Publisher's summary

Queen Victoria herself presents the head of England's top investigative force, Thomas Pitt, with his most high stakes case yet in the 32nd installment of the New York Times best-selling series by Anne Perry. When Thomas Pitt is summoned to Queen Victoria's private chambers, he hardly knows what to expect. When she tells him that the body of one of her closest confidants - Sir John Halberd - has been found in the Serpentine, he knows he is facing his most daunting and dangerous investigation yet. Sir John was a man who kept many secrets, moving within a circle of the most powerful and prominent members of London society. And the more Pitt learns about Sir John's past, the more he puts himself and his loved ones at risk. The royal family cannot be denied, but will the most important case of Pitt's career be his last?

murder on the serpentine

this was hands down my favorite one so far! it has the feel of the earlier Charlotte and Thomas investigations but with the polish of the newer ones. I am a lot g time reader of the Pitt and Monk books ever since my grandparents turned me onto to them. I'll just say the end has a special treat for all devoted readers!!!

Dissapointed

If you could sum up Murder on the Serpentine in three words, what would they be?

Good story, stretched.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, the plot was not that riviting. The character development was over extended.

What about Jenny Sterlin’s performance did you like?

She did both the men and women's voice, and for the most part they did not seem contrived.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Pit makes it in high society.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to all of Ann Perry's books and was really disappointed. The carry over of the characters from one title to another was not done nearly as well as in the past. Dialog was used to carry the story forward, but became tiresome. The ending, Pitt solving his personal dilemma, was the best part of the story.

I enjoy the Charlotte & Thomas Pitt Mysteries

This is good period mystery. Anne Perry provides a great deal of exposition to her novels regarding custom and class propriety in Victorian England, which I like it helps the reader to understand why characters behave the way they do. Sometimes as with this story the leaps in logic can be little tricky but overall the story is a good one.

Murder on the Serpentine

Would you consider the audio edition of Murder on the Serpentine to be better than the print version?

Although it was an excellent rendition, I can't give an answer to this question...I listen to audio books because my eyes become strained when I read.

What did you like best about this story?

I found the plot very interesting and it was also very well developed and articulated. It has been some years since I read a book by Anne Perry, and reading this book, I felt she has become a master story teller. Mystery and suspense is by far my favourite genre, and yet I found her approach was quite innovative.

Have you listened to any of Jenny Sterlin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my introduction to Jenny Sterlin, but I enjoyed listening to her so much that I look forward to listening to other books read by her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I pass on this one!

One of her best

Truly enjoyable and easy to listen to. Definitely, one of Perry’s best books in the series of Pitt and Charlotte.

Good story, disappointing narrator.

I quite enjoyed the story but not the narrator. I missed narrator Davina Porter's elegant and subtle voicing of the characters.
