper Winter's writing in tears of Tess and finally we get to delve back into that world. This book is dark and dirty, sexy and unique and I loved every minute of it. The duet narration only added to the greatness of the entire package. Five big fat stars.
