Publisher's Summary

Ben Brice lives alone in the New Mexico wilderness, where he battles memories of Vietnam with oceans of Jim Beam. Miles away in Texas, his estranged son, John, an Internet geek turned billionaire, half watches his daughter Gracie’s soccer game while conducting business on his cell phone. When her mother, Elizabeth, arrives, the coach reports that her uncle has already collected Gracie. But Gracie has no uncle - she was kidnapped.

From international best-selling author Mark Gimenez comes a terrifying child-in-jeopardy thriller in which dark family secrets make the finding of 10-year-old Gracie Brice more uncertain with every passing minute. And so begins a furious race against time to save Gracie from unknown kidnappers. With the FBI camped out in the Brice mansion, the family offers a reward of $25 million.

Somehow, Ben and John Brice must find Gracie before it is too late. As the story unfolds with riveting twists and turns, the listener discovers that behind the kidnapping is an extraordinary government plot that could change the course of American history.

Entertaining Story, Disappointing Narration

I enjoyed the story and found myself looking for additional opportunities to listen. Would have been better if the characters were less clichéd. I also found the narration to be distracting, particularly in voicing multiple characters. For example, the CEO sounded too much like the 10-year old.

Too convoluted!

It got bogged down with so much that happened to Ben Bryce, the Vietnam War, and lots of detaile that were just background that seemed superfluous. The John Bryce character was so dull. I enjoyed Gracie the daughter. Elizabeth Bryce was such a bitch, and then the author had to involve us in some weird story of how she had had a terrible abduction happen to her. Trying to keep track of all the villains from the past and how they were related to the abduction of Gracie was a forever job. Then the author decided towards the end to throw in how believing in God, Chuch, and a reason for all people to be connected just was over the top. The narrator at times was as bored with it as I was. Speed up the audio. Waste of time.

Good story but .....

I enjoyed the story, lots of twists and turns. I did NOT enjoy hearing the F word about 200 times. It was not necessary to the story. This is the second book I have listened to from this author but I probably won’t purchase another one because of the language. So no I would not recommend it.

Characters you care about.

Great character development, even though they are a little cliched. You care about them, you like them, and you root for them. A nice twist slowly reveals itself. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and Mr. Schirner’s performance.

I gave it a chance...

Would you try another book from Mark Gimenez and/or Buck Schirner?

Nothing new here a tortured vet who comes to the rescue in an unbelievable plot to save the day.

Loved it!! !

I did not think I would like this book since it was about child abduction but I was pleasantly surprised. The plot was nothing like I thought it would be and that's a good thing. I loved the characters and how the author brought out their personalities so effectively. My new favorite badass characters are now Gracie and Ben Brice!! ! They are both hard core and I loved it. Overall the author was great and the narrator was pretty good too. I have already downloaded another book by the author. I think I am officially a hooked on this author.

Listened to it twice

I really enjoyed this. Like Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird, the little girl Grace was special. I found many the other characters fascinating as the story unfolds particularly her grandfather Ben, her mother Elizabeth and her father John.

Awesome Read

Enjoyed my first book by Mark Gimenez. Looking forward to his other books. This was a book filled with very interesting characters whom were fleshed out well and plots lines that kept you guessing as to what was around the next turn.
