Publisher's summary

A criminal who thinks he’s untouchable.

Debare Balogun is a conman who has been getting away with it for years, flying under the radar of the Nigerian authorities and creaming off a small fortune for himself in the process. Or at least that’s what he thought.

An offer he cannot refuse.

Now, British MI6 have enough evidence that will put him behind bars for a long time. And with the promise of the notorious Kirikiri prison awaiting him, he knows that he has no choice but to help them.

A daring mission in a country that will show him no mercy.

In the Russian capital, Moscow, the world's largest diamond heist has delivered a huge fortune into the bottomless pockets of the KGB, Federal Assembly, and the Russian Mafia. Debare’s job is to somehow infiltrate and expose it.

A woman more dangerous than any plot.

At the center of the mystery, Debare discovers a woman who is a self-made billionaire and head of a human trafficking operation. And despite the obvious dangers, he is drawn to her like a moth to the flame.

But what is her motive for seducing him? And will she dispose of him when he is of no further use?

Debare will need all his conman tricks if he is to survive long enough to work out who is pulling the strings in a conspiracy that goes much deeper than he ever thought.

interesting play of events.

A very interesting play of events. One minute it's doing okay, the next minute, another thing comes up. After 2 hours, the novel went to a close. It's all tangled up with a lot of twist and turn. Good one!

I like the accent of the narrator.

I like the accent of the narrator. It gets really into character. The story is good although a bit shorter than most novels I listen to, this book condensed all actions in just 13 chapters.

Interesting Story but Difficult to Follow

This is a hard story to review. What I could follow of it sounded interesting. Lots of action, and a complex plot but the narrator has an accent that I had a lot of difficulty understanding so I kept getting lost.
I suggest you give the sample a listen before committing. As for me, I think I'll see if there's a Kindle version so I can fill in the pieces that went right over my head.

I wish I could have understood

I really don’t know how to rate this. I was very interested in the story, so was excited to listen.
I couldn’t understand the narrator. He spoke with an accent to make the story sound authentic and keep it exciting, but I could only understand a few words. I tried to follow, but got lost and didn’t know what was going on.

Good Quick Read

The Nigerian was a good quick read by Eric Reese. The MI6 has set up Debare Balogun to spy on Russia. They now have enough evidence of his con man ways to have him put away for life. Now MI6 wants him to infiltrate the Russians and gather evidence on a diamond heist. This was a good quick read.

Too hard for me

The narrator’s accent adds authenticity and suits the book. But I found it hard to hear and harder to follow. The sentence structure was too unfamiliar and that didn’t help. In all, the implausibility of the plot wasn’t why I had to stop listening. This is just my preference personally though, augmented by a noisy commute. For those with better ears and attention spans, I expect this would be a fun and lively (although implausible) book.

Interesting

I downloaded this book knowing that the main character was Nigerian. I expected and got a Nigerian narration and it did not disappoint. (I had to slow the narration down at times so I wouldn't miss anything.)

The story itself is a mystery thriller with spies and blackmailing and international intrigue. It's an interesting story. The author put a lot into a little.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

was not my favorite

It was very hard for me to get into this book. Once I started to understand characters and plot the book was over. don't think I will listen to again.

Nice turnaround.

Nice turnaround. No spoilers here. I just loved the story. It has resemblance to other mystery and thriller books I have read but this one has its own uniqueness. All my praise to the narration and the development of the story.

way better listening to audiobook than reading it

This was given to me as a gift. Just long enough to keep my attention. The story is similar to the most recent thriller book I read but this one interest me with how the narrator makes the characters stand out. It is way better listening to audiobook than reading it myself.
