Publisher's summary

Adriella always wanted children. Now, she finally has her wish. Overcome with joy, she cannot wait to tell her husband about her pregnancy...until she hears a new prophecy proclaiming that a child will soon be born - one who will destroy the high king.

When a royal decree demands the death of all young children, along with any born over the next two years, Adriella's life comes unraveled. Instead of the excitement of a new baby, she feels nothing but trepidation at telling her soldier husband. She decides to flee before he can turn her in.

With the high king and his men searching for anyone who defies his edict, she knows there isn't much of a chance she'll survive. But in a country full of newly grieving parents, on streets red with the blood of innocents, Adriella will do whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the law. If she doesn't, she'll lose the one thing even more precious to her than her own life: her child.

Cliffhanger

I like the idea of the story and it had good plot twists but I cannot forgive the cliffhanger. I got this book through storyorigins and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Great Book

This book was awesome the details was so great and the things the main character went through was just crazy. When that lady told her she would be betrayed I started playing detective trying to figure out who. Can't wait to read the next book.

Great Listen

I loved this audiobook! The story was very compelling and the narrator did a very good job. I find it hard to believe that someone chooses your spouse and you have no choice in the matter. The same with your job they choose for you and that is the end of it. Now you have a crazy person who heard a prophesy about a child who could kill him, so he kills all babies and children of a certain age and their mothers. The main character did what she felt was necessary to save herself and her baby, including leaving her husband. That is as far as I will go with that you really must either listen to or read this book it was awesome. The ending will throw you for a loop!

I received a copy of this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin for an honest review.

Holy Molly, it Leaves off on Cliffhanger!

Great concept for a story. A Moses like story with a crazy King, a prophecy, and an order to kill all infants and toddlers but with a fantasy and magic twist. Instead of sending her baby down river in a basket, she decides to go on the run with a friend and leave her soldier husband behind. There's a lot of old traditions forced through a tyrannical King/government that has complete control over your life, marriage, job and when you retire/die. There's a lot of walking and mental back and forth that the main character goes through and stage setting as this is the first in the series -- it does pick up with lots of twists, turns, and gets harder to put down. My biggest issue is that the book leaves off on the worst possible spot, making for a terrible cliffhanger and me now forced to wait for book two to come out. It's a clean read but I would still place it as a middle grade and up read.

The narrator overall did a great job but at times her voice got a bit too choppy (although that may have been an accent too but I also noticed it a bit in the narrative parts as well).

What a stunning story!

So filled with adventures and diversity, I had no choice but to admire the lead character...nothing like a strong female character to make a story great, in my opinion...yet I must admit the story ended with me being in tears and wishing I had a story that followed this one.

I love it!

Great dystopian story with a bit of a twist. Great narration and complexity of voices. The only thing I didn't like was the cliff hanger. So now I can't wait for book 2 and going back into this exciting world with well developed characters and fantasy story line!

Mother of the chosen

What the heck? them last 3 chapters, okay I'm glad I kept listening, to be honest I was getting to the point where I didn't want to go on because the main character was getting on my nerves lol. But I'm glad I didn't stop. because it got really good. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Mother of the Chosen

The world is interesting, with a prophesy that a chosen child will overthrow the king. So, he does want any totally rational leader does: kill/kidnap all young children and pregnant women to prevent the prophesy from coming true.
Adriella and husband having been trying to get pregnant for years, and when the good news happens...well, the king made his decree. She makes the decision to flee and that's where the story goes. Her trying to survive to have her baby. Along the way, it was interesting getting to know the cast of characters and their motivations. I liked the twist at the end, that was quite nice. Although, that twist was unfortunate for the characters.
Adriella was a pleasantly naive character. Her naïveté wasn't forced and came pretty naturally. She was always the good wife to her chosen husband, and a weaver (her job chosen already for her), and never really thought about second guessing the king. Until his rather violent decree.
I liked the story, though the plot did some meandering and I didn't quite know why things happened because they did detract from the story.

It's pretty clean story, with light romance (just kissing), no/minimal swearing, and some minor violence.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, but the rest of the books are already published!

The narrator did a fine job. I've heard others that I liked more than her, but she did a good job with all the different characters. Some of the pronunciations did seem a little off to me, but there were some unique names in the story, so that might be why it was like that for me.

chosen

the main character is excited to find she is pregnant and learns the high king has ordered that all pregnant women and any child within two year of age to be "gathered" due to a prophecy of his downfall. She goes on the run to save her baby. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Good enough Story

The story was entertaining to while away the day while stuck at home. The main Character is a young woman who is pregnant and in a 4 yr marriage with a man the higher ups pick for her. Not a bad marriage but 4 yrs later they really don't know any deep things about each other. There is a Lot of walking going on in this story.
