Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Stuart Woods delivers a riveting thriller that introduces an exciting addition to the pantheon of fictional sleuths.

Forced into early retirement at 37, smart, attractive, and fiercely independent Major Holly Barker trades in her bars as a military cop for the badge of deputy chief of police in Orchid Beach, Florida. But below the sunny surface of this sleepy, well-to-do island town lies an evil that escalates into the cold-blooded murder of one of Holly's new colleagues.

An outsider, Holly has little to go on for answers and no one to help her - except Daisy, a Doberman of exceptional intelligence and loyalty that becomes her companion and protector. The closer Holly gets to the truth, the more she knows that it'll take one smart dog with guts to sniff out this killer - before he can catch her first.

Enjoyable

A very good story and enjoyable listen.
The narrator could not have been better. What I need is someone with a pleasant voice to read the book. I'm not looking for an actor to portray each character; most of those of us who enjoy fiction have enough imagination to make the leap.

Good story, poorly narrarated

Very poorly narrarated by a woman attempting to portray a mans part. Seems to be a trend in Woods audiobooks.

Entertaining and Hard To Put Down!

I just finished listening to the audio version, on Audible. I Love law enforcement mysteries! This was my first Stuart Woods book, and I can't wait to read the next title in the Holly Barker series! Definitely a page turner for me. I actually enjoyed the absence of the usual graphic, and gory violence, which tend to be present in the crime series, that I normally read! I did find that the narrator, "Cassandra Campbell", took some getting used to for me. She is so soft spoken, that at first it annoyed me. I kept thinking she wood be better suited to reading children's titles.!!" Eventually, I grew comfortable with the narration!

Narrator so bad

The narrators voice for Holly was so breathy she sounded like a porn star not a police chief.

Did not enjoy narrator.

Narrator miscasted. Marilyn Monroe wannabe. Wasted a credit. Story line interesting but ruined by inappropriate sounding narrator.

I almost stopped listening

The book over was very good but if I encountered a Police Chief that talked like that I would think she was trying to seduce everyone she came in contact.

What is wrong with this narrator???

I don't understand how poor narrators cotinue to be used! Especially since the talented Debra Monk read the abridged version. Campbell makes Holly sound airy and cutesy. It's ridiculous. How could anyone take her seriously?! I want to know if these voice actors are receiving any direction and feedback as they read. If they aren't, START! If they are, get new directors.

Wonderful narrator!!

Cassandra Campbell is a dream when it comes to narration.
Woods’ stories are always action packed and full of sex…just so predictable.

Happy to see that it was about the plot of the story besides details of the sex

I read read Stone Barrington/Holly Barker Reckless Abandon out of order and I was really disgusted by that book for its details of their sex acts. Which Stuart Woods seems to like to do that with Stone Barrington‘s books. So glad he didn’t do it with this one. Storyline was good I enjoyed the book and it was so refreshing for him just to reference to them going to have sex besides having to go all out details and every time they did it had to be wild monkey sex.
