Pure Pulp! More Please!

This is the first Doc Savage pulp adventure that audible studios has tackled. This is done by the same team that worked on The Shadow novel Partners in Peril. The material is from 1938 and will strike some as dated, but as long as you know what you are getting with this, you are in for a treat. This is the unabridged pulp novel from the mind of Lester Dent recorded by a full cast and mixed with some sound effects and music. It comes across as a blend of audiobook and a kind of modernized old time radio show, Great fun! Recommended. Dear Audible studios, more please! Keep 'em coming!

PLEASE MAKE MORE

Loved listening to this. The only criticism I have is that the text was slightly abridged. The signal phrases were cut from the dialogue and sometimes it was hard for me to tell who was saying what.

Great pulp fun!

A marvelous performance of a classic Doc Savage pulp adventure, told by a talented troupe of players. I thought the actor portraying Monk Mayfair was especially effective, but everybody was good, and this was most definitely a fun read. I look forward to more in the series! (hint, hint)

An excellant Vintage Doc Savage Novel

What made the experience of listening to Fortress of Solitude the most enjoyable?

This was performed much like a radio play. With several cast members and sound effects, this added to the story enjoyment.

What did you like best about this story?

The choice of story. If there is a plan for dramatizing more of the Doc Savage novels, this was a good start. The introduction of the Fortress Of Solitude and the introduction of the villain, John Sunlight are legend in the pulp fandom.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Probably Doc himself, less for performance than for character. Although all performances were very enjoyable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes
