Publisher's summary

Elohim is the most frequently used name for God in the Old Testament, occurring over 2,000 times. Elohim is derived from two Hebrew root words. First, El, which means "omnipotent". Additionally, it implies extended control or sustaining power. The ending of the name “Elohim”, him, is plural.

Genesis 1:26-27

"Then God said, 'Let us create man in our image, after our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over the entire earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.' Therefore, God created man in his own image, in the image of God; he created male and female."

Does God's use of plural pronouns imply that there are multiple Gods? No. The plural form of Elohim now reflects the Godhead, the Trinity. God is a trinity, or three persons in one. The fact that He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is not fully revealed until the New Testament. In the first chapter of Genesis, this name for God appears over 30 times. Elohim is responsible for speaking the universe into existence.

The name Elohim informs us...

God is always present.

Ever-present means that God has always existed. God is self-reliant. God has no needs and therefore is dependent on neither anything nor anyone. We depend on many things for our survival, including air, water, food, gravity, etc., whereas God is completely self-sufficient and requires none of these. He is a God who is powerful, creative, self-existent, and self-sufficient.

The name Elohim informs us...

God as the Creator of everything.

How does this God's name affect you and me? First, we must understand that God did not create us out of necessity. God doesn’t need you or me; we need him.

The book offers a fresh perspective on the nature of God. The notion that He is always present, ever-existent, and self-sufficient challenges our limited human understanding. It inspires us to approach life with gratitude and reverence for the Creator who crafted everything with purpose and intention.

Very directional and helpful book

The idea of God being ever-present and self-sufficient instills a sense of comfort and trust in His eternal nature. Recognizing God's role as the Creator helps us appreciate the world around us and acknowledge His sovereignty over all things. Life-changing

I loved this book! It unlocked so much about the depths of who God is. Beyond what you've heard before. And brings clarity to what God reveals about Himself through Scripture. I will absolutely add this to my list of regular reads.

Highly Recommend

John Mark has a way of writing that makes you feel as if you were sitting across from him at a coffee shop, having a conversation. He breaks down passages of the Bible, making it relatable to modern times and easy to digest for the reader. I highly recommend.
