In the U.S. Marine Corps, the most dangerous job in combat is that of the sniper. Chief Petty Officer James "Patches" Watson was there at the start. One of the first to come out of the famed Underwater Demolition Team 21, he was an initial member—a "plank owner"—of America's deadliest and most elite fighting force, the U.S. Navy SEALs. Through three tours in the jungle hell of Vietnam, he walked the point—staying alert to trip wires, booby traps, and punji pits, guiding his squad of amphibious fighters on missions of rescue, reconnaissance, and demolition—confronting a war's unique terrors head-on, unprotected . . . and unafraid.

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

The President of the United States can’t decide how to respond to a classified video showing the Taliban’s brutal treatment of their captive - a female helicopter pilot of the Army’s elite Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Publisher's summary
From the author of Marine Sniper - the classic true account of Sergeant Carlos Hathcock - comes a gripping and gritty new novel about a sniper on the trail of al-Qaeda terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in post-9/11 Iraq.
At age 20, marine scout-sniper Jack Valentine had his first kill in Iraq, at the start of the Persian Gulf War. Now it's 2006, and he's back in Baghdad, obsessed with taking down al-Qaeda terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Jack missed his first shot at Zarqawi, and it's haunted him ever since - even though the attack struck fear into the black hearts of the jihadists and earned him the name the Ghost of Anbar.
Now leading his own Special Operations platoon, Jack is determined to hunt down and take out his target this time. But the jihadists are not his only enemies. The ruthless, amoral leader of a band of mercenaries is feeding al-Qaeda secret information - and pursuing the love of Jack's life, FBI agent Liberty Cruz. Jack may soon find himself in the crosshairs if he doesn't eliminate his rival first....
Critic reviews
"The dialogue - salty, irreverent, demeaning, profane - rings true of men at war." (Publishers Weekly)
"Powerful and compelling.... Delivers the goods." (The Real Book Spy)

Story
John Crawford joined the Florida National Guard to pay for his college tuition; it had seemed a small sacrifice to give up one weekend a month and two weeks a year in exchange for a free education. But one semester short of graduating, and newly married, he was called to active duty, to serve in Kuwait, then on the front lines of the invasion of Iraq, and ultimately in Baghdad. While serving in Iraq, Crawford began writing short nonfiction stories, his account of what he and his fellow soldiers experienced.

Religioscity are us
Mr. Henderson takes his superstitious beliefs seriously as he likes to pontificate various religious information and beliefs throughout, at least within the first two hours when I gave up listening. Some of it is actually interesting as a lifelong atheist I will readily admit to not being too knowledgeable on the Muslim sects. But if I wanted religious instruction, I would have used a credit for an academic audible book.

Profanity laced and too boring to finish
I hated to do this. This is the first book I could not finish. Story line is so choppy, way too drawn out and not needed and profanity is WAY too much. You could not get through 1 minute without a whole lot of profanity. I get it, it’s the military but still this is overkill. I’ve listened to a lot of military books both fiction and non fiction and never have I had to deal with that much profanity. It’s almost like the author went for a world record on how much profanity he could use.

Don’t waste time
This book is slow, hard to follow, story is weak and comes across as an ultra religious book but has so much inappropriate language it is a contradiction. Hated it, and would not recommend to anyone.
