Publisher's summary

Abby Kimball has slowly accepted her recently discovered ability to see the dead, but none of the harmless sightings she's experienced could have prepared her for the startling apparition of a centuries-old courtroom scene - where she locks eyes with a wicked and gleeful accuser. Thrown back more than 300 years, Abby realizes she's been plunged into a mystery that has fascinated people throughout American history: the Salem witch trials.

With her boyfriend Ned at her side, Abby digs into the history of the events, researching the people and possible causes of that terrible time and her own connection to them-all the while going more deeply into her connection to Ned, both extraordinary and romantic.

As Abby witnesses more fragments from the events in Salem and struggles with the question of how such a nightmare could have come about, she's suddenly confronted with a pressing personal question: Were one or more of her ancestors among the accused? Unraveling the puzzling clues behind that question just might give Abby and Ned the answer to a very modern mystery of their own.

a story rich into historical information

i started this series with the books and audible as well. the narrator of the Defending the Dead was FANTASTIC. each books narrators bring the story to life. the author writes real people; characters that jump off the page. i am enjoying the series. i just had 1 wish -- that due to the ability to read each book as a stand alone story. it forces the author to repeat some facts that I knew from reading the series. it just takes up pages or paragraphs I wish I could skip, but it does explain things to people who are not reading the series in order.

Fantastic. A unique viewpoint.

I wasn’t sure what to think about this at first, but being a Salem enthusiast I had to give it a listen. I loved everything about this book. I really like the theory about Samuel Parris. It does make sense and is much different than other theories out there. I find it pretty plausible. I also loved the bit at the end. I don’t think I have ever heard of Salem End before. I looked it up and it’s very much a real place. I am visiting Salem next month and have added this place to my list of historical witch trial locations to visit. Thank you so much for a fascinating story.

paranormal with history

I liked the paranormal, with some of her family history. It was a great story and the sensitivity of the characters got me...

Really?

I’ve been trying to like this series but the characters are so exhausting. Abby is clueless and pathetic.

I'm done

I bought this book because I like this author and her other books. However, this is where I get off, with this series. I'm tired of Abbey's monologues and suppositions. I'm also tired of her trying to "solve" something that just is. Her actions are no longer realistic and I'm not going further with this series.
