Publisher's Summary

At the height of World War II, three women must come together to fight for freedom, for the men they love - and for each other.

When Hazel is given the chance to parachute into Nazi-occupied France, she seizes the opportunity to do more for the British war effort than file paperwork. Alongside her childhood friend, French-born Rose, she quickly rises up the ranks of the freedom fighters. For Rose, the Resistance is a link to her late husband, and a way to move forward without him. What starts out as helping downed airmen becomes a bigger cause when they meet Sophia, a German escapee and fierce critic of Hitler who is wanted by the Gestapo. Together the three women form a bond that will last a lifetime.

But amid the turmoil and tragedy of warfare, all three risk losing everything - and everyone - they hold dear. Will their united front be strong enough to see them through?

Grabbed my attention and held it

I love historical fiction, and this story held me in its grip all the way through. I needed an audiobook to get me through several days of driving, and I couldnt wait to get to get back behind the wheel to hear more. The tale that she weaves together of her heroines pays great homage to the real women of the Resistance. Beautifully written and narrated. Very satisfying.

5 Star One Click Must

I have always felt a pull to WW II; the era has always interested me. In Hearts of Resistance, that pull was very strong.

From the prologue to the very end, I was drawn into the lives of Sophia, Hazel and Rose. These three women exemplified what it meant to be a survivor during a time of war and hatred. All of them were of such strong character; I know that the story is considered fiction; however, the attention to detail and to history of the time was spot on.

Ms. Lane has written another heart wrenching, heart warming story that brings to life three women who must endure and survive.

Hearts of Resistance

Just finished the most wonderful story so beautifully narrated. The lives and sacrifices of 3 women during WW11 ,a time when bravery of woman equaled that of a man was told with true reality. I would highly recommend reading this powerful yet tender story of the love woman had for their country and their fellow men

There are many things about this book to love

But there are many things to dislike.. most of them to do with the editing. I hope the author writes again but I strongly suggest a different editor and that that editor listens to the book as opposed to reading it.

Good, but

I loved the narrator!! I also really liked the story for the most part. I would give it a 7 out of 10, 10 being best story I have ever heard. I loved the content but it didn’t really hold my interest until the last few chapters of the book. Also it was hard for me to keep the 3 women straight!

Bit dull

Too focused on love stories than any actual action; obviously it’s there for a specific audience. If you are interested in more historically accurate and detailed accounts of resistance, try the Nancy Wake biography

Slow & Steady wins the war

A great concept about one of the most exciting aspects of WW2 - had the potential to be exhilarating but fell short for me. Plenty of repetition & laboured points - though the narrator was excellent so it was palatable.
