Publisher's Summary

Amateur sleuth Mordecai Tremaine is back in another classic mystery from the author of Murder for Christmas.

When Mordecai Tremaine emerges from the train station, murder is the last thing on his mind. But then again, he has never been able to resist anything in the nature of a mystery - and a mystery is precisely what awaits him in the village of Dalmering.

Rehearsals for the local amateur dramatic production are in full swing - but as Mordecai discovers all too soon, the real tragedy is unfolding offstage. The star of the show has been found dead, and the spotlight is soon on Mordecai, whose reputation in the field of crime-solving precedes him.

With a murderer waiting in the wings, it's up to Mordecai to derail the killer's performance...before it's curtains for another victim.

Old fashioned Brit mystery is fun, but florid.

I was fascinated by this author , who is new to me. Narrator was marvelous.

If you like Miss Marple you'll enjoy this.

Beautifully narrated, relaxing listen, perfect for a Sunday afternoon despite the murderous subject matter. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A partial review... An unfair but honest opinion

I dearly want to "get into" this book, and author, but try as I do, I just cannot. I listen mainly in the car while driving, and there is something about this book that "doesn't click"...

I have listened to the first few chapters at least 3 times, and beyond there being a character called "Mordecai" I really cannot recall any detail.

I *think* it is the narrator and the pace - it may require more attention that I can give while driving. It may be the content, but I am not prepared to give up just yet.

It may be a mixture of: slow start to the story, slow pace to the narration, and, frankly, while very well enunciated, very boring tone of voice.

I don't want to be harsh on the narrator, but I think he either needs to read this as a book, with no attempt at distinguishing the parts though "voice", or do the complete opposite. As it is read at the moment is, to me, just monotonous.

Sorry - This may not help as a review, but if there is an option to listen to a sample before purchasing, I strongly suggest you do that!

Excellent listening

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A good well thought out story and plot which keeps the listener/reader guessing to the very end. Additionally I found the reader, Geoffrey Beevers, very easy to listen to..

What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder Has a Motive?

Once I started listening to the story, I found it difficult to stop until the very end..

Any additional comments?

For those who like a good old fashioned who-done-it, this book is ideal.

Thoroughly enjoyable

So good to listen to old fashioned story. Narration sent me off to sleep quite nicely. Kept me guessing till last chapter. Will listen to the other stories in the series.

Turgid

The narrator struggles. This book may be better on the printed page. Plot does not quite work

Loved it

I really enjoyed this book. I have also been listening to The Sherlock Holmes books and find them a bit hard going but this book is delightful!! Lots of suspects, twists and turns. I actually guessed the perpetrator quite early on but didn't have a clue why!! Very enjoyable

Keeps you guessing

I enjoyed the plot and the twists and turns of the plot. It was also a pleasant change to havr an amateur sleuth, a police man and a journalist cooperating.

An old fashioned mystery!

I purchased this as it sounded intriguing and seemed to be along the lines of an Agatha Christie mystery. It is a sort of discount Poirot!!

I listened in the car and have to say that the first few chapters didn't keep my attention as I often found my mind wondering. I also couldn't easily engage with any of the characters, and I only really got interested towards the end and the big reveal!

The narration by Geoffrey Beevers was ok and complimented the characters and era in which the story was set well.

If you like Agatha Christie and have exhausted all of her novels give this a go, as despite my initial reservations I will probably try some of the other Francis Duncan books.
