Publisher's summary

Cop turned lawyer and investigator Stone Barrington ventures out to the West Coast - and out on a limb - in this "stylish whodunit" (Detroit News) filled with romance and murder.

Stone's trip to Venice -with a fiery Mafia princess- is cut short by a frantic phone call from half a world away. A celebrity murder has Los Angeles in an uproar and has a former flame pining for Stone's help - in more ways than one....

Lack of continuity

I like this story enough to continue with the series but the author doesn’t worry with continuity. Details change about characters in subsequent books and it’s annoying.

Interesting listen

The story was good, if a bit far fetched.
Arrington is an uppity bitty who thinks mostly of her own needs and pleasure.

Absolutely love Charlene Joiner. nothing phony about her.

Stone is a sap, which is why I like him.

Very entertaining but characters deteriorating

Fast-paced and great energy. Stone is becoming naïve beyond belief and Arington has become a bonafide airhead. While there are many enjoyable twists and turns it looks like Mr. Woods is going to bleed the Stone:Arington relationship issues for another 8-10 books or more. I've only read his first nine in this series. Great mind and great books, but would like to see one actually have a beginning and have an ending. Meanwhile, I'll keep reading forward until I can't take it anymore.

One of the good Stone Barrington’s !!!

...love them all, but this one was one of my favorite’s. Tony Roberts can’t be beat of course. I’ve become so familiar with all of the major characters that I find myself laughing out loud at times and always look forward to the next book.
I’m one of those fans that happened upon this series toward the more recent books, became so enthralled tht I had to start back at the beginning and work my way forward.....Stuart Woods has my definite attention.....I’m a BIG FAN !!!!!!!

Good listen

This was a good book. Not OMG fantastic, but a good, easy listen. The main female character, Arrington, was quite annoying though. She’s overly female drama, to the point it felt distinctly manufactured by the author to create conflict in the story. I can’t understand why the main character, Stone, likes her so much. She ditched him for a rich, famous actor in a prior book, and then still expects Stone to jump whenever she wants something and be faithful to her. She also does quite a few stupid things. Her character took the story down a notch. But overall, it’s a typical Stone Barrington story and a good book to listen to. The narrator did a very good job, enhancing the listening experience.

Voices......way off!

I could tolerate the voice for Stone but the voice for his friend Dino is awful. It was so bad I returned the book. I got the book from the library and read it . I am listening to another in the series from the library the best I can say is it is free and I wince every time Dino says something!
