Publisher's Summary

It's the night of the full Cold Moon: the month of December according to the lunar calendar. A young man is found dead in lower Manhattan, the first in a series of victims of a man calling himself the Watchmaker. This killer's obsession with time drives him to plan the murders with the precision of fine timepieces, and the victims die prolonged deaths while an eerie clock ticks away their last minutes on earth.

Lincoln Rhyme, Amelia Sachs, and the rest of the crew are tapped to handle the case and stop the Watchmaker and his partner, Vincent Reynolds, a repulsive character with a special interest in the female victims of the killer.

Amelia is not only Lincoln's eyes and ears at crime scenes on the Watchmaker case, but she's now running her own homicide investigation, her first case as lead detective. The policewoman's unwavering efforts in pursuing the killers of a businessman, who left behind a wife and son, sets into motion clockwork gears of its own, with consequences reaching to people and events that will endanger not only many lives but Lincoln's and Amelia's future together.

Terrible abridging

Will never listen to an abridged version again. I was so confused. Got it to progress with the series which I am loving, and unabridged wasn't available. Really disappointed.

My first abridged book

I had never bought an abridged book before but as I couldn't find this book in an unabridged version and had read all the others, I bought it because I wanted the full series. But I wish I had just read the full book instead. The words are there because they are needed to tell the story. I found this very difficult to follow and didn't enjoy it at all. I adore the Lincoln Rhyme books but will never buy an abridged one again.

Terrible!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This had to be an unabridged version. So much happens in the story and has implications for the rest of the Lincoln Rhyme stories. Really disappointing.

What was most disappointing about Jeffery Deaver’s story?

I am sure the story is amazing, and I will be reading the book to see how the story unfolds. The problem was the abridged script.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I thought he was very good, although it did sound like he was rushing.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I've listened to all of the previous Lincoln Rhyme stories and found them to be brilliant. I was really looking forward to his one, however it has left me annoyed and disappointed.

Any additional comments?

I am very upset that I wasted a credit on the abridged version of The Cold Moon.

Not a good representation of a Lincoln Rhyme novel

I understand that this is an abridged version but it has been cut down so much that it makes listening to it a huge, confusing disappointment....the narrator raced through the book barely pausing for breath, even between chapters, which made the story incredibly difficult to follow. I have listened to the previous Lincoln Rhyme books in an unabridged format and thoroughly enjoyed them especially the way the characters analyse the evidence to stay one step ahead of the killer. However all of this detail was omitted from this audiobook along with the enjoyment and what you are left with is a bunch of people running around New York who just happen to be in the right place at the right time but for no apparent reason. It's a shame that there isn't an unabridged version - I will have to buy the book to read as I'm still not sure what happened during the three hours I spent listening!

worst abridging ever

so heavily abridged that the story is almost impossible to follow, this is a shame as it sounded like it had the potential to be really interesting.

Good but never get abridged JD!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Not being abridged! Im confident if the listen didnt feel over in 2 car journeys this story would get more

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Cold Moon?

The reader was really good at making the characters sound different

What does Kerry Shale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

great voice acting for the characters, the watchmakers voice was odd at first but as i listened more it sounded perfect for the clinical character deaver has created

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The story sounded great BUT the abridged version just had it end almost as soon as i started listening to it. Im sure i got all of the story but it i made ther mistake and didnt read the blurb when i dlded it.

Any additional comments?

This needs to be not abridged

Worth a read

Not listened to a lot of Deaver's books but i thoroughly enjoyed this. It's one of those books that twists and turns. I thought i had it sorted but it twisted again. In the end i thought it fitted together quite well. I would recommend this book.
