Publisher's Summary

As a member of the New York Fire Department, single father Tim Davis is about as tough as they come. But underneath the muscles and tattoos, he still nurses a bruised heart handed to him courtesy of his first love. While on vacation with his son in New Orleans, Tim runs into the very woman that taught him about love before pulling it all away.

Holly Reynolds is rebuilding her life as an orthopedic doctor, far away from her home in New York City and her controlling father, the man responsible for tearing her and Tim apart. While she knows the hurt she caused Tim could never be forgiven, she can't help the overwhelming feelings she still has for her first and deepest love.

Truths are revealed as lies are exposed.

Two people come back together again to explore the fragile emotional bonds that still keep them tethered, even as their passion ignites hotter than any fire Tim has ever had to put out before.

Ummmmm

This book was…a flop. Her dad was a violent racist and now it’s just…fine? No no no no no

Not for me

Did not get past first chapter. There were too many undertones of racism for my taste. According to some of the other reviews it only gets worse. I did adore the rest of the series just not his book

Poor Narrator Choice

I’m upset that Tim (a black character) is being narrated by a white man. This was such a poor choice in narrators. This was a chance for higher inclusiveness and is was missed

First Love Rekindled

Sawyer Bennett just dropped another tasty little morsel on us -- Off Duty was off the charts hot and sexy, with a cute little kid to boot. Tim and Holly find out that sometimes you can go back. These two pick up the passion and the romance like they were never apart. This novella was pleasant listen showing how true love and heal old wounds.

Another good job by Charlotte North and Matthew Holland as narrators. They this a quick and easy listen.

Since this is a short novella, I would pay the reduced price and not use a credit. The reduced price would be money well spent.

Off Duty

I am a sucker for a second chance at love.

Tim and Holly were high school sweet hearts until they weren't.

Now a few years later they come back into each others worlds when Sam who is Tim's 5 yr old gets hurt and needs a trip to the ER where Dr. Holly is the one to make Sam all better.

Oh man they pick up right where they left off, yes there was still some hurt but they are honest with each other. So things start to heat up.
I thought it was all very fast but then again the past can make things feel like you have been waiting forever.

I liked it great little short to end the series.

Again love the narration I keep saying that but I truly did. Neither narrator made any of the character's sound the same and they really gave each story its own voice. Applauds. 👏👏

Truth is not always easy

I’m happy she told this story! I see many can’t face the racist undertones! But in the real world these things happen! The fact that I see it bothers many readers is because you understand it does but wish to ignore it! I was already a fan of this writer as a BLK woman, for her good writing. But the fact that she pushed the envelope speaking on a cause that harms so many regardless of “some” readers makes me respect her more on a deeper level!

Ummm, No! Just No!

Basically, I’m sorry for the shitty-racist way I treated you so all’s forgiven? Let’s have dinner some time. H is like sure, forgiven. What? Hell to the no!

After everything that happened, even though it was 10 years ago, I don’t believe Tim would just forgive and forget.

The only bad one in the series

I really love the narrators, but the last book in this series is almost as if the author just needed to publish something. no matter the quality.

Disappointing

Too short, too fast into a relationship, like super fast and redemption was weak and too unbelievable. Bennett has done better work than this. Also, Tim’s voice is described as deep. The narrator’s voice was so not deep.

Nice, but too short 😐

This was a well written, interesting story and well narrated.
However, it was just too short. It would have been brilliant as a full length book/listen, as the characters were really great.
All but one other book in this ‘Off’ series, was full length, and I don’t see why this was just a novella, when it could easily have been so much more, particularly as all the books follow a basic formula. Sadly, it just felt like a rushed churn out ☹️ otherwise it would have been great.

Enjoyable, quick and sexy

A second chance novella following Firefighter and single dad Tim Davis as fate brings him face to face with his childhood sweetheart orthopaedic doctor Holly Reynolds, when Tim's son Sam fractures his wrist. Tim is visiting his sister in New Orleans where Holly now works in the ER, this means that their reunion is short lived as Tim needs to return to New York. New York, a place that Holly left behind when her hero of a father let her down badly with his bigotry. Maybe now it's time to return home, building bridges with her parents isn't a priority, but things have changed a lot in 10 years for her parents, it would appear however that Holly and Tim's feeling for each other are stronger than ever. A quick, sexy read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
