Publisher's summary

In broad desert daylight, a mysterious platoon of soldiers evacuates the entire population of Sunrise Valley, Nevada. Minutes later, a huge bomb detonates a hundred feet above the ground and lays waste to homes, cars, and playgrounds: a town annihilated in an instant.

Alex Cross is on vacation in San Francisco with his girlfriend, Jamilla Hughes, when he gets the call. The Russian supercriminal known as the Wolf claims responsibility for the blast.

Major cities around the globe are threatened with total destruction. The Wolf has proven he can do it; the only question is, can anyone stop him in time? Surveillance film of the blast reveals the presence of another of Alex Cross' most dangerous enemies, the ruthless assassin known as the Weasel.

World leaders have just four days to prevent an unimaginable cataclysm. Joining forces with Scotland Yard and Interpol, Alex fights his way through a torrent of false leads, impersonators, and foreign agents before he gets close to the heart of the crimes. Racing down the hairpin turns of the Riviera in the most unforgettable finale James Patterson has ever written, Alex Cross confronts the truth of the Wolf's identity, a revelation that even Cross himself may be unable to survive.

Another gem from Patterson

I really enjoy the way Patterson writes his stories this is another gripping tale.

I gave the performance only three stars because the side effects the audio interaction in between chapters and and in different parts of the stories just I don't know take away from the reading.

Annoying sound effects

The only good thing I can say about the sound effects is that the explosions added to the drama, but the rest was unnecessary, too loud, and very annoying. When it comes to sound effects in audiobooks, less is better for me.

As for narration, Fernandez and O'Hare did a great job. They certainly had a lot of different characters and accents to play with during a seemingly endless search for the Wolf, which stretches from coast to coast, and on to Europe. Plus, it involves nearly all the major law enforcement agencies of the U.S., Britain, and France; so take a deep breath and get ready for a ride.

After such a long buildup, I'd have liked a longer interaction between Cross and Schafer before the Weasel's storyline ended . And I didn't care for the way sometimes a critical bit of information would be discovered by a character but is not relayed or even hinted at for the reader until a later exposition. This is something I'm coming to expect in the Cross novels, though..

I had to smile after a while when the story moved to a new location. Yep, lots of accents for the narrators to play with. All in all, this was a fun read.

A Wonderful Series

I've read or listened to all of the "Alex Cross" books by James Patterson and have loved them all. After each book, I'm ready for the next. While each book is a story in itself, the life of Alex and his family evolves throughout the series, so I'm glad I started with the first book, Along Came A Spider. Alex Cross is unpretentious and modest, but he always has more insight into a murder case than anyone else on the local police force or in the FBI. And in the end, he always gets his man...or woman. This book is the last book so far in the Alex Cross series. It's just as exciting and satisfiying as the previous 9 books. You won't be disappointed.

good plot, over produced

I found the plot of this story very interesting, with some good twists that keep you engaged. The production is pretty annoying, with some kind of footsteps and strange voice introducing each chapter, followed by the chapter being enunciated clearly. Perhaps with another author this would be OK, but Patterson has more than a hundred chapters per book. In addition, there is a love seen between Alex Cross and his girl during which they insert sappy background music. Still, I recommend this as a fairly fast, engaging read.
