The Secrets of Wishtide: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Mrs. Laetitia Rodd, aged 52, is the widow of an archdeacon who makes her living as a highly discreet private investigator. Her brother, Frederick Tyson, is a criminal barrister living in nearby Highgate with his wife and 10 children. Frederick finds the cases, and Laetitia solves them using her arch intelligence and her immaculate cover as an unsuspecting widow.

When a case arises involving the son of the highly connected Sir James Calderstone, Laetitia sets off for Lincolnshire undercover as the family's new governess - quickly making herself indispensable. But the seemingly simple case - looking into young Charles Calderstone's inappropriate love interest - soon takes an unpleasant turn. And as the family's secrets begin to unfold, Laetitia discovers the Calderstones have more to hide than most.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Background music annoying

Good narration but the background music is very annoying and distracting. Story takes some turns which seem a little bit of a stretch at times. Just when you think the story is over you realize you still have hours to go.

Background music a complete failure

I like the idea of the background music - but imagine watching a movie and the background music never stops. It became annoying and difficult to focus on the story because the music was often out of sync with what was happening. They had so many missed opportunities to compliment the book ie..sound of birds while in the garden, heavy boot steps or wagon wheels, the shutting of a book or rustling of paper, but instead played music that was out of character for the time period and it distracted rather than added to the enjoyment of the book.

Not a fan of the soundtrack

My first audiobook with a music soundtrack. It’s awful. Hopefully more of the Laetitia Todd’s will be on audiobook in the future though.

Slow, and Background Soundtrack Terrible!

Although the narration by Anna Bentinck was excellent for her range and variation of the voices, it was too slow! Long pauses between characters' sentences and responses had me constantly saying, Com'on, hurry up!" This narration could have been shortened by at least and hour and a half, I'm sure, if read at a better pace. Even more annoying was the constant background music and soundtrack. I hated it, and found it trivial and distracting. The amazing thing is that I stuck it out to the very end. I doubt I'll ever listen to another Laetitia Rodd mystery.

Better without musical background

Great story, wonderful narrator and that’s the only reason I kept listening even though the music was annoying and distracting. The music added tones to parts that I would not have given those sections and mislead me to think other things were going on. Like ominous music in an interrogation that ended up only giving mundane information.

I hope other books in the series will be available with the same narrator and NO MUSIC.

Good tale, unsure about all the music

I became used to the music throughout the storytelling but at first it was distracting. Enjoyed
The story and the characters. Saunders tells a good tale and Bentick narrates Mrs. Rodd just right.

Remove the music!!!!

The story is very interesting and well written, but the music took all the pleasure away from the listening. I also did not really like the very slow pace of the reader, even though she did a remarkable job at all of the different voices. This should have been a 5 star review for the book and the story.

music background is horrible

I found the musical background (mostly a cello being sawed) to be overpowering, boring at best, but most often distracting and irritating. I abandoned the book after chapter one and bought the regular edition. what a waste! I will be sure to listen to the sample from now on!
