Publisher's Summary

A novel that grips from the very beginning and that will live long in the memory, The Last Thing I Remember is Deborah Bee's startling debut thriller.

Sarah is in a coma. Her memory is gone - she doesn't know how she got there. And she doesn't know how she might get out. But then she discovers that her injury wasn't an accident. And that the assailant hasn't been caught.

Unable to speak, see or move, Sarah must use every clue that she overhears to piece together her own past. And work out who it is that keeps coming into her room.

Are you like F*ing kidding me??

I understand that the author wanted us to know the character of a foul mouthed 14 year old girl, but the immature dialogue and nonstop f*words from the teenagers and almost every other character in the book ruined what could have potentially been an interesting story. There was also a lot of confusing build up to a very rushed ending. I am not at all impressed by this author or her very poorly written debut novel.

Surprised me!

Almost gave up on this book a few times but glad now that I stuck through it. Great ending and now I would like to listen to it again to pick up on some of the clues I missed.

Bad language

The language was ridiculous but it didn’t bother me that much, that kid was freaking hilarious! The story was pretty good. And I have to say the author gets major points for telling an original story!! A breath of fresh air! Different story with realistic characters, I loved it. I cuss sometimes myself, so bad language doesn’t bother me but I think it could have been toned down a lot. Still a good story though! Go Debbie 🐝

Excellent BUT

I almost returned this book because of the usage of the f-word SO OFTEN! but I can understand the use, coming from a messed up 14 yr old.
Something made me read on. Aside from that word being in abundance in my mind now, the story was excellent. Only 4 stars due to the word usage.

Absolutely brilliant - Yes there's bad language but please don't be put off by it!

I hadn't read anything by this author, in all honesty, I hadn't even heard of this author before I got this book. But... I'm SO happy I've read/listened it.
When I started this audiobook, I wasn't keen on the narrator for Kelly's voice - Kelly uses a lot of bad language (like, every other word, give or take) and I wasn't 100% convinced I'd enjoy this book despite the good reviews.
I can honestly - hand-on-heart - say I'm very upset the book has ended!
Yes there's bad language but I LOVE Kelly! I love her fight and spirit. I love her outlook and views. I absolutely love the narrator for Kelly (I actually loved both narrators). This is a simple book, there's a simple storyline but at the same time, there's so much going on. Everything is linked and tied up in the end. There wasn't a single point where this story 'dragged' or 'lost momentum'. Each chapter perfectly unravelled the story. I like how there are several themes running through this book; especially the whole 'being pretty/beautiful' and the need for the characters to blend in.
Yes there's bad language but please, please don't be put off by it!!! You won't regret it!

brilliant

despite a slightly more than average swear ratio, this book was great. I'm a hardened mystery reader and I genuinely didn't guess the ending!

Awesome

I listened to this audio book in one day, I could not put it down. Kelly is hilarious, despite the seriousness of the story. Brilliantly written and excellent narration. Very sad it had to end.

Shame about the bad language

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. Simply because I found the swearing excessive and think most of my friends would agree.

What did you like best about this story?

It's basically a good story, told from different viewpoints which I liked and it's not too long.

Would you be willing to try another one of Yolanda Kettle and Lucy Middleweek ’s performances?

Yes, I'm open to listening to both. They were both good readers, it was the the swearing I didn't like but that was how the book was written.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Doubtful

Any additional comments?

An overall good listen and I'm obviously in the minority when I say I did not like the Kelly character. Yes, I know she's typical of today's generation but the excessive swearing was way too much for me. (But, I am an old fuddy duddy of 70)

Slow to start but really worth it

Took me a couple of attempts to get into this book but it was really worth it and has a very good twist to the tale at the end

The characters are well portrayed and they really come alive and the voices to match them

I ended up really rooting for the main character

Very pleased I didn’t give up on it as I would have missed a good book

Ended suddenly and not sure what happened

I think they've pinned it on a school bully but story rushed the ending so I'm not at all sure. Good characterisation and interesting insights to coma issues but very thin plot and story. Felt cheated by the rushed ending completely and still not sure whodunnit or what was the point is most of the characters. Also Sarah's mother was very unbelievable. Was it her after all ? Left feeling very confused indeed.
