Publisher's Summary

The thrilling new novel featuring Jack West Jr., from the New York Times and number-one international best-selling author!

A ruthless kidnapping.

Jack West Jr. and his family are living happily on their remote farm when Jack is brutally kidnapped, and he awakens in an underground cell to find a masked attacker with a knife charging at him.

The great games.

Jack, it seems, has been chosen - along with a dozen other elite soldiers - to compete in a series of deadly challenges designed to fulfill an ancient ritual.

With the fate of the Earth at stake, he will have to traverse diabolical mazes, fight cruel assassins, and face unimaginable horrors that will test him like he has never been tested before.

To hell and back.

In the process he will discover the mysterious and powerful group of individuals behind it all: the four legendary kingdoms.

He might also discover that he is not the only hero in this place....

Jack West

Waited for this book long before it reached publication. Every Reilly book is a treat devoured too quickly. This one has it all. Mystery, exciting action scenes that are quite original, engaging characters that are familiar friends and some new ones as well. It truly is a race down to the last page.

Narrator Problems

I'm not a fan of the narrator, personally I feel that he doesn't enhance the story at all.

He is very slow and in my opinion seems to make the dialogue clunky and robotic

Consistently awesome

All I have to say is Jack & Scarecrow together. All the exciting twists & turns you've come to expect from Reilly. It will not disappoint.

I Wanted More

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The Four Legendary Kingdoms began, I think, a bit slow for a Matthew Reilly. And though I won't drop any spoilers I will say I was happy with the expanded cast of characters in this Jack West Jr. adventure. The first part of the book came too close to resembling his novel, The Contest. Things did pick up though.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Jack's group could use a wise-cracking curmudgeon for a bit of levity.

What aspect of Sean Mangan’s performance would you have changed?

Sean needs to pick up the pace a bit. And for me, his Jack West voice really doesn't seem strong enough.

Do you think The Four Legendary Kingdoms needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The book concludes by leaving the impression that another sequel is in order. I'm not sure this particular adventure needs to continue. I'd prefer Jack and his family of adventurers chart a new path in a more contemporary setting.

Any additional comments?

The parts of book I'd really like to talk about will have to wait as I don't want to create spoilers.

Good story but...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would in print or E-book form, not audio.

What other book might you compare The Four Legendary Kingdoms to and why?

The rest of the Jack West Jr series.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sean Mangan?

Someone who understands that most of the characters have accents. Jack West Jr, for instance, is an Australian and should sound like one.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Absolutely.

Any additional comments?

There was an odd wheeze or reverberation or something when the narrator would raise his voice. Pretty annoying.
